I've noticed that when clark is captain, he has some of the worst performances of his career, but when vlaar is captain he has a half decent game! Think he spends more time worrying about everybody around him then what he's doing, he gets quite hypocritical! Baker deserves a place a lot more than clark in my opinion, he'll throw himself at any ball from a corner, at both ends of the pitch and if he's one on one with somebody, he'll do what he can to stop them. Cazorla's first goal just proved which one of them pair fights for the team more, because after baker made the block from behind clark he then ran straigh past him and threw himself at the ball to try and stop the goal! What did clark do? He stood there watching!
Believable4
Unbelievable0
Clark is a weakness that should be eliminated. Another cock up another loss. Even an amatuer knows that if you are the last man u clear the ball, not f--- about with it. If we could see all the headed goals given away, I am sure you will see Clark looking at the ball. We seem to have got rid of Bannan but we must get rid of Clark. Come on PL look at the obvious, we have a back 4 problem and who is ever present in the back 4?
Agree3
Disagree0
Totally agree! Every corner that comes in, he is standing in no mans land and benteke is marking the player that clark should be, i'm fairly certain it should be the other way around, for one of man city's corners, benteke was marking yaya toure and who was clark marking? The edge of the 6 yard box! He's awful but I bet when vlaar is fit, if ever, he'll play 5 at the back or he'll push baker to left back, I really feel sorry for baker, he's a proper defender but he's constantly doing clark and bennetts jobs!
Agree0
Disagree0
Clark should be left as a sub. until he learns the right place to be as a defender. But who have we got to stick in the back in his place? I wouldn't mind a little bet that if we got Vlarr, Baker and thingame, you know, that bloke that plays for Ireland, came from Man. City, whatshis name. Got it Bunn, no sorry Dunn. Is he still on our books?Where is the latest signing Syllva? He could be useful at the back. Hard taclking and no prisoners, just what we now need before it is too late.
Agree0
Disagree0
To be honest i'd rather have derrick williams at centre back over clark! Everpresent in reserves and every time i've seen him he's been top class! Dunne is too old and too fat, think he'll be gone at the end of his contract

The baggies the carrott crunchers and the noses all lost and they still post on our wall, sad really. For the record the Blue noses are our only rivals other teams are simple wannabee rivals

Saying that baggies used to be a bigger rivalry than blues did, that was when blues were quite literally nobody though.

struggling to see how we are going to get 15m+ for benteke, scored 15 goals this season has pace and 3 years left on contract--on that basis weimann must be worth 10m+ too, ten goals just as quick few years left, tranfers are bloody stupid these days think we paid about right for him at 7m
Believable2
Unbelievable1
Benteke has scored 20 goals this season as he scored 5 in the belgium league before signing for villa on deadline day with 3 yrs left on his contract.
20+ goals a season strikers are worth a minimum of 15m to 30 plus
Weimann will get better and better but with him he was 18 months left so if he chooses to leave we'll have to swallow it and he'd leave for peanuts

26 Feb 2013 16:25:07
I hate it when people say that our club lacks 'ambition', with relegation looking inevitable how do you expect us to keep the likes of Benteke?
If we survive he will still go, no footballer that in one season has had so much talk about him would stay.
Most people would reply with give him a better contract, that's villas problem at the moment, MASSIVE wages for mediocre players.
It should of happened last season, go down and regroup/reform a broken team. UTV!
Believable0
Unbelievable1
But Benteke isn't an average player is he?
For once, we got it right. Bought a player who showed potential for
relatively small outlay and he has proved his worth. We should now reward that, and use him as an example when selling the club to the worlds best young talent. ie come here, get the opportunity to make an impact and reap the rewards
If we had a team with equal quality to Benteke in all positions, the wages would not be an issue as we would be generating Champions League gate receipts
Mendax
Agree3
Disagree2
Yeah, playing in the championship is a great reward to reap. some example
Agree2
Disagree1
Did you even read what I said before you answered?
I'm not saying we "reward" Benteke with championship football
I am pointing out that we should reward the players who arrive at the club and do well, as an enticement for other young, hungry, talented players to want to come here and do the same
If you think that's a bad idea, then fair enough but please stick to the point

Think the 3 that go down will probably be the ones there now. QPR are certain, Villa deserve it as they should have gone down last season and Reading just not good enough. Think West Ham could make a late surge for relegation also.
Believable3
Unbelievable5
Your theory of deserve to go down after last year, and you leave wigan out who have done it for 4 years on the bounce wigan, qpr and reading with us scrapping it out by the skin of our teeth.
Agree3
Disagree1
But you all keep going on about what a massive club villa is, so they shouldn't in theory be near the relegation zone if your claim is correct. Wigan aren't a big club with huge support and they survive. No, if a so called big club are near the relegation zone one season it could be viewed as a one off, where as villa are making a habit of it so they deserve to go down.
Agree4
Disagree1
Whoever goes down will have deserved it
Whatever happened last year of or the year before has nothing to do with it
Mendax
Agree2
Disagree0
So stop going on about your history being a reason for staying up, it means nothing, look at Leeds, man city, forest, Norwich and wolves, all big clubs all been down there.
Agree0
Disagree1
You are obviously not a Villa fan so why does it even bother you mate?
People who do support the club are going through a miserable time and are very frustrated. It can lead us to reminisce about better days and get anxious because, whether you agree or not, Villa are a big club who really should not have got themselves in such a mess
The point is, what is it to you?
If you can't stand the sound of self pitying Villa fans going on about a proud history, STOP COMING ON AN ASTON VILLA SITE!
It's very simple Einstein
Mendax
Agree5
Disagree0
Norwich a big club! What are you on? Never heard a supporter of any club think that Norwich as a big club.
Agree1
Disagree0
With all the persons posting on here, it makes one think that they suffer an inferiority complex. Villa should not be where they are, no argument, but performance states that is where we lie. History does not guarantee league status but history is real hope is just that and envy is an unenviable state of mind. Villa can prove history and Villa, via McGregor, founded the football league. That is real and Villa should be in the top 6. Unfortunately not with the squad that takes the field every Saturday or Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Friday, oh and Sunday.
Agree1

Just face it, you're not a big club in the premier league, but you will be a big one in the championship, your wish is soon to be granted

Agree3

Bet no villa fans come to Norwich in May, Not when you are already down, only to see us in Party mood
Agree3
Disagree3
Still amazes me that the sheep lovers spend so much time on the Villa site, they must be really boring shepherds, walking around in their Wellies. I will be at Carrow Rd in May, perhaps you would like to make an effort and be there to identify yourself. Or are you as yellow as your shirts? You continue to hide behind words. Tell me where you will be and I will willingly buy you a bevy for giving most of the Villa fans so much fun. You also don't know your geography, Yam Yams are the Black country, Baggies Wolves Walsall. Villa are in Birmingham. In passing, I have been on the Norwich site and most of the entries are very well made and polite, more interested in their own team.
Agree0
Disagree1
We will fill the away end and come and smash you 4-1 again with a second string. Hughton is doing a good job though can see him at the villa
Agree0

You would love hughton and holt at the village, unfortunately I doubt they want championship football
Agree2

Thanks for the invite sweetie but you would probably want more than just a drink and you won't find that here
Agree0

Why do people get the hump when other clubs fans come on thier sites for a bit of Banter, its just the same as the match day, you shout we shout you lose we win what's the problem? Are the Villa fans so upset that they made the wrong appointments in the summer and are actually regretting it now, where as other fans are laughting at you Not just Norwich fans either
Agree1
Disagree1
Agree totally mate, villa fans like to give banter but can't take it. They also think somehow they have a right not to have bad times on the pitch. Apparently if you have been in the premier league for however many seasons you're automatically exempt from relegation!
Agree2
Disagree1
And they will probably have the biggest and emptiest stadium in the Championship next season, as they all start to support West Brom
Agree4
Disagree3
Yep, they're not famous anymore
Agree0
Disagree1
They are obviously still famous otherwise you wouldn't keep taking the p---. Most of you are too young to remember previous hard times at VP. 48000 v Bournmouth in Div 3
64000 v Cardiff in div 2. If you want to look at more recent comparison then go north ( hold the map straight ) and go to the top of the page. There you will find Scotland and Rangers FC. Div 3 and filling all the grounds. When did your team put 40000 bums on seats? Or perhaps your ground can't hold more than 25000.

I know that Benteke is going to leave, but is Bent going to follow him out the door? I think that we need to keep one at the very least and then sign Bony. Bony, Weimann, Delfouneou and Bent/eke will be a good strike force.

Agree0

No the season is not judge over 8 weeks it will be judge over what happens in the next 12 and norwich fans should be worried with their current run of form as should qpr and wigan.

Agree1

You've got to admire the carrot crunchers it's takes a long time to get to an away game in a cart on a proper note they can sell there produce on the way ooh arrh

Well after this season you won't be visiting Carrow road again any time soon after your slide down the leagues
Agree0

You sure the egg boilers will last another season, or even 3 minutes.
Get real, get honest and realise that you have a the worst performances in the prem over the last 8 weeks. Jealousy is a deadly sin, but being an person is a sin against mankind. If you have a brain then use it properly or let a needy person have it.
Agree1

But Villa have been consistently poor all season, not just eight weeks. When Arsenal and Man City hammer you your place in the bottom three will be cemented.

Benteke, just a bully - nothing more
Agree4
Disagree4
Most real C/F are bullies as they use their presence to intimidate defenders. Most C/H are bullies and are happy to spread a little muscle about the pitch. What is the difference, Benteke is honest, he takes and he gives both without complaining. I guess you would like to see a bunch of fairies trotting round the pitch? I'm for the mans game myself, how about you lovies?

6 points clear of the Aston Village persons. like one of your lot says a bit further down this page, the table doesn't lie. hence you're still going down. Don't think a win against a poor West Ham side is going to salvage your season, let's see how you fare in your next game away to Arsenal.

I must say carrot rd has great facilities for parking your tractor and the friendly stewards will bend over backwards to look after your cattle
Agree1

Why worry, after this season you'll never play there again. village going down
Agree6
Disagree2
You need to learn a bit of respect! villa are one of seven teams that have been consistantly in the epl since it began. this stint in the epl is only lent to norwich and how much egg will you have on your face as the villa go from strength to strength with a great mgr (who obviously knew the truth about norwich hence left for a big club) and remain in the epl while norwich go back were they best fit - league 2! utv sotc
Agree5
Disagree6
Get ready for it, those of you who think you have a Devine right not to be relegated are in for a shock
Agree5
Disagree3
Can't wait to see Villa in the championship
Agree6
Disagree4
Must mean that they will be playing at Carrow rd. when you slide down the table. Remember that your performance over the last few weeks is the worst in the prem. You boasted that 7 points seperated the teams and you were looking at Europe. Only way you will get there is if Hughton can write a decent song. Go back where you belong, you are stopping real teams from playing in the prem. Villa may not survive but they will get back. PL took rubbish up, see what he can do when he gets a real team playing for him.
Agree1
Disagree0
Ha ha, when you go down, and you will Lambert won't be able to save you, your a club full of high earning prima donnas who won't be up for hard man football in the championship. What Lambert had at Norwich was a team full of honest hard working footballers, not prima Donna chavs like your pink Bentley driving muppet, what a brilliant but he's turned out to be, lol. No, sorry but you will go down, and you won't be back anytime soon, make way for decent teams in the prem.
Agree1
Disagree0
If we're that bad what does that make village? Six points less and a hatful more conceded. lol
Agree1
Disagree0
I always say that it takes one to know one, are you a chav? You write like an ill informed and are unaware that eventually Villa will rise again while your bunch of hard working "poor" men may well slide away to where you started from. WE all agree that it looks bad for Villa, but should Villa win at the emierates and your hard working mob lose there would be just 4 pts difference. now go and tend to your sheep, they are very lonely.
Agree0
Disagree0
Doesn't matter if its 4 points or one we will finish above you, even on level points your goal difference will relegate you. You really have nothing going for you. poor Villa R. I. P.
Agree0
Disagree0
Do you really think so, or are you trying to bolster your hopes as you slide down the table? I think that you are a living the dream of staying in the prem. You are not safe and even 1 point may not be enough to save you from the champs, your real home. Because if Villa drop further as you predict so will you and others may win enough to stay up. Now there's an interesting thought. Villa will still get a bigger crowd than you, but we already do that. The ground may appear empty to the TV viewer, but believe me 30000+ in a ground that holds 45k is still a lot more then the carrot patch.
Agree0
Disagree0
You've just admitted it, your grounds too big for you. We could fill ours twice over whereas you can't fill yours to two thirds capacity. Mr Lerner should sell it to Tesco, knock down decrepit Village park and build a supermarket, at least they would get more visitors.

Dropped 18 points from winning positions, and 6 in the last 3 games. And we didn't strengthen in defence. Only got ourselves to blame then.

i don't see why we didn't put a bid in for upson type players, experienced defenders are what we need NOT attackers. We have scored a winnable amount of goals lately and played ok at times, but the defense is where improvement is needed we concede too many sloppy and late goals (everton and west brom alone cost 4 points), with no dunne who can we rely on now? changes where needed and it could cost big time.

How about Utd, 3 pts given away? That makes 7 easy points thrown away. Clark is not good enough to play at the back. If you look at the goals conceded at corners Clark is in view but not in contact. I think that he is not able to work oput the flight of the ball so he cannot get to the player that scores, everytime! reo coker is afree agent, lots of stories before the end of Jan. don't think much of him but he does have experiance that our defence and midfield lack.

Hi there
Celtic fan here, watched your last 2 games and feel you are due a bit of luck.
A young team and next season as you will stay up, with players leaving and players indentified to come in, I feel a top 8 position is a realistic target, similar way Lerner runs his business to Mr Desmond he wants to bring in youth and bring them on, look at Wanyama, Hooper, Forster etc at Celtic, 3 seasons ago we were at our lowest but keep the faith and think about our result against Barca.
Good luck for the rest of season

It's a young team yes, but would have liked a touch of experience in that defence would not mind Wanyama and Hooper in the Villa first 11 at the moment.

What are your score predictions for the Everton Aston Villa game? I have some bizarre optimism that we might get something out of the game. {Ed003's Note - 10-0 }

Not looking for a win, i'm looking for a solid performance for 90 minutes, no more of this playing well for the first 10 minutes then letting it go to pot until its too late to turn it around, nobody would expect a win at everton if we were 19th or 5th! If w keep the scoreline down and put in a good fight i'll be pleased, a point will be a very good result for us!

10-0 to Villa? I thought I was being optimistic!

I don't know why but every time we play at Goodison we put in a good performance I reckon we'll go 1-0 up then 1-1 then 2-1 us then it will finish 2-2

I personally am more than happy with the signings, yacouba sylla was being chased by teams from every top league in europe, he's a very strong defensive mid that will sit in front of the back four and do whatever he can to make sure nobody gets in front of the back four, something we've been lacking since reo-coker, petrov and barry! Nobody in our midfield will put a tackle in but this lad is certainly going to put himself about, at the same time he's got a brain, he won't make silly changes if he doesn't need to (unlike delph) and he's calm on the ball and can spot a pass. As for simon dawkins, I don't think anybody can comment on him, his early career was tainted by knee injuries but he's play over 50 games for san jose now and he can play anywhere across the front, from what I have seen of him he looks very technically gifted and he's not wasteful on the ball! We all know we've got no money but we still managed to bring in 2 of the things we were lacking, steel in midfield, and creativity going forward! Taking into mind the financial situation i'm glad we still managed to bring in two of the types of players we miss! UTV

Maybe I can shed some light on why we have brought a 'striker' in on loan until the end of the season. From what I know simon dawkins' contract with spurs is up in july, we've loaned him for the remainder of his contract then we'll possibly get him on a free transfer, saved ourselves a bit of money there! Not had the best start to his career but he's certainly worked hard to get back to where he is, and he's more than happy to play on the wing, agbonlahor and weimann are both strikers but lambert is constantly opting put both on the wing, I have no doubts that dawkins is going to play on the wing meaning weimann can push back upfront considering he is a 'born finisher' as lambert said himself. I know for sure a few san jose fans were sad to see the back of him and he's even been described as the best player they had! lets at least give the lad a chance and see if he's got what it takes in the premier league! He certainly has a lot more fight than most of the players we've got!

Villa spent 1. 75m on Sylla and Dawkins on loan on deadline day.
WHY OH WHY did Villa wait till deadline day to spend 1. 75m could of got this lad in in the first week and maybe we would of had a couple of different results as we'll obviously not play Bannan now

Because it would of added to the wage bill as no one had left.

I'm if at the end of the season we go down and it was close the cost of their for those 3 weeks will really of mattered also the players who left have been on loan anyway so we weren't paying their wages anyway.

Hutton & Warnock have gone and that should have released some funds. What concerns me is that the Magpies were able to get Sissoko for less than peanuts. He is rumoured to be being paid big money but he would have made a difference.
