Overall that must be our best performance of the season . Cash,Mings, Moreno, Dougie all had great games, Ramsey certainly had his best .Ollie worked as hard as ever, did everything but score and Buendia had one of those days, undoubted effort, but got outnumbered and bullied. McGinn was as good as he's ever been, effort, strength, energy and ability, he showed us the lot today .
Another break for Emery to keep weaving his magic, let's keep it rolling .

Agree thought cash was fantastic. All round good team performance hopefully we can beat Chelsea next time out and move above them in the table. Is Europe on the cards or just a dream? A strong finish to the season will certainly make it interesting. UTV

I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday what with the rugby starting straight after the game, I don’t think it was our best performance of the season but it was up there, they had chances that better players would of scored but hey it’s the premier league so every team will have chances, I see Scot skating Bailey again, he’s not brilliant but he does create chances and he’s way better than traore and it’s all we have till the summer so there’s no real point in keeping banging on about it, personally I was disappointed with Buendia for most of the game but then he pops up with a goal and Bailey got an assist so for as bad as they might be they still done a job yesterday, most wingers/creative midfielders will frustrate you half the time either way, but for now Bailey is our best option in that position. I’d love to have archer there to bring on as a sub, hopefully we keep him around next year. looking forward to our remaining games there’s positions to be gained we have lots of games against teams just ahead of us (6 pointers) keep our focus and try win 5-6 of them and Europe is still there or thereabouts, last point, that first handball was a disgrace that it wasn’t given, look at the one city got last week, just no consistency and constant bias towards the city’s and uniteds.

Sadly Whack I don’t see Archer being with us next season, particularly if as we suspect a striker is on the summers shopping list. If we do land an established goalscorer then add Watkins andDuran into the mix I can’t see Archer at this age accepting being 4th choice striker. If we do sell the interesting thing will be what we sell him for. ie do we look to maximise the fee now? Or do we sell at a slightly lower figure but stick a significant sell on clause?

I think a number of our loan players will end up being sold on in the summer, the likes of Davis, Philogene Bidace and probably Barry as he hasn’t kicked on as expected. Given the ages of Ramsey and Ireobugnam I think they may persevere and send them out on loan for another season before they make a final decision on those two.

Finally great result for the boys yesterday Grand Slam secured, World Cup next ?☘️

Im not so sure about a striker being on the shopping list lord, if Ollie keeps his performances up and hits the 15 goal mark I think he’ll be our main striker next season, we just need a backup if that’s what happens and if archer is scoring every week then Emery has to take notice, he’s an intelligent man after all. RB, CM and winger is where I think we spend big in the summer, obviously a keeper if Martinez go’s. I’m only speculating as only Emery will know what he wants, I can’t see us spending over 100 million unless there’s a huge clear out and I don’t see that either cause then it takes another full season to build the team, I think a few fringe/loaned/underachieving youngsters will be sold off but I can’t see huge changes as we need squad depth to push on.
I can see Ireobugnam on the bench for us next year with dendonker sold. chambers gone also, Emery likes to use his bench even if it weakens us he seems to value fresh legs and better to be bringing on these youngsters instead of “past it” average or worse players currently coming on.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer Whack and speculating is fun isn’t it ?. My personal view however is the opposite of yours I think there will be a massive clear out particularly as Purslow indicated recently that he expected it to be a busy summer for us. I agree we definitely will be looking for a central midfielder, winger and right back who will go straight into the first XI (although personally i think Cash is ok but clearly Emery does not) but I also think he wants a left back to challenge Moreno at least one centre back who is comfortable on the ball and in my view an out and out number 9. I can see us spending around the £200 million mark with at least half being funded by sales of the more established names in the squad the likes of Digne,Cash, Konsa, Nakamba, Chambers, Dendoncker, Sanson plus some of the talented youngsters like, Archer, Davis etc. I absolutely take your point re wholesale change the only thing I would say to mitigate the possible impact is to get our business done early in the window enabling the manager to have a full pre season with the players.

I think we'll see all the players out on loan be sold in the summer with the exception of Iroegbunam and I also think we'll see Traore, Digne and Chambers leave from the first but beyond that I don't believe we can (or will) let many more go. For me well go after a CM (Guendouzi), winger (Williams), RB and Striker. If we lose players elsewhere (as above) they will be replaced of course but that's my prediction for the summer, striker being a 50M+ signing.

BK I tend to agree re our loanee’s however I can’t see the likes of Cash settling for a place on the bench.

Interesting to see links to Lukaku.

Agree with most of the above but really can't see Villa selling either Ramsey or Archer.if Villa go big for a striker Archer will probably go on loan again, possibly to one of the teams that go up or even another top division club in another country.

20 Mar 2023 19:25:12
Archer will be 22 next year i think if I was him given his record I would be looking to secure regular first team football and if we do sign a top striker Archer would probably be 4th choice that would tell me all I need to know in terms of how the club rated my abilities.

20 Mar 2023 23:45:17
Only time will tell with Archer, but given the club handed him a five year contract last year and the fact he's developing well I'd be surprised if they opted to sell (at least without a buy-back clause) unless they got offered silly money. Most big clubs now loan out young talent until they are in their early 20's and ready to slot in with minimum risk and I hope we start acting like a big club on this front. Who knows though eh.
Can pretty much guarantee that we won't be selling Ramsey though.

LotM, I think at full back in particular Emery will look for options, I don't necessarily think Cash would need to settle for a place on the bench but I'd definitely expect greater competition for places by the start of next season (in all positions). If players don't want to fight for their place then this Villa side is not for them, and I'm sure some will see Matt Targett as a prime example of the grass not always being greener at another club. We'll need a squad if Europe is a genuine target so some players will need to drop to the bench and become finishers rather than starters, it's the only way we improve as a club.

Good points dbs and BK, Emery is managing digne and Moreno well, both getting decent playing time, we need that in every position if we want to step up with the big boys, take grealish as another example, not starting every week but in a team fighting for multiple trophies each year, you can play every week of your career and win nothing or you can rotate and win lots of things like so many United, City and Chelsea players have done over the years, wages also come into it, if we can consistently get into Europe spots we can afford to give better packages to players and you can’t play twice a week with the same starting 11 constantly
