Can anyone put there finger on why we can't defend crosses, it really is a worrying trend. Almost every goal we concede comed from a crossed ball, three Saturday, one today and one escape. We need to sort it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Our full backs don’t get tight enough which is the problem in my view, they are great offensively but not so good going the other way. Opposition widemen are given too much time to pick a cross.

Yes Scott we have ball playing defenders who can't head a ball

Missing Cash

Cos we haven't got mings organizing the defence at corners plus mings is immense in the air, where pau is class but isn't good in the air, we need more 6ftrs especially in midfield aswell, we are quite a small team not a bad thing thou, i do think we will be better in defence nxt season

Jonny you know my view on Mings, apart from emi he would be the first name on the team sheet.All of the responses have merit, a commanding presence in Mings and whilst cash isn't the perfect right back I agree with Daz, he certainly cuts more crosses out than ever Konsa does, so we have missed Cash.
On a separate note last night's results haven't done us any favours for the premier league getting the extra champions league place.Highly unlikely but entirely possible that none of the premier teams progress past the quarter finals, if that's the case or just a couple of us getting through then the. Germans will almost certainly pip us for the extra spot.So come on Liverpool, Arsenal, West Ham, Man city and us of course, show the French, Germans, Italians we are still the best, not an easy task though.

{Ed001's Note - have you seen the footage of his training on his comeback? The leg that was injured is withered away to almost nothing. Or maybe was? I am not sure how long ago the footage was filmed, but it is astonishing to see the muscle wastage.}

Ed, yes the images were not good, however things have moved on since then, his rehabilitation is well on track according to the latest reports and he sounds in a really positive place .

{Ed001's Note - it was just a really good insight into how much work they have to put in to rehab.}

I like Mings I always have done even when some on here were giving him stick, I think he is a quality centre back, but even if he is fully fit come next season I don’t see him starting. Torres was signed because he was a left footed ball playing centre half he will be Emery’s first choice, I don’t see Emery playing two left footed centre halves so I think his first choice pairing will be Konsa/Torres. It wouldn’t surprise me if Mings was sold particularly if we sign Hermoso.

LOTM, do you not think a strong presence with pace and ability to command the box who can head a ball is better than someone who lacks all of the qualities needed to play at centre back at the top level.What I have seen of Torres lately he definitely doesn't tick enough boxes for me.

12 Apr 2024 19:12:22
It’s not what either you or I think, it’s what Emery thinks and it seems to me that he values a centre back who brings the ball out from the back, is very comfortable in possession commits the oppositions midfield and who can pick a pass over one who commands the box. As I say I like Mings always have but I fear his days as first choice may be over. I sincerely hope I am wrong however.

We miss Mings leadership but its definitely Carlos that is the weak link back there rather than Torres.
Carlos has been so casual it's unreal. Emery wants us to be patient but there is a right and wrong way to do it. Torres stays 100% focused and is always looking for an option, Carlos is swaggering around but not backing it up with anything.
