Bailey injured again, part of me was glad to see him going off, not the kind of game where he can be so greedy, we won't get many chances and his greed messed up 2 very good chances when it was still 0-0

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully not a serious injury, a lot of fixtures coming up.
Not a great deal of quality tonight but it was against City afterall. Nice to see Watkins have a decent game and get a goal and the whole team worked really hard.overall, a a tough night but one we can take pride in with all the players leaving it on the pitch. Nice to see the crowd acknowledging that at the end too.

He offered nothing. Young so much better when he replaced him. Thought buendia and Luiz were excellent tonight

Whack agree with that all the way,two good chances one pass away .Wonder how long he will be off this time .

Nakamba man of the match again imo. We don't need another defensive mid. Kante isn't a world class ball player himself yet he's the best in the world at what he does.
Bailey fluffed our best chances but he's still not had a chance to get up to speed with the team and you could see how much it hurt him getting injured again. Like with Sanson, there is a player there if they can stay fit for long enough.
I think Gerrard maybe pushed them just slightly over the line in training. I understand his reasons but when Mcginn is huffing within 5 minutes it shows.
We were much better when he allowed us to attack more. Smith proved in our last 2 games against City that we're better when we try to give them a game and luckily Gerrard came to the same conclusion at half time before it was way too late.
We still lost but 2-1 to a team even with their injury list is still better than 90% of the league is a fairly positive result.

I'm not saying Bailey has set the world on fire, but the guys barely played half a dozen games since signing for us and has had bad luck with injuries.sounds a bit harsh to be writing him off this early.

02 Dec 2021 00:27:13
Come on guys, this guy just hasn't got, i'm not convinced he was injured, he just wanted out, he has joined the other poor signings, my bet he won't be a starter for the rest of the season. We were out passed and outplayed for the first half, second half showed passion and backbone, Gerrard will see the second half of the benchmark for the future. Buendia really is trying his best and i think he will continue to improve under Gerrard. Could have been a disaster tonight but came out with respect.

I thought buendia had probably his best game for us tonight, his flicks and tricks worked well, lots of little 1-2’s, hopefully it gives him confidence for the next game, Ollie had a great game he seems to be back to what he done best last season, definitely better when he’s a lone striker, such a handful for defenders, Chuck was unlucky he probably should of put his foot through it first time, he is young he will learn from it, hats off to young he is performing really well since gerrard came in, we had some great performances and only beaten on the night by probably one of the best goals you will ever see, just a shame we were playing city, Silva really is something else, that pass was pretty exquisite to, unbelievable goal. lots of positives to take from it

{Ed0666's Note - Silva’s not a patch on his namesake that used to play for city

Personally, I mainly blame the manager for the loss. His formation and tactics weren't great, and they weren't effective enough. I believe that he isn't the right man to take us forward. I may anger certain Aston Villa-fans, but so be it. I'm just being realistic here.

02 Dec 2021 08:15:56
Sorry Hinch but I tend to disagree.
Our manager has had 3 games with the team with very little time with the team because of the International games and in that time we have seen a great improvement.
Judge him at the end of the Season, not now.

AkaVilla, what if it doesn't work out until the end of this season? Wouldn't most Villa-fans still say: "We should keep him until next season. Don't sack him." Or something like that. Just because he did well at Rangers doesn't mean he will do well at Aston Villa. The Scottish league is easier than the Premier League, so it's no wonder at all that he did well there. If a proven manager is not appointed until then, I'm not going to be happy with Gerrard.

Hinch, I have always been a DS fan but towards the end of his reign I thought we were sleepwalking towards Disaster.
I will admit I had other replacement managers in mind but was willing to give SG a chance. I believe he has not been found wanting so far. In addition he has shown he will put an 18 year old in if he will make a difference and from the reports I have seen he has the players behind him.
To sum up 3 matches is not a good gauge on his ability and we are certainly seeing more life in the team than in the recent past.
Time will tell…….

I agree aka, palace and Brighton were in good form when we played them and we got the results, city are a different class and to have them hanging on at the end was a real testament to the team and manager, I do think Bailey will be better used off the bench as an impact sub, give gerrard 10 games then we’ll have a conversation about it, next few games are also tough ones so, he hasn’t had the easiest of opponents to start his reign, give it some time, the stadium looked to be behind him last night

02 Dec 2021 12:55:50
Hinch, you must be joking. gerrard been here for 5 mins and you're on his back already. Irrelevant of our opinions of scottish football, the man has pedigree. There are a number of managers who have come from nowhere, including scotland to do very well in england, a certain mr ferguson comes to mind, pochitino, gullit, etc etc. We all loved Deano but sadly it didn't work out. Give the man a chance or go back under your rock

02 Dec 2021 18:50:17
I'm not agreeing with Hnch but to say Brighton and Palace were in good form is a stretch.
Brighton were actually on a horrid run of results and Palace while unbeaten in 7 had drawn about 5 of those.
Neither team turned up against us and the same people praising Gerrard for those results and the manner of them would have called Smith lucky.
Smith got slated for playing Young in midfield but when Gerrard did it against Brighton is was suddenly a masterstroke.
We've done OK so far and I'll stick with the team regardless. There hasn't been much time but I'm not seeing much difference other than Nakamba getting the run he always should have had.

Alright, I hope he succeeds with Aston Villa.
