Just looking at the schedule for the Euros.
If England were to win their group they would face the runners up in (f) the group of death, so your looking at either France, Germany or Portugal. Not a great deal of incentive to win the group then. If we finish 2nd in the group it would likely be Spain, Poland or Sweden, so slightly more appealing there I would say.
Finishing 3rd in the group, it’s anybody’s guess who we would be facing but it would be the winners of any of 3 different groups. It could well be Belgium, Holland or Spain.
Finishing 2nd therefore looks the best option, but in all cases the last 16 match looks like it could be a tough one.
Ah well in Gareth we trust hey, 🤥ðŸ™.

Mark, I looked at the possibilities and you are right, however to win the tournament you will inevitably play the big boys, my view is take them out early, as teams get stronger as the tournament progresses, just my view but have a fear no-one at any stage mentality would be my approach.

With Southgate as coach? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 he' plays 2 defensive midfielders against minnows, against tougher opposition he'll play a very strict 9-0-1 formation, not optimistic with Mr Negative in charge. We've got the players, he just needs to play them but we'll get the same old faces.

BK, I am of Irish extraction too so after the euphoria of the Jack Charlton years I have tempered my expectations to such an extent that I now follow Ireland with the oval ball rather than the round one😃. They might have been able to do better had Grealish and Rice opted for the Republic rather than England, but let’s be honest if you want to test yourself against the best you aren’t going to pick Ireland are you? 😩.

Sadly not John, I think Ireland have some promising youngsters coming through but when you look at the absolute depth of talent at Englands disposal it was a no brainer do Jack and Rice. They deserve the biggest of stages and Ireland could never offer that.
