Hey all
First post in a long time, and new account to boot.
So after the debarcle that was a defeat to Bournmouth, it could well be a long season ahead.
We have a team of individuals which collectively would be worth 500 million (this makes us a top 20 team in world football in terms of value)
So what's going wrong, firstly in my opinion, we are trying to play like man city, with a short passing game. However there is no speed to our play in terms of opening up teams. So we are just passing it side to side with no purpose or breaking the lines and then putting in too many crosses as a last resort.
I think this 4-3-3/4-3-1-2 formation is good with the right personal. But we don't have the right players for this formation.
both of these formations due to their narrow nature require speed in certainly the front 3 and maybe the 1 of the midfielders.
I watched the man u vs brighton game with Brighton lining up in a 3-3-3-1 formation. To which they tore man united apart along with a lot of other teams last season .
I actually think it could work with the personal we have at the club which on paper are better than brighton

Interesting take Kenn, spot on with the slow build up which makes it so easy for teams to defend against us. Unfortunately with our form over the last dozen games i'm not sure we would get top dollar for the players you would get rid of.

I kind concur scott, but also i think we could get over 120m as people would pay for the dead wood

The problem we are going to have is a number of the players you are saying we should sell have been available for some time but we haven’t exactly been inundated with offers. In terms of who you would like to see coming in, Abraham has said he wants to stay at Roma playing European football. I believe Sangare has just signed a contract extension so I can’t see either of those coming and Ndombele has a bloody awful attitude so I wouldn’t want him anywhere near the squad. I don’t know enough about De Tomas but I agree we definitely need another front man.

I don't think more players is necessarily the answer, bar a ball playing No 8 (a "passer") I don't think we have a massive gap in the squad - I think Gerrard needs to get more from the players he has first of all, he's absolutely not doing that in his current set up so needs to go back to the drawing board and be more pragmatic.

What we have been lacking for several seasons is a controller, a pass master, a boss.
There are many quality players that don't look like they know where they are going.
I think Gerard has stated he needs a number 8. What is a number 8?
We have lots of muscle, lots of runners but few brains in the middle of the pitch.
Phil and Emi can cause chaos further forward but there does not appear to be the "turn to" player since Grealish left.
With all the players that have been bought Grealish has not been replaced.
Neither Phil nor Emi play the way Grealish played and so we are still missing the piece of the jigsaw that completes the team.
I am not a massive fan of Mings due to his simple errors, but Capt to sub is not a good move.
I am not a fan of Gerard either.
We all have a pride in what we do and words from your manager will not help when you lose your place. Has something gone on behind the scene that we don't know about.?
We are still waiting to see if Gerard is our Messiah.

Fully agree ?, we need the connective tissue between the midfield and the forwards - A ball playing No. 8 is the missing piece of the puzzle in terms of play acquisitions this summer as I don't think we'll attract better strikers than Ings and Watkins both of whom Gerrard needs to get more out of.

I kind of agree lord .
However will tammy want to stay if Dybala is given game time ahead of him . Especially as mourinho plays one up top .
Sangarha has signed a new contract yes . But as we found out historically does that matter.
Ndombele does have an attitude problem yes. but maybe that is just because he is french .
I know my suggestions was radical, but let's face it both smith and now gerrard have struggled to get the best out of our supposed star players on a regular basis . So for me i'm still with shipping our the dead wood and maybe a chnage of formation.
Something about having 3 center backs and cash /digne marauding forward with kamara holding infront of a back 3 just seems to sit right with me . but hey i know naff all ??
