Apparently we are trying to hijack the deal for Jack Harrison - LotM will be very happy with this if it happens :-)

BK1982

1.) 13 Aug 2023 17:38:28
Indeed I will. I think the fee that was being talked about earlier in the window was £20 million given the current market that’s a snip. What I like about him is he isn’t spectacular but does the simple things well, puts in a shift ie tracks back to support his full back and chips in with between 6-10 goals a season. Add to that he knows the league and he adds to the home grown contingent then it ticks all the boxes for me.

2.) 13 Aug 2023 17:59:35
Agreed, it's not a sexy signing but Emery will inevitably improve him as he has done with our entire squad (with the exception of Bailey and maybe Cash)! He will give us genuine width as well, he hugs that touchline and, once we have a full strength squad (minus Mings and Buendia of course) he will offer us an explosive option off the bench. Get Ramsey and Moreno fit, Harrison and Zaniolo signed and all of a sudden our options off the bench look very good. We need to sort the defence now, Mings leaves an astronomical gap in that defence!

3.) 13 Aug 2023 18:07:57
Shrewd move if it’s true, very good option to have.
How would ye feel about 10 million for chuba Akpom?

4.) 13 Aug 2023 18:38:52
Not sure bout him whack banged in the goals thou

5.) 13 Aug 2023 20:17:16
He’s off to Everton. We pulled out as he’s injured and misses the next 3 or 4 games.

17 May 2023 13:53:17
Mateu Alemany staying at Barcelona now, oh well on to option 2 I guess - That's disappointing though!

BK1982

1.) 17 May 2023 17:48:10
This is a blow and will almost certainly affect our transfer plans. Move on quickly and to plan B.

2.) 18 May 2023 07:34:19
I don't think it'll make a huge difference to our targets AvFc - Emery will be the person identifying the players and I'm sure this won't impact that at all, perhaps it makes getting them a little more difficult but I'm sure we'll address the DoF role very soon.

02 May 2023 22:45:13
Rumours Mateu Alemany, Barcelona's Sporting Director, is en route to Villa Park - I think we can expect a busy summer with an influx of Spanish players! Exciting times ahead, Ferran Torres anybody? :-)

Anybody listen to The Villa View podcast? On the most recent one, Dan Bardell (who I believe does have connections within the club?) suggested that we are targeting ambitious signings at Number 8 and Striker? Better than what we currently have was the message - If true we could have a strong end to the window? Obviously no guarantee and the club won't sign players for the sake of it if we don't get the signings we want but that did sound positive. I wouldn't be surprised if we are targeting Gallagher and Richarlison, not saying we would get either but if say they fall under the ambitious umbrella?

Danny Ings :-) Now let's keep spending boys! going to be a fun few weeks!

BK1982

1.) 04 Aug 2021 18:52:17
That is one out of nowhere. No rumours, no pundit quoting “I’ve heard”, no “in the know”. Just straight in. Like a deadline day signing weeks before the deadline. Great signing.

2.) 04 Aug 2021 19:00:53
Now for Lingard and Martial.

3.) 04 Aug 2021 19:15:36
Best thing about it Trinity, no one had a clue! So professional from the top down now at Villa!

4.) 04 Aug 2021 19:19:39
I have literally in the past 10 mins been told that Axel is on his way deffo, but accompanied by Daniel James, Axel loan, James bought, personally I think he’s a headless chicken so I hope my mate’s full of it lol 😂

UTV.

{Ed014's Note - Dan James from United is absolute pony so I’m hoping they keep him and it’s not true!

5.) 04 Aug 2021 19:39:21
Chris, you’re spot on. A signing like they use to be. No leak, no fuss, just done. Great to see Sky and Talksport taken completely by surprise.
£30m? A bit steep or about right?

6.) 04 Aug 2021 19:59:07
I’ve heard it’s 25 with 5 in add ons, so if it gets to 30 he will have done something significant to get the price to 30. I’d say it’s a good deal for both sides, we get the best goal scorer outside the top 6, they get decent money for a player they could potentially lose for free if he dug his heels in.

7.) 04 Aug 2021 20:30:02
I wondered where he would end up going, great buy, good luck in the new season.

8.) 04 Aug 2021 19:37:46
My thoughts too Ed, same guy told me Curtis Jones a few days ago too, not keen on that 1 either

UTV.

{Ed014's Note - Curtis Jones from Liverpool? I’d be surprised if they let him go.

9.) 06 Aug 2021 18:14:42
Curtis Jones is a good shout. However, unless the scousers want the cash for their own target, I agree that he could be out of reach.

Fulham’s Zambo Anguissa’s name has cropped up again. I saw a report the club are reluctant to lose him, but have a £20M target in mind if forced to consider a release. Roma are also interested (also linked to El Ghazi) .

Now we have most of our additions, I wonder if there will be a few departures (e. g. AEG, Hourihane and big Wes)?

10.) 06 Aug 2021 23:09:07
I am sure Smith and Lange are taking stock with how the squad is shaping up. You can be forgiven for applauding every new offensive player that may fill the void left by the floppy haired one. However, how our we stacking up in terms of team balance?

If we opt to accommodate Buendia, Bailey, Watkins and Ings, how do we field sufficient strength behind them? Is a combination of two from McGinn, Luiz, Sanson and Nakamba going to cut the mustard? If not, what can we do to address this? A tricky one.

11.) 07 Aug 2021 07:01:13
AJ those players mentioned, with the exception of Bailey who's an unknown quantity, have one thing in common-workrate. As seems to be the new mantra- defend from the front. I think we'll be fine. We all know McGinn doesn't stop running and Nakamba can provide the defensive shield. Luiz can do the job too plus Sansom, when fit has similar attributes as McGinn. I believe Beundia will be the link between midfield and attack but with so many useful options up front I feel we'll retain the ball a lot better this season. Only time will tell and it may take a while for it all to come together but I'm optimistic for the season ahead.

12.) 07 Aug 2021 08:25:36
I agree with you, Moose, in regard to Buendia’s likely role. The Nakamba/ McGinn combination fits the high energy philosophy better than one including Luiz, who has been disappointing, despite a promising start. Both Sanson and, I agree, Bailey are difficult performers to judge, at least at this stage. The latter looks to be the maverick in the pack potentially.

It wouldn’t be beyond the realms of Smith to plan to play something along the lines of a 4-2-1-3 with Buendia playing behind Watkins, Ings and Bailey. Perhaps not always the set up in the tougher games, but still as a frequent arrangement.

13.) 07 Aug 2021 10:26:14
I'm hoping that those front 4 will be extremely interchangeable and offer us more flexibility with formations and also keep the opposition guessing.

14.) 07 Aug 2021 21:27:50
I agree. Going to be a fluid front 3/ 4 with an exciting array of options to choose from.

We still need to replace Engels (probably going to be Axel returning), and I think we could do with a higher quality back up keeper than Jed.

Then we need something in midfield. A more complete defensive midfielder than Nakamba. Anguissa would be great (his performance metrics last season were superb), and maybe even be a better option than the more expensive Bissouma (odds on him coming have shortened dramatically) .

I think we still need a naturally left sided attacker too. To upgrade on Anwar. For me, he’s pretty much at his ceiling, and his game would be better suited to a slower paced league where he’s afforded more time and space. He’d do bits for Roma, if that move pans out. Cantwell seems less likely now, but he’d be a good option. or I’d definitely take Damsgaard.

I love to pop in occasionally to read the monumental meltdowns on this site when Villa under perform or are in a sticky period and today did not disappoint - People "losing faith" in Emery is probably my favorite but there were some other absolute gems.

LOTM had a brilliant post that I fully agree with - Emery is an elite manager who will get it right, performances as below par but we need some perspective as a fanbase. 8 games without a win in which:

1. We conceded a 96 min equaliser against Bournemouth and were denied a 95 min winner against Juventus in the CL - Harshly IMO, some may disagree.
2. Lost to Palace in a cup that nobody at the club gives two sh*ts about, including Emery (whether we agree with this or not as fans it's accurate)
3. Lost to Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool away, three teams that (whether we like it or not) are stronger in all departments than Villa and are expected to beat us at home despite the heroics from last year.
4. Lost an away CL fixture (our first and only so far this season) because of a shambolic mistake by Mings and the ref blowing for a penalty where many others would not have.

Yes we aren't playing fantastically well (today in particular was really poor by our standards) but some of the comments I've seen here and on social media are borderline comical and genuinely makes me think we don't deserve good things as a fanbase. If you don't think this club is moving in the right direction, despite being absolutely hamstrung by FFP restrictions that the clubs we are trying to catch aren't anywhere near as impacted by, then maybe football isn't for you. Please be patient, please trust the manager and get behind the players!

Love it BK

3.) 02 Dec 2024 12:25:57
It’s been a very long time since I’ve posted on here but I must admit I do browse from time to time.
Anyway when I read your post BK I felt motivated to react. Well said that man, spoken like a true supporter.
I have absolutely no doubts at all that Villa will get through this low, and we’ll be flying high again before long.
In Unai we trust, at least most of us do anyway.

4.) 02 Dec 2024 13:46:40
markdavfrance nice to see you posting again. I remember quite some time ago you praising Ait Nouri and saying he was someone we ought to be looking at long before he moved to Wolves, and how right you were at the time I was posting under a different nom de plume.

Lads, do we actually have a chance of signing Pau Torres? The noises online seem to be getting more positive by the day!

BK1982

1.) 29 Jun 2023 13:31:27
Course we do mate we are massive lol. We havnt got as much money as rumoured so price as got to be right aswel but we will get good players in its about getting better slightly every season!

2.) 29 Jun 2023 13:52:48
Romano says we are in advanced negotiations with villareal and personal terms are no issue. the athletic are claiming the deal is done. great if this is true it’s quiet a statement signing.

3.) 29 Jun 2023 14:19:14
Read this morning that we are ‘leading the race’ to sign Torres so it sounds possible ?

4.) 29 Jun 2023 14:22:25
Looks like it’s done there’s huge noise about it now

5.) 29 Jun 2023 14:34:13
The Athletic are saying it’s agreed - not sure how reliable they are ? Amazing if it is a done deal ?

6.) 29 Jun 2023 14:47:13
It’s all over Twitter and The Guardian have announced it, so they’re going to look a bit foolish if it’s not true ?

7.) 29 Jun 2023 14:52:56
It will be interesting to see which two start when season begins. The assumption has to be Torres plus A N Other. I think he will want that other to be right footed so I think Mings is likely to miss out initially.

8.) 29 Jun 2023 15:11:12
Apparently you are right Whack.
What a marquee signing that is.

9.) 29 Jun 2023 15:11:24
Looks done boys! Get in! Tielemans and Torres is a serious start to the window! :-)

10.) 29 Jun 2023 17:15:26
Now on Sky Sports and they keep quiet until there is something concrete.
Top player but surprised he was the focus with Mings being our best defender by miles, possible he plays 2 left footers or switches to a 3, let's see what happens.

Max Lee, who is supposed to be very reputable, has said Villa have agreed a fee but apparently our wages are nowhere near as good as the Saudi club, apparently Diaby is waiting on them to agree a fee and will make a decision then! Fingers crossed!

Coming from the same source as recent days, Rudy Galletti, who is reportedly a little unreliable LotM - But, you know what they say, a broken clock is right twice a day so who knows. He's the only person reporting that Diaby has decided against Villa. Time will tell, I'd expect to hear something today or tomorrow, this is dragging on.

He's very good Menace, I've watched him a few times - Not sure he's exactly what we need but what do I know, if Emery wants him that's good enough for me. I think Barcelona are after him as well so, like all our reported targets, we have serious competition for him. I'm taking every link with a pinch of salt though, the majority are utter bo**ocks in my opinion, seen us linked with Chiesa last night, not for one second do I believe that link for example.

I think he's had 2 really bad injuries, I'd worry about his fitness and pace, that's something we are badly lacking and needs to be addressed in the summer. Would be surprised if this one was true.

Smith and Gerrard weren't a Donnarumma masterclass away from taking Aston Villa to the Champions League semi final - Smith and Gerrard hadn't taken Aston Villa into Europe for 3 seasons in a row - Smith and Gerrard weren't a poor referee decision away from consecutive Champions League qualifications a few months ago. All with his hands tied behind his back and non of the advantages associated with the "Big 6"!

Be very careful what you wish for - Aston Villa will NOT get a better manger than Emery and he has more than enough credit in the bank. Anybody calling for him to be sacked after 5 games needs to give their head a wobble!

Hardly ever post anymore but LOTM I had to reply to your post - "Whiners"? Mate, we've had 2 poor performances in a row, I don't care that Emery has taken us from relegation threatened to the brink of the Champions League semi-final, I don't care that we have qualified for Europe 3 seasons in a row, I don't care that we have finished 7th, 4th and 6th in the league despite Emery (and the club) competing with one hand tied behind their back financially - Have you seen how we played the past 2 games? Emery deserves to be questioned!

I hope sarcasm comes across in my post as I 100% agree with you - We will be fine, the "whining" demonstrates what I've always said about Villa fans, we don't deserve good things!

We need the German teams to get knocked out ASAP - Can't see West Ham beating Leverkusen unless they rest players to focus on the league but we should all be Atletico and Arsenal fans for the coming round in the CL. If they go out and the English teams progress (bar West Ham) then it should mean 5th spot is secure as a CL spot.

A very sensible reaction Whack!

Everything that could go wrong today, did! Our typically flawless manager made a selection mistake and gave Spurs too much respect, uncharacteristic mistakes by players like Konsa, a very harsh red card (I don't know how anybody can genuinely argue that was deserved) and playing a team who are absolute killers when they smell blood! It's a cocktail of disasters that could only ever end one way, we will bounce back, I'm 100% sure!

I read a good stat on Twitter (and I haven't spotchecked it so don't shoot the messenger) that when Villa beat Arsenal we went 8 points clear of United and since then United have been on a "resurgence" and Villa have hit a "rough patch" or "blip" - Yet, here we are, 8 points ahead of them still! For me United are in a false position, I've no idea how they won so many games, things can change of course but if we can get all 3 points against Luton and City beat United (as most would expect) then I find it very hard to see them leapfrogging us? We'd be 11 points clear with 11 games to play, given our goal difference United would need to win 4 more games that us during the last 11 matches! In other words, next weekend could be massive in the race for Top 4 or 5!
