So we have been linked with Harry Wilson and Julian Brandt for quite some time, both available on frees. According to reports both are now likely to sign for Leeds, in fact bookies have stopped taking bets on the Wilson move to Leeds.
If we can’t beat the likes of Leeds to these type of transfers, you have to wonder why, given we are a bigger club and have CL football to offer.
1.) 19 Jun 2026 20:19:36
The only thing I can think of is we were never looking for him and it was all just the usual bs from the papers, which isn't surprising, as the club don't advertise their business till it's done. Maybe with Champions League we are aiming for higher quality.
2.) 19 Jun 2026 20:26:22
I think if we wanted them then we'd beat Leeds to 'em. Wilson, I see as purely being cover for SJM. Brandt, I don't know too much about. I think we're gonna be pleasantly surprised by who we get in. Be nice to get some quality frees though.

3.) 19 Jun 2026 21:00:31
They're both old as well, though, with no resale value, and I agree we're most likely looking at younger, higher-level players.
4.) 19 Jun 2026 21:14:22
Not with the budget we have. I'm afraid we only have £100 million, and that has to be matched with £100 million worth of sales. So, Baturina, who we are linked with and is the right age profile; Como want £69 million!! And we don't know how he will adapt to the PL.
I'd rather take Wilson or Brandt on a free, and look at cheaper alternatives in either the Scandinavian or South American markets, like Bournemouth, Brighton, and Brentford do successfully.

I was just reading an article which confirmed what I think we all knew, which was last year our net transfer spend was amongst the lowest in the PL at circa £27 million; however, our spend on agents' fees was second highest, in excess of £38 million. It just goes to highlight the hidden costs in any club's transfer business. The sum is quite shocking, really.
1.) 06 Jun 2026 01:06:48
I saw that, Lotm, it's stomach turning, the only plus is that some of that went on contract extensions to some of our big players, and if any leave that signed a new contract, we will recoup all that money as players are worth more to us now with the longer contracts.
That 38 million would have been nice to add to our transfer kitty, though.
2.) 06 Jun 2026 11:58:35
Biggest scourge of football agents, not just the money they get, it's the problems they cause, upsetting players. When you see people not being able to come to games anymore because of increased prices, it galls even more when you see that kind of money agents are receiving. UTV

I think we all can agree that whatever happens, the squad will need refreshing come the summer, and I think the club is at a bit of a crossroads, and have two options. Option 1. Build a squad around Rogers. The consequence being we sell squad players, but given our financial position, our ability to spend big will be strictly limited and we will probably end up using the free transfer market for some acquisitions.
Option 2. We sell Rogers plus squad players which will give us more spending power and enable us to buy better players.
If I’m honest, I’m glad I don’t have to make the decision, as I’m not sure which way to jump.

Just had to put up with some stick from mates of mine who unfortunately are Chelsea fans and boy did they enjoy highlighting how bad we were on Wednesday. Not only did I have to put up with that grief, they then shared some information which is doing the rounds amongst Chelsea fans, so I thought I would share if nothing more than for a ?. Apparently Chelsea have agreed terms with Rogers representatives for a move in the summer, Villa are allegedly prepared to sell but want Nicholas Jackson as part of the deal.
The problem is the valuation placed upon the player by Chelsea is much higher than Villa’s. At the moment allegedly neither club is prepared to budge but the Chelsea lads are confident a deal will be done in time for next season.
1.) 07 Mar 2026 12:49:59
Don't fancy Jackson tbh, although I'd heard we were having 2nd thoughts due to issues with his temperament.
2.) 07 Mar 2026 14:14:39
Certainly not at £60 million which is what Chelsea value him at apparently!
3.) 07 Mar 2026 15:50:05
Didn't Chelsea fans claim the exact same thing last summer? I suspect Chelsea are the same as every other club, and don't tell fans about any transfers until there's actually something to tell them.
4.) 07 Mar 2026 16:36:41
Apparently Rogers is changing his agent and moving to the same one as Cole Palmer, and they are good mates. People may be putting 2 and 2 together to get 5, but we have a history of selling for big money, and Emery is confident stars can be replaced, so it wouldn't be a total surprise if this had some legs, but, as with all these things, time will tell.
15 Feb 2026 22:18:21
I have to hold my hands up and say when I heard we had signed Victor Lindelof I was seriously underwhelmed I thought he was slow had the turning circle of the Titanic and I couldn't see how he would fit into an Emery side. How wrong was I! Whilst he isn't the quickest he certainly isn't slow he reads the game well is good in the air and probably what I like the most is he doesn't try to do things he knows he can't so we don't have him trying to do Cryuff turns or playing 60 yard cross field passes he just keeps it simple and what he is good at.
In many ways you could argue he's been our most effective centre back.
1.) 16 Feb 2026 00:20:18
This season I thought victor and Ezri were our best paring, I know we lost the 3 guys in midfield but he lost his place around the same time and results have slipped. obviously not all because of him but I do believe it had some impact

I don’t know if any of you follow the ‘My Old Man Said’ the Villa Blog. If you don’t, have a look at the piece just written about the financial constraints we are operating under. If I am reading it correctly, because we breached UEFA financial rules last year and were fined, we now have to raise at least the same amount in sales as we spend, so the £100 million Nswe have given Emery cannot just be spent without commensurate sales.
I think the Malen and Barrenchea deals will have generated circa £31 million, so we will have to find a further £69 million from somewhere. No doubt other clubs are aware of the situation, hence the ridiculous offers for Martinez; they know we need the money.

I know it’s very early days in the World Cup, but USA looked really good against Paraguay. A well coached Poch team who moved the ball really quickly and created loads of problems for the opposition. In an excellent team performance, three players stood out for me, Balogun, McKennie and Pulisic, and if memory serves me right, we have been linked with all three in the past.
Arsenal have been looking for a centre forward for 2 or 3 years. Balogun looks a very good player to me. Don’t know why you would let him go.

So City have kicked the Transfer window off with £120 million bid for Anderson (£106m up front the rest in add ons). Surely that's the benchmark we use for any incoming bid for Rogers.
1.) 11 Jun 2026 01:35:13
Defo Rodgers is worth more than Anderson.
2.) 11 Jun 2026 08:29:14
All these massive bids can only help us, in either keeping Rodgers or getting top dollar.
Anderson has achieved very little yet compared to Rodgers: PFA Young Player of the Year, 25+ goal involvements in the last few seasons, Europa League winner and Player of the Tournament, playing in Europe every year.
3.) 11 Jun 2026 09:58:23
If he has a good World Cup, £150M minimum.

I know this is like playing Football Manager, but if the rumours are right about City wanting to take Rogers back, how about us taking Marmoush plus a cash adjustment and using that plus a chunk of the £100 million to sign MGW and Rashford? Ok we lose Rogers but in terms of the squad I think we would probably be stronger.
27 May 2026 21:09:20.
I see Barcelona have agreed terms for Anthony Gordon, Marcus Rashford back at Villa Park maybe?
1.) 27 May 2026 22:28:11
Id take him if he took a wage cut.
2.) 28 May 2026 18:09:48
It's a very odd signing for Barca, won't pay £25M for Rashford at his peak, but spend £70M on a headless chicken, whose most goals come from pens. ??♂️

It might be rubbish, but it might not, particularly if the conditions UEFA have allegedly placed on the club at the end of last season are as reported. Irrespective of the owners giving Emery £100 million to spend, he cannot do that without securing the equivalent sum by way of sales.
If we breach that, we risk a 3-year ban from European competition. So, we are faced with a difficult choice of either boosting our spending capabilities by selling Rogers, or facing a summer of limited spending, subsidised by 2 or 3 free transfers.
09 Jun 2026 10:33:03
I like Rashford, he is a good player, proven in the Premiership, and what's more Emery can get a tune out of him. If, as reported, he is willing to take a significant drop in salary and is available at circa £25 million, I would take him, particularly as players like Rowe and other wingers we are being linked with are only available at £35 million plus and none of those have shown they can cut it in the PL.
08 Jun 2026 22:17:56
Apparently Rashford has lowered his wage demands, and if we lose our 3 loan players that would more than cover Rashford's wage demands.
08 Jun 2026 18:18:32
The whole article on Martinez is rubbish. The salary he is supposedly on £230k is wrong, and although we do have certain SCR issues, by returning Sancho, Elliott, and Luiz we save circa £350k a week, and if the likes of Mings, Digne, Guessand, and Bailey leave, we will save a further £300-400k a week, so it's not the doom and gloom that certain media outlets are peddling.
Lord of the Mings's banter replies
02 Jun 2026 21:06:06
No, but we have SCR issues, unfortunately.
28 May 2026 15:58:54
I think the SCR issue is as big a problem as PSR. We are at the upper end of what we are allowed to carry, which is, I believe, circa 70% of income. In terms of outgoings, we are likely to struggle to shift the likes of Bailey and Mings on because of salary demands; both are on in excess of £100k, and I'm not sure teams will be willing to pay that for either of them.
25 May 2026 10:08:30
Whether Unai wins another trophy or not, we were heading for the Championship under Gerrard. City have achieved what they have achieved because they have been able to spend pretty much what they like, so they can attract the top players. Unai has achieved what he has, by spending next to nothing, effectively, with one arm tied behind his back.
In my opinion, where he has taken us from is remarkable in itself. I'm not suggesting he gets the send-off Pep gets, but whatever happens, I think we, as fans, should always be grateful, because we, as a club, will undoubtedly be in a stronger place for his tenure.
20 May 2026 17:29:17
I agree, Whack. I think we might get one, maybe two, big money signings, which will be funded by sales; the rest will be free transfers, I think. But, in fairness, some decent ones to be had if we can get them. The thing that may alter that, of course, is if Rogers goes.
10 May 2026 15:27:22
Whether we win or don't, this is another poor performance, I'm afraid.
