Talking of good British strikers Paul Mariner has sadly passed away, RIP Paul.
Don’t think anyone would pick anyone above Kane, he is without doubt one of the best British strikers of all time.
Where would you rank him on the all time list against the likes of Rooney, Linekar, Greaves, Charlton etc. ?

{Ed001's Note - I never saw him play and know absolutely nothing about him to rank him, sorry. I know the name, I remember his sticker in a Panini as a small child, but that is it.}

No sorry Ed, what I meant was, where would you rank Kane on an all time list.

{Ed001's Note - ohhh sorry. He wouldn't get near a top 10. Even just Liverpool have 3 clearly better than him in Rush, Liddell and Dalglish, then there is the likes of Greaves etc at other clubs. Good as he is, he is not at their level. Put him on the pitches they played on back then and he would not be half the player he is, let alone if defenders were able to actually tackle his weak ankles. I bet you could go through any team in the Prem and pick a couple of better strikers from their history. So I can't see how Kane could make the top 10.}

It surprises me you say that when you look at his strike rate for club and country, and as you so rightly say in your review, there’s a lot more to his game than just scoring goals.

{Ed001's Note - he is a fantastic player, but he is playing on bowling greens, getting lots of penalties for little to no contact which inflate the numbers, and no one is allowed to actually make a proper tackle these days. When you look at the way players would tackle the likes of Greaves, but his scoring record is incredible too. Liddell used to hit the ball so hard keepers admitted that they just got out the way rather than get injured. He used to burst the ball regularly when kicking it, in fact he once burst a ball with a header! The striking technique it takes to smash a ball with power on a bad pitch is exceptional.

Don't get me wrong, it is much better to watch on good pitches, but there is a reason why the best players tend to come from poorer countries now. Their technique is better because they are playing on crap, makeshift pitches.}

Lol maybe they should rough up the training ground pitches a bit then, to produce better players.

{Ed001's Note - I honestly think they should put kids on worse pitches and stop giving them everything so perfect in academies.}

I’m going to release a few moles at Bodymoor Heath 😂.

{Ed001's Note - the groundsman would have a fit! I trained for a while as a groundsman, got to go up Melwood and Bellefield with the college like, and the groundsmen used to get annoyed with the players for using the pitches as it messed them up. They would grumble about them not using the artificial pitches instead. I can only imagine the moaning if moles got in! Though obviously not at Melwood or Bellefield any more. Showing my age there.}

It’s a good debate re players of the past versus the modern day player and personally I agree with Ed 001 I think good players in days gone by would still be great players now, I am not so sure the same could be said in reverse. That’s why when it comes to evaluating who was the best player you ever saw live I always say Best because his ability, balance, and goal scoring on any type of pitch was unbelievable I always remember a tackle from Chopper Harris which is the nearest thing I have ever seen to GBH on a football pitch I have ever seen and yet he managed to stay upright and I say this as someone who detests Utd.

{Ed001's Note - he was incredible fair play.}
