As we are supposedly looking at a couple of widemen and a number of us have identified potential targets, one that we looked at last close season was Eze anyone fancy us making a cheeky enquiry, better option than McNeill in my opinion.

I always think with players like Eze, Bowen etc once they make the step up and prove themselves, we’ve missed the boat.

People won’t like to hear this but there isn’t much between us and palace, finishing 2 or 3 places above them counts for nothing really. Living in London will count for more to the modern player. I’d imagine Grealish would be a factor, but then he plays with a very talented player in Zaha who is probably by now a close friend and mentor.

So when it comes to signing someone like Eze, we’ll be paying more than double what we could have got him for last season, and we’re dealing with a player who isn’t now thinking “yes premier league move, big step up” they are now thinking “well, is this a sideways step”.

On Eze as a player, I rate him highly, I can’t remember whom it was, may have been Dave, but me and another poster were raving about him last summer and wanting us to get him at all costs. His gone on to do exactly what I thought he would and no doubt he’ll kick on further next season.

But now to me he doesn’t represent the value he once did and for the price we’d have to pay I don’t think he’d be worth it, more value elsewhere abroad etc.

Chris, I get the point about being in London and I am sure you are right and I also think you are right I terms of the size of the fee, however where I think we have a advantage is that in the last 2 years we have developed a number of our players to such an extent that they are either in, or on the verge of the England squad, other than Zaha I don’t remember any Palace players being anywhere near that level, the other thing I would say is even if the fee is double I would rather pay £30 million for Eze than McNeill.

Good point Gaz, in terms of England chances we have helped Targett, Konsa, Cash’s chances massively, and already got Mings, Watkins and Grealish in the door, so good point👍

I still think they’d want a hell of a lot more than 30million, as soon as a player has 5 decent performances in the prem it’s like their price is suddenly around the 50 million mark.

Well that’s the way it’s been say the last 3 seasons, I said similar about Mcneils price the other day, but we are now in unknown territory, the first window coming out of CV, reports every day about a new club struggling etc. I don’t know enough about other clubs finances, owners and the like, but I do know we have money behind us, and we haven’t been shy in spending so far. Could this be a window where the clubs with money can take advantage, get money off players because their clubs need the income? I don’t know, it’s all speculation at this point but we will find out this summer.

Like you I’d rather Eze than McNeil, but I’d rather we find value elsewhere, problem is this year is the stand out players in the championship have got promoted, in Sarr and Buendia. No one jumps to mind as a massive stand out outside of them two. And now they are promoted we aren’t half as attractive as what we were when they were championship clubs.

Chris, I think we are a better option for players than any of the promoted sides if I am honest, as you say we have money behind us we are going to spend big again this year and in the coming seasons I can see us challenging in the cups as well as pushing to get into the top 6, I can ‘t see that for Watford, Norwich or Palace for that matter, in fact I think Palace have something like 11 of the first team squad out of contract in the summer so I think they are really in a state of flux and I see them really struggling next year.

By the way who is Gaz 🤣🤣.

Completely miss read the name sorry John😂😂

I see what your saying but at this point, we’re one season mid table, whilst we’ve seen drastic improvements, I can’t see it being significantly more appealing than majority of the rest of the league, for now.

100% agree Chris, we've missed the boat on Eze unless we want to spend big, we need to pick these lads up before they bang in the Premiership.
