I don't rate ayew, brilliant ability but got the brain of a U12 player, slows us down a lot of the time, loses the ball too much and decision making is non existent, and for all his good moments they don't outweigh his negatives. However that being said we saw he is best as a striker last season, if he goes we are so short up front and we would probably have to sign two striker if we were to stand a chance of promotion!

2.) 24 Jan 2017 19:20:49
I have based this on the idea that RHM will sign up with Flabby and A new signing pushing Kodja as our No1.
Mainly I can now see chances being created and scored from midfield too. The new look midfield can give us something that we have lacked since dare I say it the Platt and Cowans partnership. Might be a little ahead of myself but glass half full and all that

Just read a rumour that Burnley are preparing a bid for Westwood as a replacement for Joey Barton. But he would have to take a cut to his £35,000 a week salary.
I am willing to chip in to make up the shortfall anyone else want to help make it happen? TAXI!

1.) 23 Jun 2016 18:58:32
Totally unfair!
This guy might not be ronaldo or messi, but he never said he was, he gave all he could, every week, he never hid in games, and always seems to be blamed as the fans escape goat.
Of all the useless crap in that squad, he wouldn't be one I would be pushing out the door first, and in fact, the championship might just be where he was to shine.

The constant criticism he fits is not warranted.
Every club needs a joey Barton in that league, we don't have one, but another club is saying he is a good alternative, and we are once again willing to risk egg on our faces!?

2.) 23 Jun 2016 20:02:09
Hear hear Flackie, there's plenty of others in our squad that deserve to take a pay cut to clear off to anywhere but B6, if asked, think Westwood would be up for getting us back to where we belong, get off his back and get behind him.

UTV.

3.) 23 Jun 2016 20:10:23
I don't think he's a great player but he gives 100 % of himself in every game
In short, there are far more deserving causes for your ridicule and scorn.

4.) 23 Jun 2016 22:27:20
He may give 100% but simply not good enough if rather have a good player get a 7 every game than a not so good player get 5 every game although can fault effort.

5.) 23 Jun 2016 23:32:25
That's not the point. The point is, he is the constant target for people, and I disagree, I don't think he deserves the siht he gets, and actually, I would rather a team full of Westwoods, giving their all, and working their socks off for the team, even if they don't have the best talent, than a team full of a gabby, Richards, lescotts, and gustedes all the ability in the world, yet no desire, energy or fight.

6.) 23 Jun 2016 23:43:15
I'm not too fussed whether 'the crab' stays or goes. Combined with sanchez (Carlos) they make 1 decent player.

7.) 23 Jun 2016 23:44:48
People moan when he plays it side to side but if that's how his being instructed to play an the whole teams doing it he can't just be singled out, always give his all and doesn't stop till the final whistle, think he'll be quality in the championship just as long as they don't let him take corners for gods sake.

Then again think we need to sign some one who can take corners because I don't think any of them can.

8.) 24 Jun 2016 01:21:58
This is not a personal attack on Ashley and I would agree that there are many others worthy of criticism. The unarguable truth is that he has never shone in a very poor squad of players. I would cheer him for the full 90 if he showed me the ability needed to drag Villa back to the Prem and then keep us there. As yet I have only seen a player with desire and a professional attitude that many others at the club lack. But he also lacks the qualities needed as we look to rebuild and look forward to our bright future.

9.) 24 Jun 2016 01:28:23
Giving 100% when you are on £35,000 a week isn't enough! Giving your all shouldn't even be in doubt it should just be a bare minimum! For me Westwood along with all our midfielders last season let's games pass them by! For me personally I'd let them all ( Sanchez, Westwood, Vertout, Gana I appreciate spelling may be in correct) go if offers are put to the club for me the only one who is championship ready and proven at that level is Gary Gardner, and I would like to see him give a fair crack! And in all fairness we could have done far worse than beating rangers to Bartons signature.

10.) 24 Jun 2016 08:53:51
Veretout and Gana won't stay and Sanchez has told press at the Cops America that he will be returning to VP after the tournament. Whatever that means.
Gardener must at least be given a chance. Forest are keen to sign him so why let him go.

11.) 24 Jun 2016 09:42:22
Westwood is poor so take what we can get, 1 good game in 5yrs.

12.) 24 Jun 2016 09:47:06
Tell you what, let's sell him for more than we paid for him, replace him with someone comparable or better then 50% of people will be happy, and hope you go and smash it somewhere else Ashley because life's too short to be having people disrespect you for actually trying in a team of poisonous mercenaries who that 50% probably welcomed to our club, end of 😤

UTV.

13.) 24 Jun 2016 12:22:59
Agree with you Chard none of them are good enough with possibbly Vertout being a "maybe" Quite simply they aren't good enough! Westwood is a worker but never will be åt thé level we need, Sanchez is conning a career in football thé Beach would be a better Place for him to stroll around!

14.) 25 Jun 2016 09:54:13
Before we start ditching Westwood let's remember Steve Davies, now at Saints and showing real class at the Euros, players like Westwood do what they are coached to do! Remember this guy was playing for Crewe and got thrown into a poor Premiership team and expected to be the next Gordon Cowans or whatever for us! Give him a break, let him be coached by the right team we have in place now and build a half decent, hard working and creative team around him. And lastly if we want to criticise anyone it's players like: Guzan, Bunn, Lescott, Richards, Bacuna (Absolute joke) N'Zogbia, Crespo, Agbonlahor, Sinclair (to a point) Grealish (poor attitude) Sanchez (for doing some awesome midfield work but then poorly giving possession away to often) and does anyone know where Kozak is? Surely a season in the championship would be good for a fit goalscorer like him?

15.) 25 Jun 2016 10:26:38
I would hope that Bacuna never goes anywhere near VP!
He along with Richards, Lescott, Guzan, Gabby, need to go as they are responsible for the awful attitude on the pitch and off. Add Bunn, Sanchez, Sinclair, Gestede for a lack of talent shown in a claret and blue shirt.
I put it to my fellow long suffering Villa fans that we need hunger and desire in the dressing room. Players who have a point to prove for one reason or another. Players of any age and forgetting their past players who can give us something to cheer about. It could be a Joey Barton type or a Joey Essex just get the right kind of player to wear the shirt.
Thinking about it a few of our current lot make Joey Essex look like a member of MENSA.

Heard a rumour a while ago Baggies are preparing a bid for Gabby. Makes sense today they announced that Sessegnon and Anichebe being released.

Burnley have apparently stated an interest in signing Westwood if they get promoted. Let me know when the window opens I will drive him up there myself.

Jam dog

1.) 25 Apr 2016 16:23:16
Westwood gets a rough time, grafts, and doesn't stop, and to be fair to him, he has never hidden. Not like most the others.
He is not world class, probably not prem class. But he has never said he is!
It's the other numpties we need rid of.
I'm not saying I want to keep Westwood, far from it! Just feel he is an escape goat, when he is playing to best of his limited ability, when we have so many others who never turn up, try or keep their heads down.
They could learn a lot from him regarding professionalism.
Never in the limelight, good or bad.
Never on social media.
Head down doing his best.

Can the rest say the same??

2.) 25 Apr 2016 17:21:26
Well said flackie mate. Westwood may not be a world beater but he keeps his head down and does his best. I'd keep him for the championship, probably better suited to that level.

3.) 25 Apr 2016 18:04:57
we need a new midfield, he has been at villa 3to4yrs adds nothing, seems nice person but another PL buy who needs to go, too weak and small for championship.

4.) 25 Apr 2016 18:47:04
I think he should go, don't get me wrong, I also think he was a poor buy, even by our recent standards.
However, as I have said, it's his ability that let's him down, not his work rate, desire, or antics.
And, here is the kicker, our scouts brought him because of his ability.
Perhaps they are where we should be aiming our frustration.

5.) 25 Apr 2016 18:51:18
Flakie well said but he's just not good enough to play like all others but fair comment.

6.) 25 Apr 2016 19:06:10
I agree!!!
But the annoying thing is, he tries to!
Can we honestly say, except for gana, and veratout, (so only talking his position) that they can all say that?

That's not looking at strikers, or our defence!

Yet always, he is the guy singled out.
Let's remember, our scouts brought him, they told him he is good enough for prem! He was way below.

What I'm trying to say, and badly i know, is we all know we are siht, including those players.
We will never know, if the rest had stepped up, and put the work rate that Westwood has in, we might of at least given survival a go.

Personally I think they should all leave, and all get grief. But for me, the last guy I would point a finger at his him.

7.) 25 Apr 2016 19:32:03
It's a squad game and as it stands, Westwood is good squad player and not on stupid money, think we're a bit too harsh on him, look at the crap he's surrounded by?

UTV.

8.) 25 Apr 2016 19:39:01
So many games I haven't noticed him which in truth is not too bad a thing for his position. I would probably keep him as a reserve. Certainly not really able to get into many premier league teams. He is however one of the squad who has maintained his dignity, respectfull on and off the pitch and is one of the few I would wish well.

9.) 25 Apr 2016 20:03:38
Well that caused a bit of a kerfuffle! Best summed up as a nice kid who just hasn't quite got the talent we would expect of a Villa midfielder. Definitely not though in the same mould as the rest of the work shy prima donnas masquerading as villa players. A good pro. As I write this I am reminded that a certain Mr B Bannan has made it into the Championship team of the season so maybe there is hope for Ar Ashley!

10.) 25 Apr 2016 22:42:45
Westwood is one of the only true professionals we have, not exploding with talent no but is the sort of heart the club needs. Not good enough for the prem. We're not in the prem anymore. I've never disliked him and as flackie said he's being used as a scapegoat.
It's these 'proven top flight' players that have been the issue this year just simply not trying
Give the lad a break, he's never once given up on the club or himself even with his 'lack of ability'.

Created so many chances and looked a little more like a team. We do need to finish the season well and take that into pre season playing as a unit and with confidence. All of the ingredients are there I believe. Main worry were signs of dissent on the pitch and from the dugout. SB going mental at Kodja on more than one occasion presumably about his work rate and poor distribution particularly to Hogan. He ain't number one King ding a ling now Hogan is there. If he gets it into his head we could have a partnership like Atkinson and Saunders at VP.

On the bright side can we possibly play any worse than that? I kin hope not As I might be chuckin myself in the Trent on Saturday night.
Played too deep all game. They pressed as a team and we did not. Massive spaces between our midfield and back 4. Lack of leadership from our skipper.
Lots for SB to do before Sat. LOTS

Hogan fee agreed and having a medical. With all of the other confirmed ins and outs this could go down as one of the most positive January windows in many a season.
Don't want to get too ahead of the curve but do we actually look like a well organised forward looking club again? UTV

Not for the first time a game of 2 halves. More positives than negatives but the best moment by far was the 72nd minute.
Perfect tribute to one of our best and most loved managers of my generation. Credit to all of us who were there today and took part in the celebration of GT.

Haven't posted for a while as I have been prescribed some happy pills and now sit in a dark padded room on a Sat between 3 and 5. I was quietly watching Tipping Point last night when at 5.30 Villa appeared on my TV. After watching for the next 90 mins I have now doubled my dosage and have booked a weekend in a farm of the funny variety.

I will still be sitting in The Holte this Sat and am busy booking a room for the Forest game.
Keeping taking the tablets and still believe. We are now and always will be the Pride of the Midlands. We will come back stronger and better we all know that.
Can't wait for this weekend to give Sir Graham a proper send off. UTV

We need to press higher up the pitch as I said yesterday. Hogan showed us and the rest of the team how to do it but Kodja was missing when they had possession. Add to that the fact that the defence were 20 yards too deep causing the midfield to get isolated. If we press as one unit it works and then we can break play up and counter quickly as we showed last night. We back off too much, how many goals have we conceded when defenders have backed off.

Agree with Grealish he he'd no need to get a second yellow 80 yards from goal when he fouled him. Created enough chances to win the game but how many times have we heard that. Kodja showed what little work rate he has when they had the ball Hogan did his running for him. Genuinely worried as we drop far too deep every game. We invite teams on and are sitting ducks. We had four breakaways one of them 4 v 3 and we weren't good enough to finish.

Dave great post matey. Whilst I am not a fan of Bruce I am fully behind him and whoever he brings in to assist him.
