The penalty is a poor excuse for the result last night, I have no doubt the game would have ended in a loss, penalty or no penalty.
Our setup and approach is habitual, we appear to have four periods in our game, 1. full of promise, 2. mediocrity, 3. loss direction,4. capitulation, and that is the same every time we play.
When we lose the search begins for the reason why, there is an inquest into what went wrong, I will tell you what went wrong, we are not good enough to compete in this league, nowhere near.
At times we are woeful, inept, gutless, and we are a shambles, you can dress it up anyway you like, and your answer will always be the same.
Its very hard to admit to our deficiencies, but facts are facts, our future has to start now.

Dave,
The full of promise period shows that this team can compete when they apply themselves. Rarely though do they show the level of intensity and passion required for the full 90 minutes, in order to get the results to survive in this league.
I wouldn’t say they are incapable of doing so though.
Cast your mind back to the League Cup tie against Leicester. A top 4 side, and Villa won over the 2 legs. Why? because the commitment and passion required was maintained for the full lengths of the games.
For me, the problem stems from poor leadership on the pitch. When things go wrong, such as the penalty incident Thursday night, the team needs a figurehead to lift the side to greater heights. Instead heads drop and before you know it we’re 2-0 down and the match is virtually irretrievable.
Jack Grealish spent the 90 minutes aimlessly wondering around the pitch, looking as if he couldn’t really care less, when he should have been rallying the troops to get back into the game.
We need a chest beater, someone with fire in their belly to lift the side, and turn poor decisions like the one we all witnessed into an advantageous situation, not a disadvantageous one.
We need a Roy Keane or Andy Townsend type figure.
Grealish may be a talented individual but there’s no way on this Earth he should be Captain of this side.

Dave just like me they have knocked every bit of optomism out of you, the only difference I think I bkinked a lot earlier, like six games in for me and if you recall I was pilloried on here when I said we wouldn't get our money back on our purchases. I'm not a nelly I am just an average fan with some idea of quality footballers and the duffers that we purchased, the writing on the wall was obvious to me.

To be fair Scotty I think the biggest percentage of fans can recognize quality mate, Heaton is quality, Reina is not.
The period this season I think you are refering to Scotty, is when the team were finding its feet, or trying to, and people were lambasting Deano and the players.
I felt as others did, that we were being very harsh and hasty in our assessment, given the time they had been together, and that I felt time should be given to all concerned.
Everyone needs to be given time mate, that applies to everything.
Unfortunately you were right mate, and I hold my hand up, but what I will say is that, I was correct about Gollini, Veretout, and Gueye, so I am not entirely a nelly.
