Theres a break in ffp next season but does that include championship clubs?

Agree0 Disagree0

It has to be all clubs. No club can be self sustainable for a whole season if for a large chunk of that season they either can't have fans or are only permitted up to around 25% capacity.

They may still run the rule over ffp but using a 3 year period not including seasons affected by the virus. That means at least for next season and probably one after there would be no reviews as they've already been done.

So when we go down if we want we can spend 200 million to get back up?

21 Jun 2020 13:25:55
Spending 200 million guarantees nothing.
Need a blueprint to restructure the whole club.
A system. Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Liverpool, Wolves. Its all about getting the infrastructure right and the rest follows. Everyone knows their job and no one is indespensable.

I would hazard a guess that they may investigate that clubs don't double or triple their wage expenditure during that period just because they aren't reviewed against their losses to stop people taking the micky.
Just wouldn't penalize them for losses outside of their control as difficult to prove what their ticket income would have been. Also a risk of sponsorships reducing dramatically without people in stadiums.

I absolutely agree that we need a blue print to follow as at the moment I am not sure everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet, the CEO talks about us developing a class youth infrastructure and we do have some more than useful kids and yet they struggle to even get on the bench despite our struggles. If we do get relegated then I think we will lose some of our more talented players Grealish McGinn Mings etc we can also get rid of some who aren’t good enough like El ghazi Trezuget Engels Elmo and a few others and bring some of the youngsters in like Ramsey O hare (if we can keep him) and augment with a few quality players currently plying there trade in the Championship like Lolley and Worrall from Forest Karlem Grant at Huddersfield and we will be ok.
However I know I keep banging on about this but changing. managers every year or two means we will achieve nothing our blue print should have key milestones against which the manager and board can be assessed against and imo the plan needs to be long term ie at least 5 years long. Whilst premiership status is important it is not the be all and end all the club needs to be on a sound footing not least financially to ensure our future long term as given where football is currently I do fear for some clubs and I don’t want us to be one of them.

Having got that off my chest I hope everyone is well and let’s keep hoping for a miracle UTV.

I do agree with everything you say John, and I think a lot of people do to be honest.
The bit about changing managers in theory is ideal I agree, but the way things have gone, I am a bit reluctant to stick with Deano, because of his steadfast ways an lack of enterprise.
I like the man a lot, but nothing changes, it appears he might be a yes man or is frightened of any backlash
Either way, for that reason youth will struggle to break through under Him.
One thing is for sure John, we must get rid of Terry ASAP.

23 Jun 2020 16:28:37
Dave you might be right on the yes man front but I am a great conspiracy theorist and I wonder whether the plan has all along been to get Deano to school Terry and at an appropriate time replace him with Terry I hope to god that’s not the case but I fear as soon as we are relegated that’s what will happen.

With regards to the kids he always seemed prepared to do it at Walsall and Brentford Rico Henry springs to mind but I guess it’s a little different when you have no money and therefore little option versus having plenty of options at a bigger club the only manager in recent times who seemed to be prepared to play a youngster or two Jack being the classic example was Tim Sherwood.

23 Jun 2020 18:10:43
A couple of good points there John, and can`t argue mate.
I would be very concerned if Terry got the managers job, that for me would be another step back, with a sprinkle of wishful thinking.

23 Jun 2020 18:45:48
If we do go down and Deano is replaced the interesting thing will be who by because I can’t think of too many stand out candidates.

23 Jun 2020 19:16:42
How about going German on a 3/ 5 year plan.
I give you Julian Nagelsmann, RB Leipzigs Manager.

{Ed002's Note - Why on earth would he be interested in joining AV.}

23 Jun 2020 19:48:21
I don`t know Ed, maybe he has aspirations of joining a very big club.
just a suggestion, we need to do something, a young manager like him might be what everyone needs, us and the manager.

{Ed002's Note - Zero chance of him joining Aston Villa from a Champions League side.}

23 Jun 2020 20:14:49
Well the thing is, we will probable not approach him, so we will never know will we.
To be honest I would be surprised if Leipzig progress far in the tournament anyway, but good luck to them.
So on that note, I think if Villa did offer him the post, I have no doubt he would sit down and make some serious considerations, as to what is possible at such an illustrious football club as ours.

{Ed002's Note - They will be in it regularly.}

23 Jun 2020 20:28:10
Ok, time will tell.

23 Jun 2020 21:42:46
For me I think we would have to set our sights a bit lower in the managerial stakes so for me my first choice would be Bilic international experience managed in premiership and the championship with better than average results whether he would come to us not sure but if you don’t ask you won't know. Failing that I think I would take a punt on Steven Gerrard although I never was his biggest fan he seems to be doing a decent job at Rangers.

23 Jun 2020 22:09:30
I think Gerrard is cutting his teeth ready for Liverpool, Clopp is going in two years I think.
