So, after having a bid of 15 million turned down for Callum Wilson, it would appear that Bournemouth would accept a fixed price of 17 million.
This is actually better than I thought it would be and so I think we should cough up the extra 2 million.

1.) 04 Sep 2020 13:20:30
Don't get it unless Bournemouth themselves don't think he is capable of achieving add on criteria.

Wouldn't mind this (for PL experience) as long as Watkins was signed too but you have to consider wages as well as transfer fee.

2.) 04 Sep 2020 13:28:48
Mark if push comes to shove I agree let’s cough up the extra £2 million, however given they are supposedly interested in Hogan I might be tempted to try £12 million plus him and see what they say. After that I think we need to increase our offers for the Brentford two and get those deals done as well.

3.) 04 Sep 2020 13:56:24
I agree John. would they be interested in any of our surplus goalkeepers too? Need to move Kalinic on, and possibly Nyland too. And they’ve just lost Ramsdale.

I think Wilson at £17m would be a good signing in any case, but as others have said. got to get the two in from Brentford as well. Watkins versatility would be a huge asset, and Benrahma is the winger we’re missing. a huge step up from Trezeguet and Anwar.

Cash, Romero, Benrahma, Watkins, Wilson. that’s be an excellent window and I think the only other position we need then is an 8. A genuine box-to-box CM. I’m still hoping for Grujic.

4.) 04 Sep 2020 14:14:24
What about another LB.

5.) 04 Sep 2020 14:37:21
I think Deano wants another centre back however personally I like you you think left back is our weaker position but I guess if we get Wilson Benrahma and Watkins and Romero there won’t be much left for anyone else.

Milot Rashica has reportedly told Werder Bremen to accept the bid from Aston Villa.

1.) 22 Aug 2020 15:46:58
Mark, where did you get that snippet from?

2.) 22 Aug 2020 15:57:06
AVFC transfer news and Rumours “ top stories”, go into the latest on Billing and you’ll see it was apparently reported by Kosovan sources about an hour ago.

3.) 22 Aug 2020 16:14:12
Thanks hopefully it’s tight but I’ll not get to excited until it happens.

{Ed002's Note - The problem is that his preferred destination will not pay the 25M asking price - he is certainly not in a position to tell his club to "accept the Aston Villa offer".}

4.) 22 Aug 2020 16:26:49
It could all be a ploy to get Leipzig to make a move.

{Ed002's Note - Smokescreens and ploys don't happen I am afraid (unless you are a Liverpool supporter - and then everything is a conspiracy as well).

5.) 22 Aug 2020 16:34:19
Lol, I take it you’re not a Liverpool supporter Ed.
Regarding Rashica, do you think we’ve got any chance of getting him?

{Ed002's Note - I think it will be very difficult - Rashica wants the RB Leipzig move but the clubs remain €5M apart. He wants to be playing in the Champions League which will not help the cause.}

6.) 22 Aug 2020 17:06:45
Thanks Ed, it was reported a short while ago that Rashica’s stance hasn’t changed. So sadly I think you’re right, and I think Villa need to channel their energies into finding a realistic alternative, this saga has gone on long enough.

7.) 22 Aug 2020 18:08:15
Mark I absolutely agree we should have moved on a long long time ago when he first said he wasn’t interested hopefully Leipzig won’t budge on the fee and he’s left high and dry with Werder Bremen wishful thinking I know but there you go.

8.) 22 Aug 2020 18:59:28
Unfortunately another click baiting story by the looks of things. However the interesting thing about this is, I haven’t seen anything about it on sky sports or any of the rated sports channels. the Birmingham Mail seem to be single handily Driving the propaganda campaign on this one lol. I would focus our efforts on other players, if the offers on the table, let WB decide. In other news we have also been linked with billing any truth in this?

9.) 22 Aug 2020 19:23:56
Billing is a very good DM imo but after Luiz's massive improvement I can't see it being worthwhile.

10.) 23 Aug 2020 09:22:31
As a rule of thumb, I wouldn’t trust 99% of things that are on AVFC Transfer News and Rumours.

10 Aug 2020 21:35:22
James Chester signed for Stoke City today on a permanent deal.
He was a great Villa servant who always gave his all, and led by example.
He was a really nice guy with it too and had a great sense of humour, rare virtues indeed.
Best of luck Chessie 👍.

1.) 10 Aug 2020 21:44:16
My apologies that should have been Chezzy 😁.

2.) 11 Aug 2020 09:03:07
Rolls Royce of a centre half in the championship. Proper professional, damaged his health and future career to play for us, couldn’t ask for more. Hope he goes on to achieve with Stoke, he deserves it.

10 Aug 2020 19:06:08
Now that the Sancho deal looks dead, is there a possibility that Man U will come back in for Grealish? They are completely different in terms of style of play and play in different positions though, so I would doubt it.
What are your thoughts on this Ed’s?

{Ed002's Note - Grealish is unrelated to Sancho.}

1.) 10 Aug 2020 20:24:07
Well you never know Ed, they could be distant cousins 😁.

29 Jul 2020 14:32:23
What’s the verdict on Eberechi Eze from QPR? Apparently he’s attracting a lot of interest, including from us. I can’t say I’ve seen a lot of him to be honest but he is being touted as a possible replacement for Grealish apparently. It would appear he’s provided a lot of assists and has scored his fair share of goals too. It’s said that he can be effective as an attacking midfielder and can also play out on the left, so similar to Grealish in that respect.
It’s reported that QPR will want around 20 million. He is still young at 22, so could be an interesting one.

1.) 29 Jul 2020 14:54:05
Mark, I watch quite a bit of championship football and from what I have seen he seems decent, a technical type very rangy and has a languid running style I don’t think he is that pacy he certainly doesn’t seem to run at players the way that Jack does but he is a creative type and see’s a pass I certainly think he is worth consideration if Benrahma doesn’t happen but the big question is as with all Championship players can they make the step up When I thought we were destined to be relegated and that Jack was going and Benrahma wasn’t likely to happen I did identify Eze as one we ought to consider looking at.

2.) 29 Jul 2020 15:09:19
Yes Mark, he is a half decent player mate, and stays on his feet more than grealish does.
He is strong and direct, and in my opinion thinks a bit quicker, and gets things moving.
He scored against us at VP in a 2-2 draw.
West Ham are showing a big interest, so moving down the road might be his better option.

3.) 29 Jul 2020 15:57:04
Decent looking player, not a winger but more of a wide attacking midfield player (so not sprinting down the wing, more of a technical player) . Jack wants to play number 8, so if he stays Eze could be the one who actually plays wider, or someone of his ilk. I think that's the type of player we need to bring in to keep Jack, a winger/ attacking mid to allow Jack to play centrally.

4.) 29 Jul 2020 18:28:55
Thanks for the feedback guys, I think what is interesting is that you all seem to think he’s technically up there, which as we we’ll know is important in the Premier league and something we lacked a bit. He is young and still has his best years to come, definitely a possibility I think.
I’m looking forward to tonight’s playoff at Brentford to take a look at Benrahma in particular. If Brentford fail tonight, I would think a few phone calls to the Brentford hierarchy might be in order. 👍.

5.) 29 Jul 2020 21:55:35
Boys and girls, if any of you think Eve would choose us over a club in London then your dreaming, only if they supported us or had a family connection, or as usual if we pay big wages will a play like Eve or Benerama come to us, maybe if we had European football that would help too, but in a straight choice, any player in London will want to stay in London, sad but true.

I’m surprised that Jack has got shin splints, because they’re usually associated with running on hard surfaces such as pavements and roads, not on turf. I remember suffering with them in my younger days when training for half and full marathons. They aren’t pleasant and don’t go away in a hurry. 🥺.

{Ed001's Note - I suffer with them as well, but it can simply be down to a changed gait. Mine was caused by knee problems meaning I couldn't walk normally. Grealish maybe has a similar thing but the new pitches are so hard that it could simply be down to the pitch.}

1.) 23 Feb 2021 18:12:40
Thanks for that Ed, do you know of any other players who suffer with the same problem?

{Ed001's Note - Forest's Joe Lolley does off the top of my head. It was shin splints that forced Rob Jones to retire in the past.}

2.) 23 Feb 2021 18:37:18
That is a bit of a worry, Lolley was a really good player a few seasons ago, but really does seem to have gone off the boil now, for quite some time. Thanks again Ed.

{Ed001's Note - it was the shin splints that caused it. He can't play without pain.}

13 Feb 2021 14:34:18
Apparently Alisson Becker is taking his shower with the Leicester lads, after his latest
error. No doubt then, he’ll drop the soap and when he picks it up, he’ll pass it to Vardy 😂.

10 Feb 2021 07:38:58
What’s happened to the England team thread?

{Ed033's Note - It looks like a database reset took place by the hosting company, which removed those posts

1.) 10 Feb 2021 10:04:49
Ok thanks Ed, another one of life’s mysteries then mate. 🤷🏼.

31 Jan 2021 13:17:45
Following on from Dave’s post on Friday, Moose and myself were given the task of putting together a Villa ( banter site) veterans X1.
So, we reckon this side would give those Leeds banter boys ( or should we say, Billy Bremner wannabes) a right pasting😁
We’ve gone for an attacking 3-5-2
GK. Allyp

Def. Markdav. Def. ToV Def. Moose

DM. Charlie665

LM. Whacky. RM. Smithy76

AM. VillaDave. AM. Pricey

S. SouthernVillan
S. Villa4eva

We gave consideration to subs and soon came to the conclusion that we’ll need a lot of them 😁. So we would ask the following to do the honours and I don’t think you’ll be waiting long to get on the pitch, as I can hear those creaking joints alrea🥴
Villa Daz, VillaJohn, DBS1983, Bucktoothwonder, Classof82, BK1982, NaturalVillan, JohnnyDixon, UTVBOYS, AkaVilla. ( If we’ve missed anybody, you’re more than welcome to join👍) .

Every team needs a manager, so we decided to go for Chris and Rk as his assistant.
We thought we might need 2 Physios 😁 and we ask Scotty and DaveDean to do the honours ( you might be busy guys ) 😂
Walkies, you’re in charge of public relations mate, and if you could supply the fish&chips mate, it would be appreciated.
For Match days we thought it would be only fitting if Ed001 could be the ref with Ed002 and Ed007 as his assistants. Our conspiracy expert Ed033, should take charge of VAR ( we’ll have a whip round and slip you a tenner mate 😉) .
Oh, I almost forgot it was unanimously decided that TOV should be team captain, a no nonsense, merciless Centre Half, who will lead by example.

{Ed001's Note - does VAR work with tin foil hats?!?}

1.) 31 Jan 2021 13:49:46
The whole effort has been a credit to all of us, Eds included.
Great bit of fun, and could do with a bit more of this between games.
Thank you all for having a go and making it so interesting.
Special thanks thanks to Mark and Moose for their help. 👍👍.

2.) 31 Jan 2021 13:58:51
Love it guys😎 my pins and screws might interfere with the signal I’m thinking, and does it count if your artificial hip is in an offside position? Asking for a friend 😂😂 I’m wondering if I’m the kid on the team at 39yrs lol.

{Ed007's Note - I had an accident at work 20 years ago when a pile of steel beams fell on me breaking my leg in a few places and basically shattering my ankle. I had pins and screws in my all over my leg, ankle and foot for about 10 years and was fine (back at work, playing football and golf etc) until the metalwork became infected and had to be removed.
Now I need crutches to get about - after a further 9 operations trying to fix it - I can't get a shoe on my foot and have seriously chronic pain in my leg, ankle and foot from the ops, and in back and hip from putting my weight on my right leg all the time. I'll more than likely end up in a wheelchair as time goes on.
That should cheer you up on a dreary Sunday afternoon, Whack 😁

3.) 31 Jan 2021 14:05:39
I used to be a keeper many years ago in the John Burridge mould ie mad these days if I went down for a save in the first minute it would be half time before I’d got up 🤣🤣 I’m not even sure I can make the bench.

4.) 31 Jan 2021 14:17:33
I did see the post lads and wrote half a reply but something came up and never hit submit! But I’ll take the managers role no problem, maybe go for a cross between Clough and Ferguson😂 well done all who put this together, good to stay positive and have a laugh no matter how silly in times like this!

Sorry to hear about your accident Ed, sounds like you’ve had a rough time of it!

{Ed007's Note - Cheers mate. It's been so long I just try to get on with it best I can and my wife's a total angel when it comes to helping me & looking after me - but don't tell her I said that ffs! 😁

5.) 31 Jan 2021 14:38:20
Damn Ed that’s a tough 1 I’m sorry to hear that, thankfully u have an angel taking care of you and I hope you stay upright for quiet some time yet👊 Mine wasn’t as bad I had a wheel of a 30 tonne loader fall on me, damaged my knee but my ankle took the brunt I got a pin and some screws in it, had to stop playing sport for 4 years but keeping at the physio eventually got me back for a few years which I thoroughly enjoyed, thankfully my injuries haven’t come back to haunt me as yet, a bit of arthritis is probably to be expected at some point but when u hear other ppls horrors it makes u thankful.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

6.) 31 Jan 2021 14:59:42
Fantastic lads when’s the first game?

7.) 31 Jan 2021 15:07:22
Maybe the Leeds boys can pick a team and we can have a running commentary on here I’m sure there would be lots of good comments coming in😂😂.

8.) 31 Jan 2021 15:26:04
It would be good, and with wolves lot aswell. And fair play, dave, moose, wacky, and others been some good reading, and debates on here, eds do good job aswell, plus every1 knows we're the hardest fans too please 🤣🤣🤣.

9.) 31 Jan 2021 17:23:35
Don’t think wolves fans would get it tbh

Position. currently unemployed

Who in past would your position resemble. Dad, cousin or brother take your pick

Best attribute. never been in jail, once worked 16 hours in a week . rubbish hot at hot wiring

😂😂😂😂.

10.) 31 Jan 2021 21:32:43
Dave this has been a great bit of fun. I've finally been picked for the villa. All we need now is the club to read this and let us have vp for a day to play the match. Oh come on I've been picked for villa, may as well make the most of it lol.

11.) 01 Feb 2021 07:44:20
Haha love it! 😆 looking forward to putting those Leeds boys in there places! 👊🏻💪🏻
31 here whack so does that make me the “kid” of the team 🤓.

12.) 01 Feb 2021 11:07:15
Can I suggest that Kingvilla could be chief scout? He seems to have so many connections and is very much in the know :-)

13.) 01 Feb 2021 11:21:57
He's been awfully quiet this window 🤔😂😂😂.

14.) 01 Feb 2021 12:14:23
I hope he is just being quiet and that it’s nothing more sinister. Come on Kingy drop us a post to let us know your ok. I’ll even accept that you have seen Mbappe down at Bodymoor Heath😀👍.

15.) 01 Feb 2021 13:24:53
David Selke been spotted at Birmingham airport 🤔😂😂😂.

22 Jan 2021 21:37:11
Hat- trick for Louie Barry tonight, ok 2 of them were penalties, but proving again he’s got that ability to hit the back of the net.

1.) 22 Jan 2021 21:54:05
Yeah noticed that Mark, he really is starting to make a name for himself, hearing him speak after the Liverpool game he sounds a nice level headed lad.

2.) 22 Jan 2021 22:48:28
Delighted for the chap, certainly looks like he has a bright future ahead of him.

Ok, my apologies, it’s just that Ed001 made reference to a new Ed this morning. Perhaps we can work on you becoming a Villa supporter 😁.

It was obvious to most Villa fans that both Gueye and Veretout were excellent players, and they’ve gone on to have successful careers at PSG and Roma. Unfortunately they were largely surrounded by mediocrity when they were with us, and we were unable to match their ambitions. Neither would be out of place in the current squad though, and I would be more than happy if we could bring a few more of their calibre and ambition in this Summer.

{Ed077's Note - Well said mark.

Ok Ed, I’ll take a look at that. Left backs should be interesting, hopefully Matt Targett will be well up on your list mate. He’s probably the most improved player at Villa, since last season.

{Ed001's Note - he has improved a lot but I won't know until I start looking at left-backs to sort out an order. He was very highly rated as a youngster, always ahead of Luke Shaw in the pecking order until he picked up an injury just as Southampton needed to bring in a left-back to the first team. Shaw stepped in instead and the rest is history. If Targett had steered clear of injuries things could well have been very different.}

Well it certainly stirred up some debate Ed, maybe you should do the same for Goalkeepers, full backs, midfielders and strikers 👍.

{Ed001's Note - I do a different position every so often mark. I will be doing left-backs next time. If you can be bothered you will find them on ourfootball news and views site. I just leave a bit of a gap between each one of them to make sure that it is not just pretty much a repeat of the last time I did one.} Become a Patron!

That’s fair enough Ed.
I’m not a fan of Southgate either, but I don’t really think if it was anybody else, that either Tompkins or Mee would be in with a shout, apart from Sean Dyche and Roy Hodgson perhaps.

{Ed001's Note - that doesn't mean they are not good defenders. Ask any Burnley fan and they will tell you Mee is their key player, far more important than Tarkowski. I feel sorry for Mee, he has, to a large extent, carried Keane and Tarkowski but they get the plaudits. The minute he was not alongside them, they were awful. It has taken Keane years to adjust since moving to Everton. He is a bit like Dunk, in that he is a leader. And Tompkins has been excellent for Palace but he is not good enough on the ball for international football (plus he does seem to get too many injuries to risk taking to a tournament).} Become a Patron!

Ed, I enjoy reading your articles and respect your views, but to be honest I wouldn’t swap any of your top 3 for either Konsa or Mings. Tyrone has had a few brain farts this season but his recent performances suggest he’s getting back to his best, he looked particularly solid in the last match against Leeds.
It is a very subjective talking point I know, but I think I would have Lewis Dunk in there as well.
Two of your top 3 are English but I can’t honestly see either making the euros ahead of the likes of Maguire, Stones, Mings etc.
I often agree with you, but I am struggling to do so on this occasion.

{Ed001's Note - that's ok, but I would suggest that Southgate is not someone who I would look to as a pointer, the guy is a clueless gimp in a waistcoat who knows less about football than Robbie Savage. I can understand why you like Mings, on his day he is excellent, but he is unreliable and goes through far too many games where he is poor. Lewis Dunk I like but he has not been anything like as good as a player as either Webster or White this season. However he is a very good captain for Brighton, so he would always be in their team first. Even mentioning Maguire just shows how bad the choices are by England as he is truly awful.}
