Speaking with my Dad today, he thinks Oli Watkins plays like Gerry Hitchens, the way he floats across the front line, chasing down the defenders. Any of our older posters agree?

Gerry Hitchens was my favourite Villa player when I was a lad and I was lucky to see him play before he left for Italy.
In some ways Ollie does remind me of Gerry but I like to think of him (Ollie) having his own unique playing style.

Gerry " Scratchins" Hitchens was a cracker, a real c/ f.
Always a handful, played hard for 90 mins.
Watkins could be similar.
After some great games he got a transfer to Inter Milan for the incredible fee of £85000 or there abouts
He came from Cardiff City while still in the army and villa saw the best of him on his demob.
He scored 5 out of 11 against Charlton and my Dad was really pi. ed off as it was the only game he missed all season.
I think he passed away at a young age.

OV, he died of an heart attack when playing in a charity match at the age of 48.

I knew that he was a youngster but not aware of the circumstances.
