What is happening with the guy from Marseille?
Thought it was 99% done, only waiting for the player to accept terms.
Villa Boas now wants more, who doesnt?
They have signed Millik and now need money.
Will we go back with another offer?

Theoldvillan

{Ed002's Note - Marseille are waiting for an acceptable offer. It is nothing to do with AVB. It is also unrelated to Malik.}

1.) 22 Jan 2021 20:53:18
Hi Oldvillan, its Villa playing silly buggers, he is going cheap and we are trying to get him cheaper.
Pay them what they want, he is a good player and a bargain at the asking price.

2.) 22 Jan 2021 22:58:21
Need to get this wrapped up, pay the £15 million it’s not big money for a high quality player with his experience, I like marvellous and Ramsey but I’d like to have a higher caliber player there especially with maginn missing this week we look short on options, need to get Louie on the bench forget buying a striker, midfield is where the magic happens going forward and protecting the defence.

3.) 22 Jan 2021 23:01:04
Trying to take advantage of the situation. If it comes off and we get him cheaper, it’s a master stroke from Lange, if we miss out on him it’s needless bargaining. Can go two ways.

However the amount of times we’ve had our pants down in the past, I’d rather see us try and get the best deal, after all, there isn’t an endless pot of money.

4.) 23 Jan 2021 11:07:51
Looks like the deals been done at £14 million.

5.) 23 Jan 2021 11:16:20
It’s done. Well, the fee is agreed. But since Joe Bryan I don’t consider any deal done until the photo shoot.

6.) 23 Jan 2021 13:06:35
Very very good point woodsville! Well played Lange for judging the situation and getting the best deal possible for Villa.

With interest from MCFC, Liverpool, MUFC and Arsenal in Jack according to the media, do you think that our interest in Rashica should be stepped up?
His form so far this season has been pretty average by his standards.
Which alternatives are there out in the football world?
Dont think Messi would interested so who else might be willing to come to AV, of course if Jack goes?

Theoldvillan

1.) 27 Nov 2020 15:28:06
If Jack does go then I hope he goes to City as we could ask for John Sones as part of any deal with the remainder of the money I think we should tie up Ross Barkley on a permanent deal, in terms of a left sided midfielder I wouldn’t touch Rashica with a ten foot pole I would be more inclined to try for Zaha from Palace I know he doesn’t fit the age profile but I think he would be a good fit in terms of running at the opposition creating both chances and a goal threat. I would also look at a left back maybe Rico Henry or Ryan Sessegnon ( I know he is on loan but a good offer may persuade Spurs to let him go ) Inspite of all that though I would prefer it if Jack were to stay.

2.) 28 Nov 2020 00:08:46
Zaha’s attitude in every game I’ve seen him over the last two years has absolutely stank. He just wants to fight everyone, acts as though any foul on him is an attempt on his life. Tried to drag Konsa to the floor last season and then when he couldn’t tried to fight him as if Konsa had done something?

Don’t ask me why because I haven’t a clue but I saw Zaha play for palace against Southampton years ago. The year Southampton got promoted, it was at Selhurst Park, Ricky Lambert scored.

And I’ve always remembered right infront of where we were sitting, someone played a pass to zaha, which was probably two foot infront of him, because it wasn’t to feet which is how he wanted it, he literally let it go out for a Southampton throw in, to make a point. From there I’ve always thought he was a bit of an idiot to put it nicely, but the last few years he’s took it to a new level.

Traore confirmed this morning.
Reported on ski.

Theoldvillan

1.) 19 Sep 2020 08:55:15
Must of read my post yesterday and decided to pull their finger out 😁 also apparently Origi available for £14m certainly worth a punt? Can play centrally or wide and would improve our forward options.

2.) 19 Sep 2020 12:27:21
Good shout Moose, a bargain at that price.

3.) 19 Sep 2020 13:26:03
For 14 million I’d b all over that moose.

4.) 19 Sep 2020 13:37:10
Apparently the BBC are saying Traore is our last bit of business this window unless a “unexpected opportunity” presents itself.

5.) 19 Sep 2020 16:51:57
Utter hogwash, how do they know what our transfer business entails?

6.) 19 Sep 2020 18:57:12
I hope it’s hogwash too Moose, but we seem prepared to accept the rumours they print on the players we are looking to sign quick enough!

7.) 19 Sep 2020 19:42:40
All paper BS, but we follow it anyway in our quest for all things Villa- me included! But we always keep our cards close to our chests, did anyone know anything about the Traore link til it was common knowledge?
We're a bloody impatient bunch 😁.

14 Jan 2020 08:44:37
Glenn Murray for £500000.
He knows where the goal is and use's his brain.
Probably better than any of our strikers, even when they were fit.
Deano lost in jungle of rumoured players, players available, players willing to come to VP.
Are we still being threatened by FFP?
If not why don't the owners do what Man City did and spend the money to get us where they want us to be, top 6 and Euro football.
OR are they waiting to dump Deano to get an international manager before they spend big?

Theoldvillan

07 Jan 2020 15:33:02
Drinkwater on loan.
This means that we cannot get Batman or Giroud on loan as we have the one from Chelsea we are allowed.
Glenn Murray from Brighton would be a good buy for little money. Scores for fun but only in the champs. Will he work in the prem?
Why are we looking at a guy who has scored 2 goals this season?
We need a goal machine now!
Options will expire if we don't action now.
C'mon Deano, show me your intent!

Theoldvillan

{Ed002's Note - There was never any chance of Giroud or Batshuayi moving to Aston Villa on loan - Giroud will be leaving but only has six months left on his contract.}

1.) 07 Jan 2020 19:26:50
We can still sign them permently thou.

Has Shakespeare taken over?
Its a "Comedy of Errors. "
Short passes, static players and mistakes all over the park.
Looks exactly like last season.
I don't care who says we are better than last season. If you take away the games before Christmas there is no change.

1.) 04 Apr 2021 17:44:17
Agree mate, it’s painful watching it’s such a waste of our great start.

2.) 04 Apr 2021 18:04:10
I am getting a bit fed up of Mings making poor mistakes, he believes that now he is in the England squad he is a class player, sorry you have to prove it week in week out.

24 Mar 2021 15:04:08
Had a chuckle today reading that Jack has received offers from several areas.
Now this makes one look carefully at where and how much.
Apparently Jacks next decision is whose boots he wears.
If only I had such massive decisions to make but Mrs OV ensures that I don't have to make them as she tells me which shoes I am going to wear.
Happy wife happy life.
Brightest point today. I had jab 2 and in 3 weeks I should be able to go out properly.
Down the chippy, sit on the seafront with a drink. Watch the tide come and go.
Next week the golf course opens so some regular exercise is on the books.
I feel released from H, M, P.

Theoldvillan

1.) 24 Mar 2021 15:24:33
Hi Oldvillan, glad you are both well, and well done on your C.V. part 2.
I think you will find mate, that you will still have to wear a mask, and socially distance, plus avoid crowds and and poorly ventilated places.
Sorry mate, but that`s how it will be for a while.

2.) 24 Mar 2021 19:38:15
The golf course is the safest place in the world. No masks.
We all stay apart, don't touch anybody and never touch other players balls.
Fresh air, exercise and company.
Could even win 20p.
Cant wait.
Ooh forgot. Could lose 20p. Damn.
Dave stay well keep the family well, keep to the rules and we may be allowed into VP next season.

{Ed001's Note - was it normal to touch each other's balls on the golf course then previously? Makes me glad I never got into golf now!}

3.) 24 Mar 2021 21:48:42
Ed, Short Expo
Sometimes.

{Ed001's Note - that explains why Ed666 has developed this sudden fascination for the game then.}

4.) 25 Mar 2021 03:19:22
Spoils a good walk, Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - I would agree but I was never much into walking either, unless taking the dogs out. All that lovely green land that only a privileged few can use, while the rest of us have to make do with a little park a 20th of the size!}

5.) 25 Mar 2021 19:01:32
Interesting that Ed.
A season ticket probably costs more than golf club membership, and you still can't get use the grass.

{Ed001's Note - fair point, but you are not paying for players and staff to 'entertain' you for 90 minutes 19 times a season. Football is a show like going to the theatre or cinema, rather than a participatory sport. A better comparison would be renting 5/6 a side pitches etc. It is just annoying that kids have very few options to play football, yet there is huge areas of grass like that being wasted on a bad walk.}

6.) 25 Mar 2021 22:06:44
I would argue that you would have a better chance of being entertained at the St Andrews in Scotland than the St Andrews in Birmingham though Ed. 😂.

{Ed001's Note - I can't stand golf but I would still have to agree with you on that!}

7.) 25 Mar 2021 22:44:37
Absolutely Ed, I was talking about that very thing a couple of weeks ago, the nearest pitches to where we live are about 6 miles away, where our Grandson plays.
Other than that you would have to Google it to find any results, there are green fields and waste land all over the place where we live, its shocking really.

{Ed001's Note - it's wrong. The FA don't do enough. They should be buying up land to turn into child-friendly areas. Put in places for whole families to go around football pitches and keep the game strong for generations to come.}

21 Mar 2021 22:03:15
Well, just what did we learn tonight?
The players on the pitch all seem lazy. I don't mean they don't run, they just don't run in the right direction.
Players fail to put themselves into position to help players distribute the ball.
There is a failure to own the ball, too frequently due to poor first touch players lose the ball.
Without Grealish they look lost boys in a fog.
If he goes next season who could blame him?
We should already have a replacement in the house but NO, we have nothing.
Who was the lad that went to Coventry? He decided that they were more appealing than Villa Park.
Its not just missing Jack.
We don't have a pitch leader, a fighter who wants to win every ball.
We have some very nice chaps who look quite handsome with big smiles.
We don't have the miserable git who demands more. One who would kick his grandma if needed.
This year we are safe but other teams that we get measured against look like passing us during the run in.
Lets not be another Sheff Utd, that's all too easy.
Lets be like Man City and strive for the top not mediocrity.

1.) 22 Mar 2021 08:05:44
O’Hare is the answer, haven’t heard that one in a while, cheered me right up on a Monday morning😂.

2.) 22 Mar 2021 08:14:21
Oldvillain, what we learnt tonight is that we are lacking in many areas. We have lost the ability to attack at pace, quick incisive passing from front to back. We casually play across the back, dink it in to midfield and then pass it back. Backwards and sideways is how we are playing now. That coupled with the fact that we have some very average players who can't play that way shows our true ability. Good teams need good players and players who can work round losing the star player. I'm afraid that we have too many who are just average. As much as I have reservations about Barkley, he must be wondering how can he not get in that side. The whole midfield is lethargic, Ollie is running round like a headless chicken, Trez is championship at best, Traore is half hearted. I could go on. What I'd like to see for the rest of the season is some young blood put in, Barry, Bidace, Chumba, lads who want to show what they've got.

3.) 22 Mar 2021 14:15:43
Old Villain, exactly what I said months ago, there ain’t a trophy for ‘nicest group f fellas’ or dare I say it ‘honest bunch of lads’ our back 4 is sound, it’s what’s in front of it that worries me, we need a younger version of Scott Brown, nasty, does his job and passes to a player with more technical ability, Luiz is not that man, neither is Nakamba, McGinn is playing doggo right now but is being played out of position imo. So for me, a midfield general is needed, McGinn to the left, Grealish to the right then any combo of 2 wingers and a centre forward, 1 winger and 2 centre forwards, a winger, a No10 and a striker, there's 3 options for our attack, if we want to change things up, Jack could be the No10 too. So summer shopping list for me is a proper defensive mid, Isaac Hayden for me if the barcodes go down or Dier if that’s a deal that’s possible, Milik who’s got a get out clause of €12M at end of the season (shoulda gone for him in Jan but hey ho 🙄) and even though he’s been getting some hate on here, Raschica is obviously a ruthless character, don’t have to like him, all I/ we should care about is winning, Mary Poppins ain’t going to get us trophies and European football

UTV.

4.) 22 Mar 2021 21:20:25
The players haven't at all been 'lazy'. There been a clear amount of effort but don't confuse laziness with lack of ability on the day. It's easy to call players lazy but that's definitely not the case.

20 Mar 2021 09:41:10
If MCFC come with £100m+ will we actually sell Jack Grealish and will he be happy to leave his AVFC?
Have we any player in the club that can take over from Jack?
With the sort of money we can expect who is there that we can buy?
Is Rasica a good fit? He is reported to be close to signing for AVFC.
Across the leagues are there young talented players that we could bring in and improve?
Jack has proved that we need him and that he is almost indispensable but we have to find a replacement.
Could we be really cheeky and go for Madison as he is probably the nearest to Jack?
I am sure that many of you are able to identify players from lower league teams that could do the job.
Harrison from MC is one that springs to mind. Benrahima, Raphina are others. All would cost a lot as if you have mega money clubs will ask mega money.
I know a lot on here follow the game across the globe, so, where are we going to find Jacks replacement?

Theoldvillan

1.) 20 Mar 2021 10:47:13
Some on here would of took half of that last summer, funny how much can change in a relatively short space of time.

I don’t think any of the players you have mentioned are either the same calibre or play the same role. Maddison is probably the closest in terms of level but he doesn’t play left wing, factor in that one he’ll be playing champions league football and two every chance he gets he shouts about how he’s a Cov lad and a Cov fan etc. So what would bring him to Villa?

Harrison - 27 Games - 6 Goals - 4 Assists
Raphina - 23 Games - 5 Goals - 5 Assists

Grealish - 22 Games - 6 Goals - 10 Assists

Selling Grealish leaves a huge hole that would be near impossible to fill, I said it last year and not many agreed, this year he’s gone up another level, only strengthens my point that we shouldn’t be selling him for any amount of money. The manager and the owners clearly know this, with the contracts etc he’s signed and being offered. Obviously European football is harder to turn down for him as each year passes but should we sell him, the owners would want astronomical money.

2.) 20 Mar 2021 11:16:36
I agree don’t sell him but if someone comes in for him with a chance to win trophies and triple his wages we can’t blame him if he wants to go!

3.) 20 Mar 2021 11:37:45
If it was to happen. we would never replace him directly but spread the cost on more, so maybe some like Todd cantwell, lookman and loftus-cheek. no like for like replacement but hopefully combination of all 3 could help to fill the void?

4.) 20 Mar 2021 12:11:53
IF Grealish were sold for that sort of money there's 2 ways to look at things-
1 with the fee and existing transfer funds we could realistically buy 2-3 top quality players that would improve the team overall and stop us being labelled a "one man team "
2 the existing top notch players we have ie Martinez, Konsa etc may look at his departure, the massive hole he would leave, and decide to be tempted elsewhere.
Obviously hoping this doesn't happen and we can add those quality signings that could realistically take us to the next level alongside Jack.
That being said IF he did leave it would be interesting to see what he could do managed by Pep and having world class players around him tho would rather see the same scenario at the villa (obviously minus the Pep equation, tho we can dream 😁)
It'll be an interesting summer.

5.) 20 Mar 2021 13:13:09
Immediate Champions League football guaranteed with a team capable of winning it, particularly with Jack in the side, will I think be too much to resist. Jack will be 26 going into next season, he will probably have 3 or 4 peak years, he is surely going to want to be playing in the biggest club competition in the world during those peak years. He is guaranteed that at City, it is a possibility at Villa, but that’s all it is. If the right offer comes in ( 100 million ) and Jack wants to go and test himself at those levels, I think the owners will take a pragmatic approach and allow him to leave.

6.) 20 Mar 2021 13:23:23
You don’t get to where they are letting your biggest assists go to your competitors and strengthen them significantly.

Two years ago it was a done deal Grealish to a regular top 4 side competing at the highest level. New owners came in and point blank refused to entertain the rapidly increasing offers from said team.

I can’t see this stance changing, judging from what they’ve done at Villa so far, and their history with the Bucks and in particular their handling of Giannis.

If he were to leave, it would be begrudgingly from the owners point of view, with the deal being most likely astronomical.

7.) 20 Mar 2021 20:55:33
I think your right Chris, absolutely no pressure to sell, owners will look at the last 5 games in particular and see what we are like without him, like you I think it would have to be a crazy amount for them to sell, I’m talking 150 million, he signed a new deal he’s tied down simple as. having jack in the team in my opinion is like having an extra player in games, and what’s more I think if we are to sell him we couldn’t be in the market for value for money signings we would have to buy a super star or 2 and money would disappear quiet quickly if of coarse we could convince them to join us. someone mentioned rachica above, he’s dirt he’s having a terrible season he’s not got a good attitude and he didn’t want us last year, I see no chance of that happening and if it does happen he won’t improve us 1 bit. we need to try buy a few players that find themselves on the fringes at big clubs like Martinez for example, we need a 30 goal striker before we can consider selling jack and being able to cope without him imo.

8.) 21 Mar 2021 09:44:34
The one single, biggest, reason we won't be able to replace him is he's a Villa fan. Loves the club and gives 100% everytime he wears the shirt.
An imported superstar talent just won't have that connection with the club and therefore won't be anywhere near what Jack does.
Fans will find it easier to criticise someone not considered to be one of their own.

12 Mar 2021 11:08:54
Chris Wilder has left Sheff Utd.
Now I feel sorry for him as last season SU played really well but this year they have failed to move on.
The story of SU is a lesson to be learnt by AVFC in so much as currently we are reflecting their achievements 2020/ 2021.
We have two ambitious owners and with their investment we should be ok.
To standstill in the prem you have to spend mega millions every year. If you don't you end up as AVFC did under that Yanker Lerner and this is what has happened at SU.

Theoldvillan

1.) 12 Mar 2021 11:26:44
Burnley might have something to say about that.

2.) 12 Mar 2021 17:54:15
There's a massive difference between us. Sheffield came up with a squad of Championship players who were a surprise package similar to Blackpool, Hull and Reading in the past. They then topped up the squad with average Championship players without a stand out player who could drag them through games.
We bought primarily Champions League players who needed time to gel and progress and have added the best of the Championship with further Champions League players.
Our owners won't pull the funding until we have a squad to compete consistently and the academy starts paying dividends.

WE have £24m from the monies stated for getting players into the squad.
Benrahma could be an option at a fare price if Franks would accept £24m.
Generally fees are ridiculous so one last push may secure a player that is/ was coveted by Deano and many on this site.
He is imaginative, quick and scores. What more do we want?
Watkin was a chance that proved right.
Surely worth a dip into the coffers.

Hello Dave, still believe in them especially after yesterday.
Where is the boss man at the back?
Find it all very depressing.
Our manager is failing all over the pitch.
He could have got the players he bought in for the price of drinks down the local.
Many of the players that were told to go could have still been with us when you compare what we have.
Abraham is what we need but alas .

I live in the south and this story has a lot going for it locally.
Another story is that the deal is almost done that if we don't get promoted then Jack will be in white next year.
I have told my Spuds mates that he is too good for them.
They tell me that he's not worth £20m.

Many Spuds fans have car reg N17. see if you spot one.

Theoldvillan

{Ed001's Note - Pochettino would love to sign Grealish. The only thing that has stopped it happening is that Levy would never agree the asking price or payment terms.}

Win at the cow shed and we go above BCFC.
Forest and Hull play each other so again a win at the cow shed and we can be in 8th.
GD better than Derby who play Wigan and Wednesday and the way they are going they could lose both so we could go 7th.
Lets believe
Our talisman is back, and did we see a more advanced roll for Hourihane?
Mathematically we are ok, we can make it. Every season we have a dip in form and then we rally.
This season is no different.
WE CAN DO IT, BELIEVE! I DO.

What has happened to the friendly banter that we used to have?
If you don't agree just say so.
Biggest problem with all social media is that people hide behind the fact that no one can see them, they are anonymous.
Most of the comments that cause offence would not be done to the victims face for fear of a quick slap
Posters have left this site because of aggressive replies, comments.
Shame on the cowards who hide behind their chosen fictitious name.
Fortunately I am not a victim but nevertheless I am off.

Er tonges werkin so ers appy.

Dave, you and yours stay safe and if we are still here in a few years time perhaps we will celebrate the big trophy.

Now a totally true story for you.
I turned down a ticket for the Euro cup final as each game I went to that season Villa lost,
Still got the programme with the programme from Arsenal when we won the First division.
How bloody stupid can you get.
My mate floated home and told me I missed a great game.
I watched on tele, another mate recorded it on Betamax, and when we scored I ran into the garden shouting and Mrs Ov asked who had scored.
Betamax, now that's a story.
Never watched the video as we all went VHS. It is still in its box, unviewed.
Now couldn't watch, we might lose!
