Villa have appointed Johan Lange from FC Copenhagen as our new sporting director. Guys seems to have a good eye for talent but we will need to see who he buys for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

You say he has a good eye for talent but how many of those he has 'spotted have gone on to have a top career? Seems his biggest asset is seeing potential, signing them really cheap and selling them on for a profit a few years later. This isn't what Villa need. We need players who have already reached their potential and are ready to move us up a gear.

RHLT, are we ever happy when there is an appointment made, the bloke ain`t took his coat off yet and you are complaining.
You have probably never heard of him before today.
Who would you have appointed, and why.

30 Jul 2020 15:41:53
Sure RHLT I guess you could argue has he proven himself to be able to recruit talent that we need right now. However I trust in our owners.

Helped Copenhagen win leagues and remain competitive whilst consistently selling best players to line the owners pockets, knows what his doing clearly. Hopefully he can replicate the talent spotting at a higher level.

Sky sports news did an in depth look at FC Copenhagen. Their set up is identifying potential at a young age and nurturing it through to the 1st team. Success inevitably brings in big bids, they sell, but the next batch are already waiting to take their places. Constant conveyor belt of talent, income from sales and a sustainable model for a somewhat, no disrespect, club. What's not to get excited about if we can achieve similar? Plus us being a "bigger " club we need not need to sell any of our own batch of prodigies to constantly feed the premier league beast.
If you can find the article its well worth a read and may stir up a little excitement for Villa's future especially with the revamp of the academy. It won't happen overnight but moving forward it's a massive step in the right direction. Very similar to the Ajax model.

Villadave, I had heard of him before today as my uncle is a Wolves fan of many years and he said that Lange was just a yes man to Solbakken when he was the assistant manager at Molineux. In regards to winning the Danish League, its a 2 horse race so either FC Copenhagen or Brondby ever win it.

Who would I rather have you ask. Someone currently out of work with a proven track record is Damien Comolli. Worked at Monaco, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool and players he and his team scouted and brought to the PL include: Gael Clichy, Eboue, Kolo Toure, Luka Modric, Berbatov and Luis Suarez. He also recommended Jordan Henderson to Liverpool.

I understand that he also dealt with potential but he had a proven track record and is available.

Just being negative for negative sake, and backing your points up with nonsense RHLT.

“its a 2 horse race so either FC Copenhagen or Brondby ever win it. ” Midtjylland have won it two of the last three seasons, and Aalborg not long before that. Worth checking facts before you spout off.

Owners have acted quickly, would have obviously interviewed multiple candidates, give the guy a chance.

30 Jul 2020 18:42:29
So let me get this right. I've come on this opinion page and given my opinion but because some don't agree, I'm deemed to be negative? You ask me a question and explanation which I answer in full but I'm being negative for negatives sake.
No point asking questions if you ain't prepared to listen to an answer.

ChrisAVFC, I stand corrected on Brondby winning the league and it being a 2 horse race. It should be 3 horse, Copenhagen, Midtjylland and Aalborg.

Not complaining about your opinion RHLT, just pointing out that whoever walks through the door someone will complain.
I happen to think it is very premature to complain about someone who has not even met the players yet.
Surely its better to trust our owners, and give opinions when the dice have been rolled.

30 Jul 2020 19:13:58
You seem to be confused, so I will try and make “ backing your points up with nonsense RHLT” as clear as possible.

You said it was a two horse race implying Lange has had it easy, in the past decade 4 teams have won that title, your statement is not correct, and if you are using that to help your decision, you are misled.

Nothing to do with not wanting to have debate with different opinions, we have great back and forths on here, with multiple poster with all different view point. I myself didn’t ask you any question, just pointed out the incorrect information you provided when giving your opinion.

There’s something to be said for people who constantly claim to want something else. We have appointed him less than 12 hours ago, and you are already trying to discredit hit achievements and credentials. Give the man a chance.

30 Jul 2020 19:25:35
I'm prepared to give him a chance but when you look at his credentials, it appears that his role is to buy players young, nurture them then sell them for profit. I thought we would have appointed someone like the guy at Man City who looks for players to evolve the team over a longer period. I hope I'm proved wrong and he unearths some gems who will stay with us for a long time.

30 Jul 2020 19:58:20
We need to give this guy a chance, I think Suso’s card had been marked for some time and I would assume that the board will have researched the various candidates before settling on Lange his record at Wolves was as a coach not as a Director of Football totally different roles. Moose with regards to us bringing our own crop of youngsters through I am absolutely with you that has to be our aspiration but I doubt if we will ever manage to keep the out of the hands of the Premiership big guns, even when we a fairly competitive side we still lost the likes of Yorke and Young to Utd but we live in hope.

On a separate note do we know what’s happening re Terry? Based on the defensive capabilities our back four displayed for most of the season I am not sure what he brings to the coaching team i.

30 Jul 2020 20:46:27
Nothing for me John.
I have just been talking about him, not many fighting his corner.
I think he only has one eye on the ball, and that his aspirations lie/ lay elsewhere mate.

30 Jul 2020 21:27:38
Villajohn I agree that keeping our next generation out of the hands of the "Sky Super 6" will be a very big ask but we have to start somewhere and if we're producing players other teams covet then we're heading in the right direction. It may be a slow gradual climb to the top table in the land of milk and honey but as long as we show some ambition and steady progress in the seasons ahead it'll be a start. Speaking of which Carney Chukweza or however his last name is spelt lol signing his 1st contact with some of the big boys sniffing around is a plus point and clearly shows that Aston Villa still has some pull for players 👍.
