So, no Villa players in the England Squad at all. I can't say I'm entirely surprised. Whilst obviously this is a chance for Southgate to try out some new blood, I see he has described some of the other chosen full backs as 'slightly ahead' of Mings which hopefully will wake him up a bit in terms of consistency. Ollie too I can understand as his finishing has been patchy since his previous call-ups. Hopefully we will have a squad of players worthy of a regular call-up next season. Mind you, I think there's a chance of absolutely any donkey being called up if Maguire is still worthy of a place.

And that’s the point Menace, Beaky speaks with forked tongue, he stays loyal as he puts it to the likes of his favourites like Maguire and Mount they get picked time and again irrespective of form, yet people like Mings get dumped when his form dips. I don’t think Mings necessarily deserves his place but at least be consistent and apply the same rules to all or just tell him based on form at present he is not good enough but don’t spin it to suit a personal agenda. Currently I am more inclined to believe Boris Johnson didn’t attend a party in Downing Street than anything that comes out of Southgate’s mouth.

Loti, I agree Southgate is a snake, Mings and ollies form hasn't been great, but Maguires has been awful and yet he will still be captain. Like Villa i want England to win, however i think with Southgate England will be quarter finalists at best. He has his favourites and is totally blinkered where Mount, Maguire and Stirling are concerned and sadly, ultimately it will do for him.

Southgate changes what he says to suit his favourites all the time. I’ve noticed it dozens of times during international breaks.
I don’t really have much interest in it anymore in fairness and It’s a shame really because the players available to him are probably the strongest they have been for a long time and so many of them have age of their side, I just don’t think he’s the right man for the job. However because of the limited success he’s seen as this super coach and the FA seem to idolise him because he’s a perfect yes man for them too.

I'm from Ireland so don't have a dog in this fight but Southgate is the main reason this England team (absolutely stacked with talent) won't win the World Cup - His squad and team selections simply aren't brave enough and despite saying he has not favourites, continues to pick his favourites :-) I'm delighted no Villa players were selected, it'll give them time to recharge over the coming weeks and be a big motivator next season.
