I was reading an article re Gerrard and how he is going to play between now and the end of the season. The theory goes he is going to play 4 3 1 2 to see over a number of games whether Watkins and Ings can work together as a pair which I think is the right thing to do to be able once and for all whether it is worth keeping Ings. However if it does work then I think Gerrard will have some interesting decisions to make, firstly playing with no out and out wide men means Cash and Digne will provide the width that being the case I think we would play with 2 defensive midfielders to protect the centre backs, leaving 1 space for either Ramsey or McGinn so the question is which? If we sign Coutinho then either he or Buendia will play the attacking midfielder role behind the two strikers, and leaves me wondering what our recruitment strategy will be in the coming window for me I thought we would be looking at additional widemen such as Saint Maximin, Sarr or Raphina to play Gerrard's favoured 4 3 3 but maybe that's not the case and we will see something different. Interesting times.

I'd be amazed if we don't sign 2 Midfielders Ings - We will go back in for Bissoma, 100% convinced, and we'll sign a holding midfielder which will allow McGinn to play slightly further forward. We've definitely made a play for Kamara, whether we can pull that one off is yet to be seen, massive ask given the teams he's linked with - If we can get him, Bissoma, Coutinho, a CB and a striker in this summer (big ask I know) I think we can really push on next season - Any ideas who we might target?

Martinez

Cash, XXXX, Mings, Digne

McGinn, Kamara, Bissoma

Coutinho

XXXX, Watkins

In terms of a striker, we need somebody who can keep possession - Watkins for all his strengths is not a forward who holds the ball up particularly well so (if the intention is to play a 4,3,2,1) we need a striker with a good technical ability. We don't have a snowballs chance in hell of signing him sadly but Alexander Isak would be absolutely ideal I think.

In terms of CBs, again we need somebody with good technical ability, a progressive CB - Villa (and every club in Europe most likely) will be targeting this type of player in the summer, I'm convinced, any suggestions who we may target?

BK for me the striker I would go all out for is Patrick Schick at Leverkusen for me he’s got everything can hold the ball up bring others into play and most importantly scores goals. In terms of midfield I have always liked Bissouma and I think he would be a quality addition, Kamara as well but like you I don’t think we have a cat in hells chance of getting him. I also like Seko Fofana an Ivory Coast international who plies his trade with Lens in Ligue1, good on the ball, good in the tackle and chips in with the odd goal and assist and wouldn’t be that expensive. The central defender is a bit of a conundrum for me I am not convinced by the little we have seen of Gomez that as of now he is any better than what we have he seems to have lost a yard of pace to me but in fairness that’s based on the little I have seen of him. We have been linked with Caleta Car at Marseille and Szalai at Fenerbache and I said at the end of the Euro,s they would be good additions for us. The other centre back I like is Akanji at Dortmund but whether we could persuade Dortmund to sell given they are losing Haaland is unlikely.

Schick would be an excellent addition, I wonder does he fall under the same unrealistic umbrella as Iask though? I've been really impressed with Marc Guéhi this season, unlikely that Palace would sell to us but he would certainly improve our defence. Alternatively, Levi Colwill has been absolutely sensational this season for Huddersfield, again Chelsea are unlikely to let him go but could be one to keep an eye on.

It's going to be an interesting summwer, we will target a much higher calibre of player I'm sure - I just hope we are smarter than last summer and avoid the same JWP / ESR mistakes where agents play us for improved player contacts. If we can get this right and address the imbalance in the squad I'm convinced we can really push on next season.

We might have a chance with Schick in that Leverkusen seem to operate a similar model to Dortmund in that they seem to sell one star player each summer transfer window last season it was Bailey the year before that Havertz and before that Julian Brandt also we have obviously had dealings with them before which appear to have gone well. In fairness I think it would take a mega offer maybe £60 million plus but if we want a proven goalscorer in today’s market it’s going to take that sort of money to land one.
