Interesting Q and A session with Ashley Preece on Birmingham live which suggests we won't be exceeding the £33 million we spent on Buendia this window, our interest in JWP is not going any further and he implies our targets are more likely to be the likes of Alvarez and Romeu.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would be happy with that John, it gives us more attacking options, and would help steady things up in front of back four.

I'm a little suspect when it comes to these reports, one minute we a spending big, the next it'll be a few shrewd signings in key positions. The reality is nobody outside of the club knows what Villa intend on spending but if we are intent on signing a Smith-Rowe calibre of player it will mean breaking our transfer record again, that I have no doubt. If we end up signing a quality creative midfielder and Romeu, that's a very decent window.

Agree BK, most of these signings come out of nowhere, the club are never telling anyone they will spend big or else teams would just try squeeze every last penny out of us. they do seem determined in the case of ESR, good player but I don’t think worth anymore than the 25 initially offered.

I agree BK re one minute we are spending loads the next minute we aren’t, but if you go back over the last couple of windows the club has laid out it’s approach up front and have by and large stuck to the plan. They have said they won’t be spending massively this time round and I see no reason to disbelieve them. The other thing around the window is that whilst all the transfer speculation is great for a site like this and the chat it generates, I must admit to having a sneaking regard for the way Norwich go about there business for example I don’t recall any rumours linking them to Rashica the first we heard of it was when the deal was done, I might be old fashioned (and yes I am 😀) but to my mind that’s how transfer business should be done.

Preece is starting to make people question his credibility, first all he broke the news it was a quiet summer with a few low key signings, then when we signed Buendia he puts out a big article that “everything changed in one afternoon when the owners decided this was a chance to catch up to the likes of Everton and Arsenal”, now that we haven’t signed anyone in a few weeks he’s saying it’s going to be quiet from here on out.

He’s starting to sound like he’s just guessing and then covering up for his BS after the fact.

John Percy is still the main man.
