What is happening with the guy from Marseille?
Thought it was 99% done, only waiting for the player to accept terms.
Villa Boas now wants more, who doesnt?
They have signed Millik and now need money.
Will we go back with another offer?

Theoldvillan

{Ed002's Note - Marseille are waiting for an acceptable offer. It is nothing to do with AVB. It is also unrelated to Malik.}

1.) 22 Jan 2021 20:53:18
Hi Oldvillan, its Villa playing silly buggers, he is going cheap and we are trying to get him cheaper.
Pay them what they want, he is a good player and a bargain at the asking price.

2.) 22 Jan 2021 22:58:21
Need to get this wrapped up, pay the £15 million it’s not big money for a high quality player with his experience, I like marvellous and Ramsey but I’d like to have a higher caliber player there especially with maginn missing this week we look short on options, need to get Louie on the bench forget buying a striker, midfield is where the magic happens going forward and protecting the defence.

3.) 22 Jan 2021 23:01:04
Trying to take advantage of the situation. If it comes off and we get him cheaper, it’s a master stroke from Lange, if we miss out on him it’s needless bargaining. Can go two ways.

However the amount of times we’ve had our pants down in the past, I’d rather see us try and get the best deal, after all, there isn’t an endless pot of money.

4.) 23 Jan 2021 11:07:51
Looks like the deals been done at £14 million.

5.) 23 Jan 2021 11:16:20
It’s done. Well, the fee is agreed. But since Joe Bryan I don’t consider any deal done until the photo shoot.

6.) 23 Jan 2021 13:06:35
Very very good point woodsville! Well played Lange for judging the situation and getting the best deal possible for Villa.

With interest from MCFC, Liverpool, MUFC and Arsenal in Jack according to the media, do you think that our interest in Rashica should be stepped up?
His form so far this season has been pretty average by his standards.
Which alternatives are there out in the football world?
Dont think Messi would interested so who else might be willing to come to AV, of course if Jack goes?

Theoldvillan

1.) 27 Nov 2020 15:28:06
If Jack does go then I hope he goes to City as we could ask for John Sones as part of any deal with the remainder of the money I think we should tie up Ross Barkley on a permanent deal, in terms of a left sided midfielder I wouldn’t touch Rashica with a ten foot pole I would be more inclined to try for Zaha from Palace I know he doesn’t fit the age profile but I think he would be a good fit in terms of running at the opposition creating both chances and a goal threat. I would also look at a left back maybe Rico Henry or Ryan Sessegnon ( I know he is on loan but a good offer may persuade Spurs to let him go ) Inspite of all that though I would prefer it if Jack were to stay.

2.) 28 Nov 2020 00:08:46
Zaha’s attitude in every game I’ve seen him over the last two years has absolutely stank. He just wants to fight everyone, acts as though any foul on him is an attempt on his life. Tried to drag Konsa to the floor last season and then when he couldn’t tried to fight him as if Konsa had done something?

Don’t ask me why because I haven’t a clue but I saw Zaha play for palace against Southampton years ago. The year Southampton got promoted, it was at Selhurst Park, Ricky Lambert scored.

And I’ve always remembered right infront of where we were sitting, someone played a pass to zaha, which was probably two foot infront of him, because it wasn’t to feet which is how he wanted it, he literally let it go out for a Southampton throw in, to make a point. From there I’ve always thought he was a bit of an idiot to put it nicely, but the last few years he’s took it to a new level.

Traore confirmed this morning.
Reported on ski.

1.) 19 Sep 2020 08:55:15
Must of read my post yesterday and decided to pull their finger out 😁 also apparently Origi available for £14m certainly worth a punt? Can play centrally or wide and would improve our forward options.

2.) 19 Sep 2020 12:27:21
Good shout Moose, a bargain at that price.

3.) 19 Sep 2020 13:26:03
For 14 million I’d b all over that moose.

4.) 19 Sep 2020 13:37:10
Apparently the BBC are saying Traore is our last bit of business this window unless a “unexpected opportunity” presents itself.

5.) 19 Sep 2020 16:51:57
Utter hogwash, how do they know what our transfer business entails?

6.) 19 Sep 2020 18:57:12
I hope it’s hogwash too Moose, but we seem prepared to accept the rumours they print on the players we are looking to sign quick enough!

7.) 19 Sep 2020 19:42:40
All paper BS, but we follow it anyway in our quest for all things Villa- me included! But we always keep our cards close to our chests, did anyone know anything about the Traore link til it was common knowledge?
We're a bloody impatient bunch 😁.

14 Jan 2020 08:44:37
Glenn Murray for £500000.
He knows where the goal is and use's his brain.
Probably better than any of our strikers, even when they were fit.
Deano lost in jungle of rumoured players, players available, players willing to come to VP.
Are we still being threatened by FFP?
If not why don't the owners do what Man City did and spend the money to get us where they want us to be, top 6 and Euro football.
OR are they waiting to dump Deano to get an international manager before they spend big?

Theoldvillan

07 Jan 2020 15:33:02
Drinkwater on loan.
This means that we cannot get Batman or Giroud on loan as we have the one from Chelsea we are allowed.
Glenn Murray from Brighton would be a good buy for little money. Scores for fun but only in the champs. Will he work in the prem?
Why are we looking at a guy who has scored 2 goals this season?
We need a goal machine now!
Options will expire if we don't action now.
C'mon Deano, show me your intent!

Theoldvillan

{Ed002's Note - There was never any chance of Giroud or Batshuayi moving to Aston Villa on loan - Giroud will be leaving but only has six months left on his contract.}

1.) 07 Jan 2020 19:26:50
We can still sign them permently thou.

When City come to VP, do you think that Grealish will get pleasant welcome back?
One player I remember getting a heroes welcome after being transferred was Bruce Rioch. I think he went to Derby, but when he came back he went straight to the Holte and was welcomed back. The crowd as one chanting "King of Villa park. "
Now, unfortunately, I can't see Grealish being welcomed with anything other than abuse.
Shame as he is one of our own but he seems to have failed to learn humility.

Theoldvillan

1.) 03 Sep 2021 13:55:38
The way he left, definitely left a sour taste in the mouth with everything that came out about the release clause and him being devastated the Spurs move collapsed. Felt a bit like the wool had been pulled over the fans eyes for a while with the whole “my club, my city” bs and all that about believing in the vision. Had that been it I think he would have got a muted reception with pockets of applause around the ground.

Everything he’s said since leaving, crapping all over his ex team mates, manager and the club in general. The arrogance in his interview last night and his tone when talking about the release clause, the pause and gasp when he realised he said something he shouldn’t, I think he’ll get a worse reception than Delph did and he’s brought it all on himself.

2.) 03 Sep 2021 14:41:01
But what he actually said was that he had the release clause put in, and it was upto him to perform upto such a level that teams were willing to activate it, which of course he did. It was a win win for Villa, our star player was pushing himself to improve, the team benefitted on the pitch and then we got the cash. You'd all be moaning if he did an "Ozil and Aubameyang" signed his bumper deal and then didn't put the effort in afterwards. He didn't do anything wrong!

3.) 03 Sep 2021 15:55:37
If you can’t see why people would be annoyed at him putting in a release clause, then saying the things he did afterward, then maybe it’s better to wind your neck in and not tell people how to feel on a situation or how they would theoretically react to random examples your throwing in the mix.

4.) 03 Sep 2021 17:22:34
I think this is one of those events which tend to polarise opinions, but for me I am more in the Btw camp. I don’t think Jack has done anything wrong by inserting a release clause in his contract he has protected his own position as a professional footballer who wants to win trophies but he has also protected the clubs best interests in maximising the fee we received for his services. The days where players stay with club from cradle to grave are long since gone with a few notable exceptions, and let’s not forget when clubs want rid of players they do so without batting an eyelid so the question of loyalty is one which cuts both ways.

5.) 03 Sep 2021 17:30:42
The release clause isn’t an issue, insisting on it then saying “my club, my city. blah blah blah” “I’m so excited about the future here” “I really believe in the vision” “this clubs going places and I can’t wait to captain it there”, a month before leaving “I love playing here”. It’s all the BS he said following said release clause that causes the ill feeling.

Benteke showed everyone how to leave with best wishes, signed a new contract every summer with a simple “I can’t wait for the new season, excited to be back at Villa park”, everyone knew where they stood about a month after the season finished, for three seasons in a row, before the press could start to put too much weight behind different rumours.

If a random bloke from Belgium can do it, is it too much to ask from “one of our own”?

6.) 03 Sep 2021 21:48:53
Hahaha, wind my neck in?! A balanced view is what I've got! Have you never been courted in your career by another company offering you a quicker route to your long term aspirations? The proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, be it money, England caps, self improvement. Maybe you're just not that good?

7.) 03 Sep 2021 22:34:18
Not that good at what? 😂 I’m guessing you’ve never been told not to assume, your doing it quite a lot.

The whole job analogy doesn’t work, no one claims to have a long standing love or affection for their job, so leaving them doesn’t relate to this in anyway. Think before you speak, if you don’t understand the argument then don’t get involved. It’s better to have everyone think your a moron than to open your mouth and confirm it👍.

8.) 04 Sep 2021 05:37:39
Chris, isn't being a professional footballer a career then? Perhaps you should change your user name to "Old Faithful" Going back to your Benteke comparison, He got us confused with Arsenal and thought Villa were in London, handed in a transfer request and then withdrew it when we offered him more cash, then left the following season anyway. Not exactly a great example was it.

9.) 04 Sep 2021 09:18:05
Keep confusing yourself, of course being a professional footballer is a career, but as I said, playing for your boyhood team at the highest level is completely different to any run of the mill job you have no other affiliation to other than it paying your wage. 9 times out of 10 an employee does more for the company than they do for them, but different to helping someone from the age of 6👍

And don’t make stuff up to back your point up, it completely ruins any debate, Benteke didn’t think villa was in London

Quite an anti climax before the door slammed shut.
The new signings look good on paper but need to show us the goods on the pitch.
My disappointment is the failure to bring in the ball winner at the back.
I am sure that we all noted that on Saturday Toney was free of any defender when he scored.
Who was meant to be marking him?
So many goals shipped through naive marking.
Smith seems to be hailing Sansom as the bargain and he is now fit to join the match day squad.
Overall a report of could do better but tried hard would best sum up the window.
I am waiting to see what the full squad will do when it matters and look forward to an improvement on last seasons final place.

Theoldvillan

1.) 01 Sep 2021 11:42:41
I think we needed a ball playing hiding midfielder TOV - Bissoma the obvious option, albeit and very ambitious one. My concern isn't as our inability to win the ball back but how easily we lose it when we do, that's why I think the club were pushing so hard for JWP. This for me is a gap in the squad, which is such shame considering the strength in other areas.

2.) 01 Sep 2021 12:34:46
Transfer window gone, can't change anything now so we have to move forward. We are definitely lacking in midfield but we have to work with what we have. Sansom, Nakamba and Luiz seem to be some of Deano's answers and whilst many of us have questioned these players, we have to be fair and give time for Deano to find his best team. i'm prepared to give it till October for things to work out before commenting further if things aren't going well and whilst i have concerns that i don't think our all round package is good enough to compete with the top eight, I'm hoping that Deano knows best, deep down though i don't think he does.

3.) 01 Sep 2021 14:22:29
Is that another way of saying “I hope I’m wrong” Scott? 😂.

4.) 01 Sep 2021 14:28:23
Ov a fair school report sir. I think sansom needs some games to prove his worth. I says let's cut him some slack, remember how vertout was hounded out and now he's showing how good he is. For a dm I would like to see axel in there or in a back 3. Still in Dean we trust.

5.) 01 Sep 2021 15:18:41
Sadly i think i'm probably right, rather than hope i'm wrong Chris 😔.

6.) 01 Sep 2021 15:29:58
Scottcaffu? Is that the same negative Scotty from Twitter? Come on guys let’s have some positivity and get behind the Villa and esp Dean Smith ( yes we know you don’t like him Scotty) we are well capable when we have a fully fit squad of finishing in the top half and when everyone has gelled maybe challenging the top 8. Ollie and Ings playing in a diamond front four with Buendia and Bailey will bring many goals and I think a back two of McGinn and Dougie behind them will link up well and eventually produce clean sheets. With El-Ghazi, Carney, Traore, Bidace, Young etc on the bench what’s not to get excited about. Up the Villa.

7.) 01 Sep 2021 17:00:32
One of the posters on here and for the life of me I can’t remember who, may very well have hit the nail on the head when they said the owners have only sanctioned the spending of the Grealish money to see how the team progresses before backing the current management team with significant additional funds to invest in the team. I am a big Dean Smith fan but this season is a very big one for him I remain optimistic about what the squad can achieve but if things aren’t going well come December time it wouldn’t surprise me if his position was under serious threat.

8.) 01 Sep 2021 18:48:00
As I said a few weeks ago that my sources had advised that our incoming transfer business was completed for this window.
I know we made enquires about several players a central defensive midfielder another striker and another winger / attacking midfielder but we’d set our value other clubs didn’t agree and therefore no deal agreed.
My sources tell me that the transfer policy is simple if we can’t get the identified player the for the valuation then Villa will not buy or go and get 2nd best.
JWP is a prime example we wanted him we valued him at what we believed was a fair market value Southampton said no we didn’t return that was the end of the search.
Will Hughes was mentioned in the press we never looked at him it was pure speculation he is an example of second best and I dint blame Villa for buying second best just to fill the squad and keep you guys happy.

31 Aug 2021 19:02:28
Not long to go till the door closes.
4 hours and no "ins"
How do we feel about our lack of action?
Smith said we are done and that seems to be the case.
I am still hopeful of a no nonsense defender but alas. More likely to see my numbers come up in the lottery.
Disappointed oldvillan.

Anguissa gone to Napoli on loan, surely we could of got in there 🤷🏼‍♂️

UTV.

30 Aug 2021 12:50:29
As a group of people who have possibly played in every position on the park, I ask the question "are we 100% happy with the transfer window both in and out? "
I feel that we have covered the front of the team with pace, guile and goal threat. But at the back the team is still questionable.
We lack bite at the back, someone who is hard but fair. A bully who can frighten even his grandma.
Someone to read the game and be where needed. A bit like Paul McGrath.
Regularly we are linked with a defensive midfield player but it seems that the world and his dog are all in before us.
Smith or Lange is relying on Sanson being the answer.
Who is making the decision on who we buy?
Does Smith have the final say after we have pinpointed our target or is Lange at the start and the end?
Attack is the best form of defence so it is said, however if there is no one at the back we become vulnerable and rely on Martinez to come to the rescue.
Personally I believe that we are only 80% done and we need to bring in a defender but he will not be what is expected.
A bully, a commander, a man of steel a dominator who will give as good, or better, than he gets.
Should we fail then I fear for Smiths job as it is he who will fall while Lange will remain.
Watford, Newcastle and Brentford and only 4 pts.
Many would have expected 6 or 7 pts.
Yes I know we have missed some players for various reasons but the team must learn to win without some of the stars.
Early season that must improve. Will it happen?

Theoldvillan

1.) 30 Aug 2021 17:51:06
I think u answered a few of the questions you asked OV, I agree I think we are 1 or 2 players away from a very successful window, this bully you desire I think will have to come in the shape of a DM because konsa or captain mings will 100% not be replaced, guys have mentioned axel as a DM but from what I seen of him on Saturday I’m glad he’s just a squad player, several mistakes under pressure, falling over, ball stuck under his feet, I thought he was quiet clumsy and the least assured of all our defenders, I simply cannot see how he could do a job in midfield, sarr is gone, bissoma is on Liverpool radar, there are a few other names going around but if we are going to buy it has to be an improvement on what we have or we are just wasting money and I think that’s exactly how management see it, I mentioned matic before I think he could do a job for a season or 2.
I like yourself would of liked 6 or 7 points on the board but the way things have went with injuries and C.V. I am glad the have 4 points, we have strengthened up front but they are yet to really click and yet to have our best available to play together imo, Brentford had 2 shots on target, Newcastle had similar, I’m not to worried about our back 4 to be honest, I think we got a wake up call against Watford and we have improved since, we have more goals in us once we click I’m 100% sure of it.

2.) 30 Aug 2021 18:32:45
Two very good posts here Gents, agree with you both👍.

27 Aug 2021 10:59:44
Wesley medical at Brugge.
Will he ever come back to VP?
WE have a shed load of young strikers in the club. Some are out on loan, some are still at VP.
Question is will the lads who are elsewhere get disenchanted at wearing a different shirt and choose to go where they will get a chance of first team football?
Great to have so much talent but if they are not playing .
What would you do if your employer kept bringing in younger people who want your job?
Easy to say that you would give a bit more and get better but you could be at your limit.

Theoldvillan

1.) 27 Aug 2021 18:05:28
I would like to see him given another run in the team but with Watkins and Ings clearly 1st and 1st choice and barring injuries to either or both of them (fingers crossed) his opportunities will surely be limited especially with the young guns waiting in the wings, providing we don't loan them all out.

Hi John,
It would appear that he has the same malaise re management that some of us have.
In the mid 50's a lad from Dudley was sent away from VP because he was a very big lad, and he was!
Played for England after a couple of years. Played for Man Utd.
His name Duncan Edwards.
Great loss after the Munich air crash in 1958.

WE have £24m from the monies stated for getting players into the squad.
Benrahma could be an option at a fare price if Franks would accept £24m.
Generally fees are ridiculous so one last push may secure a player that is/ was coveted by Deano and many on this site.
He is imaginative, quick and scores. What more do we want?
Watkin was a chance that proved right.
Surely worth a dip into the coffers.

Dd82 Absolutely right.
The middle of the park is all covered with strong youth.
The front of the park is well sorted, lots of money spent.
However we still look weak at the back.
Too many times opposition players are left alone and strike at goal.
Our teams future is bright, but my fear is that we are vulnerable to through balls the way the team sets up.
Cant help it. That's what I see.

Mark, 3 at the back does it for me every time.
It gives us the freedom to drop 2 back when pressured.
Someone pointed out that El Ghazi failed to help out against Watford but who would want him at the back?
Both Cash and Targett feel comfortable as they have little competition for their places so going to a 3 could put their noses out.
There are a lot of options in the middle of the park so Smith has to sort out how he sees the team playing.
Watkins and Ings will be formidable provided they get the service.
I look forward to the team gelling and getting the goals that are in waiting to be scored.
