At last, a win, more like it, first half played some good stuff. Great goal by Rogers, flukie pen by Ollie, good volley by Cash at the far post . Kamara once again had a good game, Ginny looks so much better, in the middle.
Don't know if others will agree, but I think Mings proved some people right . Time and again in the right place for headed clearances and getting blocks in .
On now to Southampton on Saturday, up to 7th so we need another win UTV

Dave, Mings certainly proved you and me right, a tall defender with a bit more pace than Torres definitely improved our overall defensive performance. I hope those who made the spiteful comments about Mings after the Brugge game (they know who they are) eat their words. Rogers had his best game for a while, confidence is everything.Midfield looked better with Mcginn in the middle.Stupid errors at the back are still troubling but a wins a win. Bailey and Pholegene are still a major issue, both lose the ball too easily create little and show poor defensive awareness, Emery must address this urgently.

Dave disappointed with Barkley when he came on, gave the ball away, that many times . Bidace not playing well since he came back, Bailey can do one good thing, the throws it away . Maybe I’m to fussy but I thought it was a lucky win, class first goal, peno only barely scored and the 3rd goal was offside, I was happy at half time with how we were playing but second half we we a shadow of the team we were in first half, we should of being putting them to the sword, at 3 nil down they would have to leave gaps, 1 of our problems is we can’t kill off games, how many chances we wasted.
But like you say Scot a win is a win, it might give us the confidence to improve and get out of this rut.

How on earth do you expect us to wrangle 8 or 9 top class players in 2 windows, I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t have money to spend in January, I suspect if we spend in January we will end up with a luiz situation in June.

I think we will do business in January but the amount will depend on who goes out the door. So I think Carlos will be on his way and Ramsey and or Buendia might also be leaving if all were to go then that combined with the additional funds from CL might allow us to bring 2 players in but if we try to sign players for big money without releasing one or two then PSR will undoubtedly come back to bite us. I wouldn’t be surprised though if we entered the loan market and try to recruit 1 or 2 that way. Anyone up for taking Dougie back from Juventus on loan?

I think the fancy term for it now is risk v reward in the old days I think it was the if you score three we will score more mentality, sometimes it works ie against Wolves sometimes it doesn’t but it does make for entertaining football.

So what about if we give Emery a free hit on the performances over the last eight games. We reset the clock starting Wednesday and judge him over the next eight games. By now even the most loyal fans must realise that this current set of players are not going to achieve what we did last year, however we should expect a change in the slow fruitless tactics that clearly aren't working. If after these next eight games nothing has changed, by which time we could be dragged in to the mire at the lower end of the table, should we then look for coaching change. Of course we can't decide this, but the owners might.

Scotty, I said last week our biggest problem is the slow pace that we are playing. Last season we pressed high, this season we are sitting back and letting teams come at us. It's not unais fault that so many players form has dipped but it is management's fault that the back up players aren't there. FFP isn't an excuse for wasting money on the likes of jaden. Ultimately unai will live and die by his sword.

I love to pop in occasionally to read the monumental meltdowns on this site when Villa under perform or are in a sticky period and today did not disappoint - People "losing faith" in Emery is probably my favorite but there were some other absolute gems.

LOTM had a brilliant post that I fully agree with - Emery is an elite manager who will get it right, performances as below par but we need some perspective as a fanbase. 8 games without a win in which:

1. We conceded a 96 min equaliser against Bournemouth and were denied a 95 min winner against Juventus in the CL - Harshly IMO, some may disagree.
2. Lost to Palace in a cup that nobody at the club gives two sh*ts about, including Emery (whether we agree with this or not as fans it's accurate)
3. Lost to Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool away, three teams that (whether we like it or not) are stronger in all departments than Villa and are expected to beat us at home despite the heroics from last year.
4. Lost an away CL fixture (our first and only so far this season) because of a shambolic mistake by Mings and the ref blowing for a penalty where many others would not have.

Yes we aren't playing fantastically well (today in particular was really poor by our standards) but some of the comments I've seen here and on social media are borderline comical and genuinely makes me think we don't deserve good things as a fanbase. If you don't think this club is moving in the right direction, despite being absolutely hamstrung by FFP restrictions that the clubs we are trying to catch aren't anywhere near as impacted by, then maybe football isn't for you. Please be patient, please trust the manager and get behind the players!

It’s been a very long time since I’ve posted on here but I must admit I do browse from time to time.
Anyway when I read your post BK I felt motivated to react. Well said that man, spoken like a true supporter.
I have absolutely no doubts at all that Villa will get through this low, and we’ll be flying high again before long.
In Unai we trust, at least most of us do anyway.
