Anyone else starting to wonder if the Premier League game officials are taking bungs? Just watching MOTD and the pathetic misuse of VAR is beyond incompetence. Time after time it favours the same teams as well.

There has always been a bias by officials towards the bigger clubs .The whole thing has to be looked at,VAR has just added another layer,of incompetence. The ref yesterday,as shown by his actions, just couldn’t wait to blow up where Villa where concerned. The have started to let certain tackles go,but this opens up another can of worms, when you have a bias ref in the first place .Whether some are afraid of upsetting, the big time managers I don’t know, but yes it needs looking into .

56 When you consider VAR was bought in to get decisions right, yesterday proves that referees stick together and the VAR man is not an independent view without bias. I have advocated that we should have a reciprocal agreement with france Germany Holland Italy Belgium using the top referees that officiate in the champions league. The technology means they can be based anywhere, of course there may be a small element of referees sticking together however they are far more likely to being independent. let's not forget the premier league referees get together round the table on a regular basis and there is a lot of friendship within the clan.

I agree with most that VAR and general officiating hasn't had a good weekend, or even a good season so far, but the nature of the conversation around referee's role in football has to change before we'll see any meaningful improvement to how football matches are played and officiated. There is a culture within top level football that has been allowed to grow and get worse every season with players and coaching staff constantly lowering the bar in cheating, influencing and misleading the officials and winding up the fans in the process. It is absolutely mental that this is permitted for 90 minutes and then all the focus is on a disallowed goal or bad offside decision. There needs to be a big culture shift and strong leadership by governing bodies (assuming that clubs can't be relied on to improve themselves) to turn this corner before we'll see any substantial shift. Need to stop focusing on the symptom and start focussing on the root cause.
