There’s a rumour going round that we might make a move for Axel Tuanzebe, and for as little as 7 million. Personally I would snap him up for a fee as low as that. At just 23, he’s got many good years ahead of him and I think he’s capable of pushing Tyrone for a place in the team, he could also be a useful replacement right back.
Another option might be to play 3 at the back, with 2 attacking wing backs in Cash and Targett. This would do away with the need of orthodox wingers if we went 3-5-2.
I could imagine our other 3 midfielders as being Berge, Buendia and of course Jack, with Tammy and Ollie up front.
The bench wouldn’t look too shoddy either with the likes of Luiz, McGinn, Ramsey, Sanson and Chukwuemeka to call upon ðŸ˜.

Hi Mark, hope all is well, I have been really busy mate as you know, but I totally agree, he would be a welcome addition to the side.
If reports are right enjoyed his time with us before, and would have very little trouble settling in.

Mark, definitely with you if the rumour on Axel is right as you say he’s the right age, versatile in that he can play in a number of defensive positions even defensive midfield if push came to shove and at £7 million in today’s market they strikes me as great value. However I am not sure how reliable the rumour is, as other outlets are reporting we are looking to sign an experienced premier league centre back which clearly Axel isn’t. I guess time will tell which way we go.

Defensive midfield is a good shout Ally. Axel would fit the bill there, with his height, physique and pace.

I really hope there’s substance to this. Right age, good player, versatile, knows the club. Price feels about right (and good value) for a player who hardly gets any game time at Utd and who’s entering the last year of his contract.

If United are genuinely interested in Tom Heaton, maybe we could do a straight swap. I think that would be a fair deal and it would benefit both clubs.

I would be very happy with that, to be fair Tommy boy is far better than a back up keeper, even at his age.

To be honest if Heaton wants to play first team football why on gods earth would he join United? At best he will be second choice behind Henderson, at worst third choice if De Gea stays, surely either way he has just as much chance of playing first team football with us than with them.
If he does move to United won’t it be on a free? As his contract expires this summer so the swap with Axel would be a non starter.

Of all the rumours circulating around, this one seems to stand up to scrutiny more than most. Cost, our likely requirement (Engels leaves? ), player status etc.
The Szilai story with a £15-20M just didn’t stack up for instance. I just can’t see Smith/ Lange shelling out that sort of money for, potentially, a reserve CB, particularly when their will be priorities further forward and covering the LB spot need to be budgeted for too.
Smith’s familiarity with Tuanzebe plus his flexibilty (CB/ RB/ DM) makes him a good fit, especially if the manager is weighing up Kessler, rather than Guilbert, as his RB cover. He could well want a plan B, just in case it doesn’t go to plan.

A swap deal with Heaton won’t happen because the goalie is out of contract next month. However, it seems he will be United bound, but on a free.
