Apparently Barkley is going to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place so it looks like Loftus-Cheek will be the midfielder to join us if the rumours are correct. To be honest if he can stay fit I prefer him to Barkley as his all round game is in my opinion better than his, but the big question is can he stay fit unfortunately he seems to have a bit of the Jack Wilshere's about him fitness wise.

Whilst I did say I would prefer RLC it was with the caveat around his fitness however Barkley is a quality player and will be a definite improvement on what we have currently. If Deano’s observations that they were trying to get a couple in before the window has closed is right then it looks like one more will be coming in so guys my question is what position centre forward left back or centre back? I am assuming the Barkley signing puts an end to Rashica and Benrahma as Jack will be playing wide left for the season at least.

I think your assessment is probably right, John.

It seems as though we have walked away from the Rashica deal - too many negative vibes really.

My best guess would be that Villa are still chasing a striker. I would be very surprised if Edouard is a goer and Brewster appears to be heading to the Blades for £23M, if reports are to be believed. That perhaps leaves King, now supposedly available for £10M, and Budimir from Mallorca.

Buendia and Sarr still get mentions, but I think those are fading options now. However, there is still the Nelsson link bubbling away.

So I would guess a striker, but possibly a centre back might remain on the cards.
