The level of opposition forced us to play to the strengths of the team. Hopefully Gerrard sees this and does not revert to type in the next 2 games.

This is the minimum standard going forward - Dedonker in for McGinn, Coutinho and Buendia as impact subs. Absolutely outstanding performance today, Gerrard got it spot on, if we criticise him when he gets it right we need to praise him when he delivers.

We had 1 shot on target, great result for us but let’s not get carried away, let’s get a run of good performances going, seemed like a much better atmosphere today hopefully we can turn a corner now.

This ? Outside the elite clubs there won't be many teams that make life as difficult for City BUT it's one game, we need to take this performance into Leicester and Southampton - If we don't then this performance is totally redundant.

I agree, BK1982. Yes, we really did win against Manchester City, and Aston Villa received 1 point, but let's be realistic. Aston Villa didn't receive all 3 points. Another lousy VAR decision going against the Villa. I saw the highlights, and Coutinho was definitely onside.
Is Aston Villa going to be consistent now?
If they do play like this the rest of the season, then great. If not, then I won't even care about just 1 point. Yes, originally it was 3 points and 2-1 to us, but the officials disagree.

Much as I would like the goal to have stood the City players stopped when the flag went up a couple of them were close enough to have been able to close Coutinho down whether or not they would have done is open to question, and therefore no way could the goal have been allowed to stand unfortunately.
