Why don’t they just release him instead of the loan? Do we have to subsidise his wages?

He has a fixed contract, if we release him we have to pay 100% of his wages for the remainder of his contract unless he agrees to less.
At least with a loan, some of those wages are covered so we're not at a complete loss.
