We have beaten Steve Bruce's Newcastle to sign up Axel Tuanzebe for a third loan spell with us.

Latest report from AV official is John Terry has left the club. Anyone know anything further?
1.) 26 Jul 2021 13:25:13
I've heard ( totally made up) that he's taking up a senior role at Chelsea as he wants to carry on mentoring Jack 😳ðŸ˜ðŸŽ£.

There has been a recent post on Twitter that suggests Villa are interested in Aleksandr Golovin, who is currently with Monaco. As he normally plays on the left flank. Make of that what you will.
Transfer Markt lists him with a value of £25.2M. Normally, you might bargain with adding 20% onto that, but the current market in France is depressed due to C.V. and TV rights issues, so maybe a good deal might be struck?
Monaco are also carrying a very large first team squad, so a few sales might just suit them too at present.

Yes AJ, I was talking with Chris about him weeks ago.
In fact it was Chris who mentioned him, he is a very good player and one who would catch the eye.
2.) 13 Jul 2021 15:45:54
Sadly I think the links are BS as I agree, he would be an excellent signing.
3.) 13 Jul 2021 19:07:03
That would be an absolute dream, close to being a wet one😂
Can’t see it happening and although I think we should be targeting a defensive midfielder, this would be brilliant business.

I have read on the old Twit pages that we are looking closely at Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo as Engel's replacement. He doesn't look a bad bet to me.
08 Oct 2020 17:11:51
Another website has suggested Lansbury might be on his way, possibly via a loan deal to a Championship club.
I have also read that if a new club cannot be found, he may be paid off in a similar severance arrangement to Jota/ Nyland.
The problem here seems to lie with the combination of Championship standard performances versus Premier League wages.
1.) 09 Oct 2020 12:21:39
Local press have suggested Villa are looking for potential exits for fringe players Guilbert, Lansbury and El Ghazi. This could be another re-hash article, but could also be seen as a catalyst for a further addition being sought from the EFL.

Everton have just announced Thierry Small is now a free agent. I think there is a fair chance we will see him in the claret and blue shortly.
We will have to pay compensation, but he looks worth the investment.
1.) 11 Aug 2021 11:52:36
I’d day that’s nailed on, and he can learn a few things off Ashley Young, we’re going to be the Real Madrid of U23’s the way things are shaping up

Football Insider has suggested Keinan Davis has been awarded with a two year contract extension.
As much as this is good news for the young striker, does it pose fresh questions over the continued services of Messrs Samatta and Hogan?
With Wesley still to return, it perhaps suggests Smith and Lange have pretty much concluded their central striker search. Some may need to scrub Edouard and Brewster off their wish lists?
1.) 14 Sep 2020 17:52:15
I posted on here a while back that I thought the best thing to do with Davis, assuming we signed a decent starting striker, would be to get him signed up and loan him out to an attacking Championship team to get him scoring and regular football. Really hope this happens as I think there is a lot of potential there, just needs a career jump start.
2.) 14 Sep 2020 18:45:10
If Keinan hadn’t been so hampered with injuries, I honestly think he would be the real deal by now.
I agree DBS, if he’s loaned out, I believe he will find that allusive goal scoring touch.
He has so many other qualities, strong ( bullies defenders), quick and great at bringing others in to play with his ability to hold the ball up.
Start finding the net Keinan and you will be one hell of a striker.
3.) 14 Sep 2020 18:46:50
I like Davis very much and think he has great hold up qualities and general ability, but on the evidence of his displays so far, he is not a striker.
4.) 14 Sep 2020 19:09:50
Mark, I think if Davis could score 10 - 15 goals a season he would demand a fee in the region of 30-35 mil, maybe more 😎.
5.) 14 Sep 2020 19:22:54
If he starts finding the net Dave, I would prefer to see him banging them in for us.
6.) 14 Sep 2020 19:27:25
Of course mate, goes without saying, I like him a lot, always have done.
7.) 14 Sep 2020 20:10:48
Keinan is well worth persevering with, even when Tammy was scoring, Keinan always looked good . Certainly stronger and brilliant at holding the ball up . I hope it’s true and we keep him . He needs to keep hisself fit and find regular games on loan . With regular football and getting scoring, I really think he could be a big bonus for us .

I noticed a couple of our reported targets were not playing for their respective teams today, namely John Swift (Reading) and Jay Dasilva (Bristol City) . Read into that what you may.
The original reported plan from someone or other suggested Smith wanted a CM and a back up LB.
1.) 12 Sep 2020 21:39:41
Swift played for 78 mins today.
2.) 12 Sep 2020 21:55:04
🙈🙈🙈.
09 Sep 2020 22:20:06
A new name has emerged tonight as another midfield option; Clement Grenier (Stade Renaiss) .
He is 29 and looks to be on the move, either to Spain or here.
It seems as though Villa are intent on bringing in an additional central midfielder, but at a relatively modest fee (Gallagher, Swift etc. ) . To be fair, there is probably a few more affordable options available in this position.
I have not seen enough of Gallagher, nor anything of the Frenchman, but think Swift looks handy and versatile.
1.) 09 Sep 2020 22:57:41
Yeah have seen that AJ, I would have thought Swift would have been the preferred option in that case, knowing the English game.
I like Swift, but this is a strange one mate.
2.) 10 Sep 2020 14:35:22
Keep on saying it, Isaac Hayden, £10M or less
UTV.
3.) 10 Sep 2020 15:38:17
Think the Hayden boat has sailed, settled up North now, Bruce put a lot of trust in him.
4.) 10 Sep 2020 21:20:41
Just had a search Chris, Hayden has took on a new agent to sort out his future, his family and as I understand it he has a poorly child, are still in London, West Ham and Palace are keeping tabs on him, he’s 1 of 10 or 11 that are in the last year of their contract, although he won’t push for a move, he’s not going to sign a contract extension

30 Aug 2021 13:47:21
Both appear to be going nowhere.
30 Aug 2021 13:46:06
I have seen reports that Villa are not in for Curtis Jones - it is purely a case of SUN speak.
Hourihane seems close a loan move to Sheff. Utd, whilst Guilbert could be on his way to Fulham or a few options in France. This might make room for one more newie?
24 Aug 2021 14:34:58
Yes Delaney’s name is doing the rounds. I can see some sense in the move as a 2-3 year plan. Much like Ings, he could help us achieve that next step up as a regular top 6-8 side. However, I think at least one, probably two, outgoings will need to be in the barrel to help balance up the side.
I believe we still need to commit a 25 man squad at some point and we are, arguably 3 over that. I have included Sinasola as 3rd keeper, although Smith may be tempted into the wider market should Villa agree to release Martinez (and Buendia) for international duty shortly. I note some clubs are refusing releases.
17 Aug 2021 16:22:47
If the reported bid for Doucoure was made, it would suggest a final transfer could still be in the can. I do still expect some outgoings may well occur, but whether that will only be in the form of loans, who knows?
13 Aug 2021 23:39:53
If any position still appears open for a recruit, DM looks to be it. I get the feeling that any further additions will be few now. In some ways, I am comfortable with that because I think too much change is hard for a squad to digest.
But for some floppy haired guy doing the dirty on us, it had appeared that 2 or 3 changes in the pipeline were the sum of our recruitment plan. Now we could be looking at 6 or 7 new players, all told. That is a big number to integrate with little run in to the season.
Perhaps we might now see a swing towards a few outgoings; either as loans or possible sales. Big Wes, Hourihane and maybe AEG could potentially feature.
In many ways, I would hope a smattering of the younger guys now get the chance to come into Smith’s final squad. Sinasalo, Chuckwuemeka (Jr) and Philogene-Bidace appear to have made decent bids.
Weighing it all up, I think we are shaping up pretty well, but as fans, we need to remain patient. There is plenty of player bedding in to achieve over the next few months.
Clearly, our plan to bring in Buendia as a second source of real creativity took a bit of a backwards step with the loss our our original inspiration, but other strengths have compensated. The addition of Danny Ings, in particular, demonstrates this.
Given our need to react quickly to the loss of a key player, I think we have good reason to remain optimistic that we have managed to remain on course with our development plan. Whether this year will be a big step forwards, I am not certain, but, arguably, I only see five teams markedly ahead of us in terms of squad strength.
27 May 2021 23:51:52
Seem to think we could have had Buendia for a whole lot less 12 months ago.
I am not convinced Arsenal have much dosh to play with without selling players. With that in mind, an early play for Buendia will likely play to our strengths.
Smith and Purslow's recent commments seem to suggest only a few additions. It will be interesting to see if, say, Sinasalo gets a chance as no. 3 keeper or whether we go for someone like Gazzaniga.
20 Oct 2020 01:15:46
Chukwuemeka looked alright too.
13 Sep 2020 14:51:18
I have wondered if Smith’s past history with the Bees has actually been a disadvantage.
From memory, Maupay ended up being sold for a cheaper value than we had been quoted.
13 Sep 2020 14:42:28
The only issue I have with whatever combination we use up front is the way the wide men are deployed. There must be more support for the central striker (presumably Watkins) than we saw last term. The wingers need to cut in when appropriate. Equally, if Grealish is playing behind, he needs to be prepared to advance beyond the front man.
A front three of Rashica - Watkins - Traore/ King looks good offensively, but I worry we could be out-muscled in midfield. I am in the minority, but feel the team is better balanced with Grealish as one of the front three, even if that is not his preferred role.
McGinn will need to get back to his best to support Luiz and the defence, particularly with two forward thinking full backs in Cash and Targett. I still think we look potentially vulnerable defensively.
22 Aug 2020 11:51:13
I get the feeling Villa are aiming to keep all, bar the odd exceptional deal, under the £20M mark. This could be just an adjustment for the the virus impact and knowing money is tight all around or perhaps because the reported £100M kitty (reported by the Sun and repeated by many) is complete tosh.
I think the club are likely aiming for up to five additions with perhaps a budget closer to £70-75M. Of course, press reports are iffy at the best of times, but many of the £20M quoted prices seems to see the club seeking out alternatives. Perhaps a striker might be the exception.
All supposition I know, but I will be surprised if we break the £100M spending barrier this time.
