We have debated on this site for a while about our need for another striker to compete with Ollie and maybe take us onto the next level, and a lot of the focus has been on Tammy returning to B6 permanently. Whilst I like him as a player i think I would want a striker who would give us something significantly different to what we have now and what I mean by that is we have wide players and full backs who can deliver quality crosses into the box but we rarely have anyone to get on the end of them, to be fair that isn't Ollie's strength and I don't think it's Tammy' either I wonder therefore whether to give us greater options up front and an obvious plan B when plan A isn't working whether or not we might be better off targeting someone like Mitrovic an old fashioned target man type who holds the ball up well and brings others into play this would give us that different option we have needed on occasion. In addition he would be a cheaper option than Tammy and we could invest more in creative options in midfield any thoughts?

Donyell Malen would be my pick, but as you’ve suggested maybe we need a striker that offers something different to Watkins, Malen is similar, with a bit more pace and maybe a bit less physicality.

I wouldn’t mind Tammy or Mitrovic.

{Ed077's Note - Malen also is attracting interest from "bigger sides" with all due respect to Villa.

That’s a good shout, Milik would be my 1st choice and half the price though

{Ed077's Note - Isn't he joining OM permanently in the summer?

Fairly sure Marseille do have the option to buy Milik, which they almost certainly will for just 8 million, especially if he does well between now and the end of the season.
Milik does have a history of knee injuries though which could be a concern.
Mitrovic is a good shout John, great in the air, and as strong as an ox, he certainly outmuscled Mings on Sunday He knows where the net is as well, and has a good strike rate at club level and an even more impressive one for his country, 41 in 64 matches.
If Fulham go down, which looks likely, he would be eager to stay in the top flight and might be available for a reasonable price.
Good to see you back posting again John 👍.

{Ed002's Note - l'OM are committed to buy subject to three conditions which, if not met, would allow that obligation to be reversed and he would then return to Napoli.}

If you want a big strong old fashioned style centre forward, there's not many better in the Premier league than Chris Wood at Burnley.

Ed077, Marseille have a €12M loan to buy agreement but Milik has the option to turn it down as I understand it, if we’re being honest and no disrespect to OM, he’s gone there to put himself in the shop window, they are a backwards step having played for Ajax and Napoli, Ligue 1 ain’t the Prem, he’d be a perfect fit for Villa at that price, but I think we might spend triple that on a striker as a statement of intent, something else I can see is Wesley going on a season loan to maybe Italy, I remember Lazio were sniffing around him at some point

{Ed077's Note - thanks for the info

Just read an article from the Mercato, written 5 days ago that suggests Marseille will buy Milik for 10 million in the Summer, but there is a hidden clause in his contract allowing him to be re-sold immediately for 12 million. It goes on to say that this clause will be activated by Juventus, where Milik apparently wanted to go to in the first place once his contract ran down at Napoli.
Looks like you can kiss goodbye to that one Ally 🥺.

{Ed002's Note - How can it be a "hidden clause" - a club can, after signing a player sell them on right away. That is not the plan of l'OM - someone is teasing you.}

Fair enough Ed, I don’t know how reputable Foot Mercato is with their information, but they are basically saying he’ll be going to Juventus this Summer.

{Ed002's Note - That will be a surprise and a financial loss to Marseille then Mark.}

I think Mitrovic would be perfect for us, he has been mentioned many times on here by a lot of people, so I think he would be a popular addition.

Reading all the points above and I’m including myself in this, we’re all looking for a bargain, Milik at the prices quoted, Mitrovic could be cheaper if Fulham go down, both fine players and ‘gettable’ but with our owners we can spend more than that on that Holy Grail 20+ goals per season striker. As for Juve wanting Milik, I think they’d rather keep Morata and he’d be 1st choice for them even if they signed Milik. My priority signing is always going to be on a CDM but a true 1, not someone who can play there, and given the service Ollie could be the 20+ goals striker, he needs help though, that’s why I personally wouldn’t go big on a striker, who knows what the management will decide though 🤷🏼‍♂️

The Milik point keeps coming up and seems we always get to the same conclusions, either option to buy at OM, or he’s got much better options (I. e. Juve), it’s starting to get into the beating a dead horse territory.

Cheers for the info on Malen Ed👍 Not surprised to be honest, every time I’ve seen him he looks very promising, a lot of his movement etc just looks natural.
