Looks like the Cantwell rumours are bs Stuart Webber who I think is Norwich's CEO has said they don't want to sell so close to the new season, but they would consider a bid if it was a club record fee. I can't see us paying £30 million plus for a player who only has 12 months left on their contract.

Yep agree mate, they have said he will cost us more than Buendia, 35+ is the starting point, move on and look elsewhere I say.
If he is unsettled and wants a move, his head will turn, and so will his performances.

If I’m being honest I’d be underwhelmed if we did sign him. I trust our recruitment and management team, their record speaks for itself. 90% of transfers in recent years have been successes to varying levels, but I’ve never watched Cantwell and thought he was a player ready to go up a level, he gets over hyped because he’s English, I’m guessing but I’m sure El Ghazis last season trumps Cantwells in his prem season.

Half (no 90%) of the problem trying to track player comings and goings is the BS that is posted out there as clickbait. I don’t think any other sport is plagued with the quantity of dross as football suffers. At best, it is 2+2 assumptions being posted, at worst it is just complete fiction. Perhaps, we should have a vote on the worst sites?

I think the Cantwell story probably is based on a he fact he plays on the left and wears an Alice band, as per JG, and we have dipped into the Norwich well so recently. From the Canaries point of view, why jeopardise their season, when replacements will be hard to source? I can see a similar scenario with McNeil at Burnley. The board have (apparently) indicated they are backing Dyche, albeit with modest funds by PL standards, to strengthen.

Perhaps the best each-way bets lie with Alvarez and Bailey, where both respective clubs want funds. Again, the French sides are in a similar boat, but we don’t seem to have much luck with our deals from that direction.

If the reporting is true I think Villa should push for for Mcneil rather than Bailey or Alvarez due to Mcneil's experience? Bailey is very exciting and potentially a very good signing, but do we want to be in a position where a player takes months to adjust as with Luiz, Westley so on!? Its always a risk but other clubs seem to get it right and get forein players up to speed, therefore is there an issue in the current Villa coaching/ fittness system?

I think you make a very good point Dev, I like Mcneil a lot, and I think looking at the bigger picture, he might actually be the better fit, and watching him he has it all.

McNeil has been reported to have suggested he will need to switch club in order to develop, although not necessarily right now. Burnley do not have a wealth of riches within their squad and will do their very best to keep him. With time quickly running down to the start of the new season, I think this would be a tough nut for Villa to crack - much like JWP.

A Cantwell switch feels as though it might be achieved, but at a very high price. The Euros have cut manoeuvring time down quite markedly. Deals from now on in could well be compromised, particularly by price, if Grealish does decide to jump.
