So, four wins from four and an improving mood in the fanbase and, by the looks of it at Villa Park as well. It would drive a person mad to try and work out what's changed pre and post the Bologna game. In truth it doesn't really matter. Drive, zip and energy are back. Or at least coming back. Not perfect but plenty of improvement.

Regards to today, 100% agree that we could and should have been out of sight by the time they scored. But we saw it out and that's what matters. Shout out to Malen, two cracking finishes. Shout out to Bogarde for continuing to grow into being a starter. And shout out to Rogers, our second goal was him at his best. Find him in space, let him run at them, then pick the key pass.

Good to see Barkley back.he is very underrated for us (injuries have not been kind). And Onana as well.wrap him in bubble wrap between now and the Spurs game.

Hopefully the next two weeks will get Mings, Youri and Garcia back.

Was Sancho left out because he was still sick / ill? Does anyone know?

Don’t want to see mings anywhere near the squad makes the whole team negative. Keep super pau at the heart of defence stepping into midfield spraying those passes around.

Probably threw his dollies out SV and how long is Elliott going to keep quiet.

Tom you hate of Mings and love affair with Pau, is becoming very embarrassing. Personally Iv always been in the Mings camp, but even so Iv stated how well Pau has played, the last couple of games UTV

Hi Tom didn't you say sell Torres andMcGinn a few weeks into the season?

All fair critique regarding last night. To provide a contrasting view, some positives.

1. We won. Finally.

2. We changed formation last night. Despite what the lazy BBC were showing, Emery set up 4-4-2. When we had the ball Malan and Rogers were the front two, when we were kicking long from goal Guessand was up with Malan. A subtle change, but a change none the less.

3. Bizot's long ball distribution was good.

4. Torres played well, both defensively and in moving the ball forward. There was a lot less sideways slowness last night.

5. Kamara was excellent. Buendia probably my MOTM #2.

6. Rogers DID break the gameline several times during the match, more than he has in any other match this season. Final pass usually went awry but i'd rather that than him being largely static. He was trying, hard, to make a difference.

7. The attendance meant no traffic getting out of the ground (said tongue in cheek.I know the reasons why the gate was low).

It's interesting. Some players, Rogers and Guessand in particular, are getting a fair amount of stick. They're young lads, we should be putting our arms around their shoulders and helping them. If i'm struggling at work, people don't stand on the fringes and shout abuse at me and moan at me, they look to support me and help me. Not sure why football is any different (please don't go down the "they earn a fortune so they should accept it" route).

The smallest green shoots of something, which MIGHT (but might not) grow into something more on Sunday

Oh behave mate if footballers don't perform fans have every right to tell them, this is the problem with footballers of today there pamperd babies and don't like to be told and hide behind there agents

Buendia man of the match is a honking opinion. Kamara closely followed by Torres last night.

Thought we were ok for the first 20 mins then they looked the more threatening for the remainder of the game. One big positive last night was having Torres and Kamara we were able to move the ball far quicker from deep into the front man allowing runners from midfield.
Think it’s apparent how much we miss Youri also.

Morning.

Hard to know where to start really. So many thoughts.

I've watched football, and Villa, long enough to know / sense that something is rotten at the moment. I don't know what it is - PSR sulking, PSR restriction, players wanting out, players not wanting to leave, manager losing the dressing room, internal fighting. All of these are valid theories but in truth, who the heck knows.

What I do know is we've backed ourselves into a corner now where we MUST win the next four games to stand a chance of lifting the gloom. Three of those games are at home, one kicking off our Europa campaign. Two of those games are also against promoted sides. Anything less than 4 wins will mean a horrible toxic atmosphere at Villa Park, which will make the current situation untenable. Which in turn will almost certainly result in Emery leaving. A doom laden view admittedly, but this is how football works unfortunately.

I was hoping we might shuffle the formation a bit last night. I was also hoping we might play with some of that press / fast ball intensity we saw to such great effect last season (Forest / City / Newcastle / Liverpool at home in the league, Celtic in the Champs League, Spurs in the FA Cup as examples). But we didn't, except for one occasion where we did press, win the ball back, and score (that goal was not lucky nor gifted to us, it was the result of pressing).

Very confused, very frustrated, hoping the worst is past us but fearing it is yet to come. We are or should be better than this.

Personally I think the cup game midweek is the perfect opportunity to change tactics, we played them and lost using emery’s regular tactics so why not change it up and see how it goes against the same opponents, get at least one winger in the starting 11, I’d leave Rogers on the bench he needs a bit of humbling

2.) 15 Sep 2025 09:53:38
We need to go strong aswell winning breed confidence 2moz game, sunderland and fulhams could be crucial for unai loose all will most likely be out of a job coming up to internationals

Evening all.

I share frustrations, it is an incredibly tough watch at the moment being a Villa fan. That said, as a fanbase we always seem to find our loudest voice (negative) when it isn't going to plan. If we'd have started the season at a sprint, i'm convinced there would be nowhere near as many posts on here.

I get it.this is a Villa forum for all Villa opinion.warts and all. But, collectively, I'd say Villa fans (of which I am one, long suffering, for 40 years) are the first to huff and puff when it starts going south.

So, to try and provide a contrasting view, there was some battle today and we came out with a clean sheet and a point. There wasn't much attacking elegance but there is something to build on. A cup win (with a goal!) is achievable on Tuesday.

Keep facing forward

It's not going south SV it's long been South, far too long for many Villa fans. What is being served up makes many of us do more than Huff and Puff. Nothing is improving, nothing is changing to improve things the same poor decisions from players and coaches alike.I hope the noises that are being made by the disconcerted are heeded by those who can change things and that should be the players and coaches, if they don't change others will make changes for them.

2.) 13 Sep 2025 18:39:26
Yep we kept a clean sheet but partly because we didn’t commit to many to attack. gussand looks like he has a bit about him, was YT a tactical change or was it an injury did anyone hear?

A very frustrated banter page this evening. I'd say it's as much the players as it is the manager. Yes he selects the team and the tactics, but the team still kick it around the pitch for 90 mins.they can up the pace themselves, overlap runs, turn from pedestrian to energised and direct.

There are two standouts for me at the moment.

1. Rashford and Ascensio were far more valuable and impactful to this team than I realised. Their goals and assists aside they clearly lifted the performances of the team. They helped raise the bar. Dragged better performances out of players.

2. As many have said, we are two narrow. We seem to have far too many 10s and no width. Qualifying for the champs league was in a large way down to the contributions of Bailey and Diaby.wide pacey players. With plenty of goals and assists.

I can see what we're trying to do in breaking the lines through the middle, but have an 11 that can do both that and offer width.

The sun will still rise tomorrow and the hens will still lay. This result will sting and next week vs Palace will be (has to be) better.

No moaning about PSR because nobody can change that. Use some guile, get some players in, and come out fighting vs Palace.

Good question SC.

I'd expect the defense and two holding mids to be pretty much locked down.

Bizot
Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne
Tamara, Tielemans

Then it depends on fitness. If we assume MR is fit i think he'll go.

Rogers, McGinn, Malen
Watkins

Can't see Rogers and Buendia both starting as they both want to be through the middle as 10's so we'll have no width. Also can't see Bailey starting IF rumours of his departure to Roma are true.

Leaves a decent bench of Mings, Bogarde, Maatsen, Onana, Garcia (if fit), Bartley (if fit), SIJ, Buendia and Guessard. Plus a keeper (who is 4th choice? ) . Might have space on the bench for a few young uns as well.

Assuming this mornings news is correct (Wiki page says he's signed) then the young Dutch lad is a prime example of Dazs 'buy young' comment. He has a whiff of Duran about him. And, were he to become a first team regular in the seasons ahead, would return a tidy profit given he cost nowt. It is very clinical but that will be Villas thinking.

A tough day. Similar emotions to the Cup semi against Palace. Hard to stand back with perspective when you feel really cheesed off.

The reality is, in the time Emery has led Villa we are much improved and competitive across multiple competitions. We've got into the top 7 three seasons running, qualified for Europe three seasons running and got to Cup semi finals.

What we are lacking is the ability to 9 times out of 10 win the games that matter (like today) .

Be interesting to see the ins and outs over the Summer. The future is still bright.

Hope we just focus on our games, nowt we can do about others. Focus on Spurs and what we need to do to get 3 points. A gritty win yesterday, not pretty but plenty of hard work and application.stuff that was sometimes lacking earlier in the season. Very impressive performances from Onana and Cash.

Great to have another season of some form of European football to look forward to
