Clueless players, clueless tactics, clueless manager, stick with Smith and we will be relegated next year. In the end apart from an extra 3 wins this season was not much different in the end from last season. If you have, Barkley * Traore, Mcginn, Elghazi, Luiz, Mings, Trez, in your starting side you would not even challenge in the championship. We should have seen enough in the last 12 games to realise the problems.

Scotcaffu, another insightful post. Thing is we did have the majority of players on your list when we were in the championship and guess what. we won promotion! We played some good stuff at times tonight and definitely didn't deserve to lose. Remember they're fighting to stay up and we've got nothing to play for.

BTW, if there is nothing to play for, why is it that people don`t think the youngsters should be given game time, the time is perfect.

It wouldn’t necessarily have been a weakened team.
Elmo was caught for pace on several occasions when Sandwell countered. One of Hayden’s strengths is his pace.
Smith will need a back up for Cash next season and it’s unlikely Elmo’s contract will be extended. Guilbert is doing well at Strasbourg and will likely wish to remain there.
Villa will already have to get the chèque book out for a replacement left back, surely they don’t want to be doing the same for a right back.
This was an ideal occasion to give Hayden his first taste of first team football, if nothing else but to assess if Villa could have a replacement right back already in their ranks.
I would much prefer it if the money available in the Summer was spent on areas where we need strengthening. Those areas have been discussed to great lengths already on this site, so I don’t think I have to state where they are again.
