Allegedly it's £35 million, and that's chicken feed for a player who's at the peak of his powers and a current international. If he had no clause in his contract, then I don't think we would be considering any bids less than £50 million. It also seems like PSG are interested in Digne as well, so it looks like plenty are heading for the exit door.

If these rumours are true, then maybe, just maybe, Rogers stays. Not sure who is the easier player to replace though; Tielemans' ability on the ball is second to none, and I don't see too many in the PL with the same skill set playing for teams not in the top six, the one exception maybe is Wharton at Palace.

And there's our big signing gone.

This could be a masterstroke, obviously he'll be missed, but £35M for a 29 y/o we paid £0 for, business. ??

Came to Villa on a free. Sold for £35m.
With Digne looking like he's going back to France, does this now take pressure off re: SCR/PSR?
Not really the way we want to do business, but until we get the stadium up to 55k plus, and the commercial side is bringing in regular massive amounts of revenue, it's the only way.

So, it more than balances the books, based on our purchases to date, probably gives us £20 million or so to play with, but that isn't going to get us very far. If we want to make other signings, we are going to have to shift others out the door, but hopefully squad players, not from the starting XI.

The funny thing is, if he had that £35M clause from when he signed the last contract extension, then, while we were qualifying for Europe & winning a cup = ?, the rest of the football world missed out for £35M when he was worth more during that period, close to double for how important a player he is/was for us.

My glass is half full on this 1, & if, from what I've heard, Digne is off for £8M & his £150k pw gone, it's more than half full.

We could have a problem very soon, and I'm normally fairly relaxed on these things.
We already needed a midfielder with Onana injured, and now there is a £15m shortfall between Tielemans and Manzambi, whilst still needing the Onana cover.
If Digne leaves for such a small amount, we need extra funds to replace him. Maatsen can't handle the full load himself (and he's rubbish).

Trying to use Pau or Mings as cover over there spells disaster.
If Martinez does leave fairly cheaply as well, then I think we are stuffed unless we sell Rogers to fund the shortfalls and his own replacement.
We already had a pretty thin squad. Selling 3-4 fringe players to cover one purchase is difficult; trying that multiple times is impossible.

Rk, we are looking good financially. I think we got around 25 million for Malen, then Enzo possibly 10-15 million, Youri 36 million, Digne 8 million. Dobbin looks like he's out the door for 9 million plus add ons, that's almost 100 million in incomings. Then you have all their wages gone, plus the wages of the loan players. As it stands, we are well in the clear.

We also have Gussand to sell. I'd offer Palace Gussand and 40 million for Adam Wharton.
Remember, incomings are divided up over the length of the contract, but outgoings come off straight away. Add in the Champions League money, and it could be a very exciting season if we spend well.
I am gutted Youri is leaving though, and especially to that lot.

Whack, the spread of the cost works for SCR, but not the player registration restrictions we were given for failing SCR the season before last. The restrictions also don't care about the wages either.
Assuming Manzambi is £50m and Estupinan is £20m, then we have £30m left if we don't sell more to replace Digne, and find another midfielder to allow all the new signings to be registered for Champions League.

We could find loans, but we also still need to replace the holes left by Elliott and Sancho leaving.
Assuming we effectively recoup the £35m for Guessand, we then have roughly £65m to replace 3 players plus 2 loans, 3 of those 5 players needing to be attacking players who tend to cost more.

13 Jul 2026 21:22:33
Agree, but I think we should look abroad for proven talent, Whack, cos prem prices are insane and overpriced.

I think Wharton would be ideal to replace Tielemans, given Anderson sets the benchmark in terms of size of fee. We won't get him for Guessand plus £40 million. I'm not sure we would get him for Guessand plus £60 million, particularly as Palace don't want to sell, and the player seems happy where he is.

Unfortunately, it seems likely that we are going to end up selling Rogers to fund 2-3 additional signings, given that most of the wide players we are being linked with seem to be north of £35 million. I can't help but wonder whether the Arsenal option of £100 million plus loans for Nwaneri and Lewis Skelly might be attractive, as it addresses 2 positions, albeit temporarily, but allows us to spend big on a Tielemans replacement.

Whatever happens next season will be a big test for Unai. He is going to have to begin the transition from an ageing, Dean Smith-heavy squad to one that's of his own making. To achieve that transition, and remain competitive with the financial restrictions we are operating under, will be an absolutely massive challenge.
