Personally I think Southgate did the right thing in not playing Jack I mean let's be honest he had a fitness test on the day of the Liverpool game and you can clearly see he is carrying a injury so what's more important Englans or Villa I ask you?

It definitely benefits Villa him not playing, but that isn’t the reason Southgate didn’t pick him, because he played him against Wales.

Doesn’t send a very good message to others however. Out perform your direct rivals and you may or may not be selected, if you are selected there’s a slim chance you’ll be given a shot, and if you are and you secure a MOTM award, you will then be dropped whilst we watch 3 right backs and 3 defensive midfielders at home. Almost Brucesque.

Although I think everyone knows now, Southgate has his favourites, and whilst others may get a friendly game here and there, or 10 minutes in a proper game, ultimately we could all pick the x11 that will most likely start. Shame as we currently have some really great players kicking about, with serious form, imagine how Michel Antonio must be feeling.

Totally agree Chris and I'll be honest I hope he don't play Wednesday either for the sake of our club. England bore me and have done for years it's so tedious to watch.

Unfortunately I don’t think the situation is going to change anytime soon Southgate is the type of manager the FA suits love, he conducts the media side of the role very well in fairness, and takes the pressure off the guys at the top. Even if we perform poorly at next years Euro’s I don’t see the FA getting rid of Southgate and therefore I think Jack will not have as lengthy England career as his talent justifies which is a shame from the national team’s perspective.

Agreed John again.

The situation with Jack reminds me a little (for those of us who go that far back) of Hoddle versus Sid, Sid was a much more cultured midfielder than he was given credit for by the football media, and should have won far more caps than he did, but Hoddle was favoured because he played for a successful London side, don’t get me wrong Hoddle was a very good player but I think he won fifty odd caps and Sid about ten and in no way did that reflect the talent of our man, and I think Jack is going to suffer a similar fate. The major difference here is that in no way is Mount a better player than Jack which is what makes this scenario unjust.
