It looks like Villa are trying to renew Reina`s loan for another 12 months.
I really hope that is not true, I don`t know about you guys but I reckon he is a bloody clown.

Not for me I would rather we pick up Ben Foster I think he’s available on a free.
I think there is definitely value to be had in the market if you look for it, so Callum Wilson supposedly available for £10 million John Stones for £20 million both not too long ago part of the England set up they would if nothing else add depth to the squad without costing the earth and both the right side of 30.

Before lockdown I’d agree Dave, bloke infuriated me. Since lockdown though it seemed like something clicked, his performances and attitude were top notch, the way he was barking at the defence aswell, I liked that. Seems like a big character in the dressing room as well. Wouldn’t want him first choice, but back up keeper I wouldn’t grumble.

31 Jul 2020 16:54:40
I’m inclined to agree John, Foster is a top keeper still, even at the age of 37. He is however still under contract until 2022, but wouldn’t, I don’t think, cost the Earth.

31 Jul 2020 17:00:20
I see that we are being linked with Robin Olsen, Sweden’s
number 1 goalkeeper currently with Roma but out on loan I think.

31 Jul 2020 17:03:01
I used to have a dog chris, he barked like no other, and he was very loud, but did nothing else mate.
I worry about characters on the pitch chris, there are others in the dressing room.
Can`t help it mate, I don`t like him as a keeper, he looks so bloody clumsy.

31 Jul 2020 17:26:37
yeah I have seen that Mark, do you know anything about him mate, can`t see the link with Reina having any substance if that`s the case.

31 Jul 2020 18:07:20
10x better than nylan imo I like him keep him as number 2, to Heaton.

31 Jul 2020 18:07:28
Dave, I would think this could have a lot to do with our new SD, as Olsen was at Copenhagen for a few seasons.
Conceded a lot of goals in his first season at Roma and was subsequently loaned out to Cagliari. He was apparently outstanding for Sweden in the last World Cup, but I can’t honestly remember his performances.
He’s 30 and has a market value of around 6 million.
Personally, I would rather we went for Foster as backup to Heaton.

31 Jul 2020 18:33:10
Same here Mark.

31 Jul 2020 18:37:15
Without wishing to appear xenophobic, one of the areas we got wrong from a recruitment perspective last season was to predominantly buy from abroad. Whilst they may be cheaper in terms of fee and wages our recruits certainly struggled to come to terms with the pace and poet of the league I hope we are not going to go down that route again. If we are to improve as a squad then I think most of our recruits should come from premier league sides.

31 Jul 2020 19:10:45
Power🤣🤣🤣.

31 Jul 2020 19:32:17
Not a lot of running in goal John 😂😂😂🤣.

31 Jul 2020 19:33:05
Heaton and Steer should both be fit so I don't see a need for another keeper. Pepe nearly cost us against Arsenal, lucky didn't connect enough with his knee.
He started being more vocal which was a good thing but if we can get that out of Heaton and Steer we are better off.

31 Jul 2020 19:55:37
With the rate of goalkeeper injuries we’ve had rk, I would suggest 3 quality options should be the minimum.

31 Jul 2020 19:56:37
Dave fair play mate I guess I asked for that 🤣🤣 however it’s the principle I am trying to establish.

31 Jul 2020 20:06:46
The issue is that none of Heaton, Steer and Reina would consider being a number 3. It is almost unheard of to have 2 main keepers injured long term.
Nyland as a third for longevity is ok, he's not terrible and a composed defence in front of him will help his nerves.

31 Jul 2020 20:06:55
I know John hahaha.

31 Jul 2020 20:10:11
Pace could be important if our goalie needs to get up the pitch for a last minute corner in an attempt to grab an equalizer ( very likely as well playing for us ) 😂😂🤣.

31 Jul 2020 20:28:59
Personally I don’t see Steer or Nyland as being good enough as a number 2 choice whereas I think Foster would be, and would in fact provide competition for Heaton.

31 Jul 2020 20:30:03
Love it Mark 🤣🤣.

31 Jul 2020 22:33:22
Interested as to why you don't rate Steer mark?
I'll admit to not rating him when we took him off Norwich but comparing him to most top clubs second keepers I can't see any I'd consider more reliable. Just needs to learn that he can shout at people to do their jobs.

01 Aug 2020 06:53:23
I wouldn’t say I don’t rate him rk, I just think that if we could get a keeper of Foster’s quality for a small fee, that he would keep Heaton on his toes. I feel we need to ensure we constantly have quality between the sticks, especially when you look at the number of goals we conceded over the season.

Serious competition for places is important for all positions in the team.
Steer for me is ok for 3rd choice, Nyland I would loan out in the hope that he could conquer his nerves, become more vocal, and develop his game generally.

01 Aug 2020 10:25:22
Almost no club has 3 experienced keepers and there's no way Jed would go back to being a third choice.
He'd at least go on loan and start looking for a more permanent home for next season.

01 Aug 2020 11:55:15
Foster won't want to be no. 2 at this stage of his career. Haven't we still got Kalinic too or has he gone permanently?

01 Aug 2020 11:56:13
I don’t know rk, I haven’t asked him, have you mate?
He could definitely learn a lot from quality keepers like Heaton or Foster.
It’s not like it would be a closed shop, if he could improve, he could compete for the first choice slot.

01 Aug 2020 12:16:24
He went on loan last time we put him in the same position and openly said he thought he'd played his last game for us.
Third choice keepers get zero game time and he's now late 20's. If he has any ambition he won't stay just to hopefully go back to being a number 2 in a couple of years.

01 Aug 2020 12:41:21
I agree with rk re 3rd choice keeper I can’t see Nyland or Steer being happy with that but we supposedly have a number of decent keepers we have just lost Sarkic to Wolves and we have a Finnish lad sorry I can’t remember his name who is supposedly the best in Europe for his age group. If we are wanting to promote youth then surely as a third choice promoting him to the first team squad it would send a message to the academy players that if you are good enough there is a path through to the first team squad.

01 Aug 2020 12:54:29
We’ll see rk, but if we are to believe the rumours circulating it looks as if either Olsen or Foster will be coming in to compete with Heaton for the no.1 spot.
Maybe they feel the youngster Sinisalo has the ability to step in if required.
