If we are looking for a left back to challenge Targett how about Antonee Robinson at Fulham, premier league experience, right age bracket and wouldn't be too expensive I would have thought.

Robinson isn’t a bad shout. It is tricky identifying players with potential, who may need to be content with a covering role. Salary is often the inducement. Both LB and CF roles look key areas for this.
I wouldn’t write Wesley off yet, but see his better role being one where he runs at defences off the left side - a sort of old inside forward, if anyone still has any idea what I am referring to!
