Recent National press post, "Only Southampton (17) have made more errors leading to goals than Aston Villa (12) this season, but Unai Emery believes his players will be better off for making them in the long run".
This has to stop, or we have little chance of any success this season and how long "is the long run" it's already been over six months if you include the last month's of last season.

This what I've been saying aswell scotty the stats don't lie we have been awfull this season and our defence is utter dog poo if we had a good defence we might of beaten lpool, we neec big changes in the summer aswell we could name probably 6or 7 that should be sold and i bet we would have the same names il still stand by what i said that unai has taken villa as far as we can go go i don't think we will win on trophy under him and this set up we have aswell if i'm wrong i walk dwn my street naked lol

Well if we aren’t going to win anything under Emery we certainly won’t be winning anything with anyone else in the near future, what he has achieved in the time he has been with us and given the financial restrictions he has had to operate under have been remarkable, and one things for certain I don’t see any replacement being able to attract players like Rashford or Asensio even if it’s only for the short term.

Oh come on lord there only at villa because no1 else wsnts them, there not worldclass anyway and are both on stupid wages, i wouldn't want us to sign both on them wages anyway,
I always thought good teams were built on strong defence he's been at villa nearly 3 yrs and we have one of the worst defences in the league and he hasn't sorted it out yet which is maddness he isn't the god that people make out on here in my opinion, if u compare the job eddie howes done to unai who has done the better job both same postion us when they took over and player for player who has the better 11 not us ncastles there transfers have been much better than ours, until we get a wclass dof and scouting setup we ain't going to win anything, look what roma fans and sevilla fans say about monchi they couldn't wait for him to leave the clubs, only time will tell but i might be proven wrong but doubt it

Jonny, lots of sense in what you say, the main thing that will stop us progressing is our defence, the stats are indefensible to even the most one eyed claret and blue tinted brigade. As I posted the stats don't lie.

21 Feb 2025 22:10:42
Drum will never be worn out daz, can't understand that people don't think we have gone bckwards because were still in CL, Well when nxt seasons come wots going to every1s excuses then when were not in europe and still performing the same

Erm, give me the Villa squad over Newcastle's any day of the week. Isak, Bruno and Gordon are good players but I don't think anyone else makes a particularly strong case for taking a spot in our team.
Howe has only ever been a manager that can get a team playing well in short bursts. Like Ange, he can't keep a team fit when playing more than 1 game per week.

Drum won’t wear out Daz I’m afraid a few on here have short memories and are only happy running down the team.

Jonny, whilst what's happening defensively I hope your drum beats stronger, I have said whilst Emery is a good coach, something has to change or his legacy will be, great two seasons worst defence unable to compete at the top level. This season has made the last sentence 100% correct, stats are there for all to see.

Hall, livamento, botman
Bruno guimares, joelington
Gordon, isak all walk into our side
Only emi, bouba, rodgers get into ncastles side.

Lord last seasons in the past you don't look back its now that's counts and its not good enough, anyway let's see where we finish in the league, and if we win fa cup or champions league which ain't going to happen fa cup we have a chance maybe .so people will be happy then if we finish 9th where we are now then and think unai done a great job, so in 3 seasons 7th 4th 9th that's not progress 1st two is, were aston villa supposed to be a big club yet some people are happy being midtable shipping goals in left right and centre, might aswell give unai a free pass then for this season and nxt season aswell, i know i won't what hope have we got if we can't do the basics right, i don't know what matches some of you watch and i'm not being disrespectfull aswell even against lpool they could of batterd us missed 3 sitters yes we had chances aswell, people on here must think i'm a negative person but i'm not at all i just say it how it is , i want villa to be where we should be and that's top6, we so under performing this season its unreal signs were there thou in preseason we couldn't keep clean sheets aswell but didn't think much of it because there friendlys

You must be a secret Newcastle fan jonny because I reckon 80-90% of Villa fans would disagree with that list other than the 3 I mentioned.
Not saying I wouldn't take the others as squad players but I'm not replacing the current starter with your suggestion. Liveramento would be the closest but Garcia stays if he can continue the way he has started.

Also jonny, we are a big club in terms of UK support, but we've been a mid table team on average for the best part of 40 years.
Liverpool won the league in 2020 and were 5th a couple of years later. They are now odds on to win it again. All clubs have ups and downs, outside of Arsenal, City, Liverpool I expect there to be lots of rotation of league position over the next few years in the battleground below.
Doug missed a lot of opportunities back in the 90s and early 00s. By not creating enough international interest and not building the stadium infrastructure while we maybe had a little more space, we have fallen behind.
Our owners are good, and have been creative, but bridging a 3-4x revenue gap is almost impossible. You can quote Brighton all you like but they have not finished above us since Unai came in.

If you base your managerial decisions purely on in season performance and past achievements count for nothing, then last season Newcastle would have ditched Howe and this season City would have pulled the plug on Guardiola. You have to look at progress for a club in the round not just based on first team performance important though that is. So using that as the yardstick, the club has increased its revenue streams, its squad is stronger, it has an elite coach in charge and in 6 years we have gone from EFL to CL add to that the football is more entertaining than it has been for a good while certainly then under Gerrard and, prior to Emery how often had we beaten the likes of Arsenal and City? In my view Emery has loads of credit in the bank. Don’t get me wrong Emery like all managers has a shelf life at the club but that’s nowhere near yet, and I am sure our owners will take the longer term achievements into account rather than base any decisions on the struggles we have at the moment.

Thats true but most ncastle fans want howe gone still there's a difference with pep thou he's won everything and deserves to rebuild that side, while villa we haven't won anything big difference there

Rk they probably will this season, if we had brightons scouting set up would be perfect at villa they always find gems
18.) 22 Feb 2025
22 Feb 2025 11:07:06
Yes jonny, Brighton are that good this season that they are still behind us despite us being as awful as you say we are.
Brightons scouting setup works for Brighton, all these gems they get can only take them so far. If you want to be 7th-10th every season then fair enough, our ambitions are to put foundations in place to consistently aim higher.

I don’t come on here very often these days as my thoughts and efforts are concentrated elsewhere now.
However for old times sake, I do read the posts on this forum from time to time.
It astonishes me that Unai gets the criticism he does here, considering where he’s taken the club in a short space of time. This season was always going to be complicated after having to sell Luiz and Diaby to comply with PSR, and that’s just for starters.
Onana, Luiz’s replacement has great potential but unfortunately has spent more time on the treatment table than he has on the pitch. I think it was Unai’s intention to play Kamara and Onana as a double pivot, which would have made life a lot more straightforward for the back four. Kamara has had
his fair share of injuries also, so I don’t find it that surprising that we have struggled defensively.
The added pressure of the UCL games, coupled with the injury problems, some of which I’ve mentioned, we’ve had, really hasn’t help matters. I think for the most part, Unai has tried to get the team playing conservatively to avoid burnout and further injuries.
This can be difficult, as it displeases supporters to watch this kind of football, especially after having been spoilt with the entertaining football we witnessed last season. Like it or not though, we are in the last 16 of the Champions league and the FA cup, with every chance of making the last 8 in both competitions. We are not that far off the Champions League places in the league either.
I know it must be frustrating for Daz, LOTM, RK, DBS, and maybe a few others to put up with the moaning and negativity that resides on this forum, but stick at it lads, I am confident the best manager we’ve had in decades, who to my mind has already achieved great things, will go to bring great success for our beloved club.

Rest on your Laurels and you won't improve. The owners bought Emery in to improve us and boy did he do that, however his style of play has become predictable and we have been found out and easy to play against. Every team can bemoan injuries, however that's football and we have to get on with it. I find it interesting that anyone can only take one side of a debate and criticise the very thing he is criticizing. I would really like to know if our league position and defensive woes continue next season will the positive crew mentioned be happy for it to carry on. I know for Sure me Jonny, Whack and other balanced follower's will not be accepting it.The word moaning is now one of the most used on here, how can anyone who likes debate not accept others views at face value, just like most of us do without resorting to insults and keep calling people moaners.

Good managers adapt mark, also good managers build from the bck, good managers have a good style of play could go on on, wot do you guys watch seriously you must be watching barcelona getting mixed up with our colours look at all the stats defence leading to errors, giving ball away, conceeding chances villa in bottom 6,scoreing goals is also dwn aswell were in minus so what does that tell you, we haven't been good since bck end of last season but because we are in champs league and in fa cup let's forget about it, wots going to happen when we get knocked out of both and are 9th or 10th can imagine it now villas had a great season that's what people will say on here.

Who is being overly positive all the time?
Bar the odd post just to pretend you don't always complain, it's laughable that you call yourself and jonny 'balanced'.
Going into to every game like a grumpy sod isn't going to help the team is it?
