Having watched Match of the Day last night I am getting ever more frustrated with the officiating which has got a lot worse not better since the introduction of VAR, referees are frightened to make a decision because they feel they have VAR to 'save' them because someone else can make the decision which is fine providing that person makes the right decision which sadly all too often they don't. What makes matters worse is the inconsistency in the decision making yesterday was a classic example, so you can argue whether the McGinn challenge was a red card personally I don't think it was (Udogie's response was shameful initially he looked like he was getting ready to chin McGinn then when he saw the uproar it caused he fell to the ground and started to roll around like he'd been shot!) but if it was a sending off then so was Moder's challenge on Williams in the Brighton-Forest game and Ederson's taking out Darwin Nunez in the Liverpool-City game. So whilst I don't think losing McGinn cost us yesterdays game we were long gone before his challenge, but losing him for 3 games could certainly cost us points in those games and maybe even CL qualification yet the referees continue to make error after error with no real consequence as a result. Is refereeing the only profession where incompetence remains an acceptable standard of performance?

LOTM, couldn't agree more with the refereeing, however yesterday defeat was down to the players and the coaches and the refereeing performance shouldn't distract from that fact.

Lord Ederson couldn’t have been sent off due to the double jeopardy rule. Penalty was given as Ederson tried to play the ball
