The emotions from last night will have dampened given it's nearly 24, hours ago. Obviously there were frustrations and dependent on which camp you are in deserved the varying amounts of criticism from minor to severe.
A genuine question without any agenda I would like to ask and welcome feedback. If and obviously it is an if, results and performances are similar to the last eight games what should be done to address things, both short and long term.

I have critized Deano and in some cases in my opinion I think these are justified, however I haven't gone as far as saying get rid. I hope and want him to succeed because if he is still our manager next season it will mean he has addressed both the tactical side and strengthened the personel, without both I genuinely think we will struggle and reverse any progress that has been made.

Agree0 Disagree0

I want him to succeed as well Scotty, and I also think he needs time to adjust to the Premiership.
Given that he gets the time, he should become more aware of how to respond to game patterns, and how to counteract things.
I think the next window will be defining in which direction we are going, and maybe 4 or 5 good signings will give him even more time.
Quality in midfield is paramount, and a top notch C/ F is also a must, no question.
Oh and move Terry on.

Totally concur Dave.

Short version-
Team - work in progress
Manager- work in progress
Bugbear- timing of substitutes
Summary- Rome wasn't built-in
in a day.

Exactly moose.

Simple stuff works for me, it's not rocket science so should be easy to implement.

04 Mar 2021 21:01:21
Say that to Klopp then Scott.

Happy to comment on Deano, don't really care about the scousers.

Why move Terry on?

04 Mar 2021 22:03:46
Because I don`t think he offers us anything. other than his name.
His thinking is elsewhere, and at times it shows in his demeanor.
It was widely agreed on here 12 months ago, that we felt he was doing nothing of benefit for our defenders, we were poor and shipping goals for fun, hence we nearly went down.
Secondly I think our defending has improved 80%, since the arrival of
Craig Shakespeare, whether that is coincidence or not, its a fact.

I don’t quite understand how you can come to that assessment of, his mind being elsewhere due to his “demeanour”. His passion on the sidelines, running back and forth from the touch line to the higher area (at home games) where Smith, Terry and Shakespeare sit as and when the manager requires, social media activity, his active presence in all the discussions the management team are seen to be having during games, all seem to tell quite the opposite to his mind being elsewhere.

Our defending has no doubt improved since last season as a whole that’s a fact, but that does not tell the full story by any means. Following on from the break in last season due to CV, we achieved over 40% of our clean sheets for the entire season in the final 10 games, so what a little over 25% of the season? Opposition shots on target more than halved for that period in comparison to the 3/ 4 of the season before the break. So the defence had made significant improvement a long time prior to Shakespeare joining, fact. Couple this with the confirmed information that we know about our coaches, in that Neil Cutler is the Goalkeeper and set pieces coach, and outside of that, we have no idea what the other three main coaches are responsible for, if they all have individual areas or are all involved in the whole picture.

With all that in mind, you can see why I’m puzzled by the suggestion we should move him on. He’s been nothing but good for this club, since he joined as a player, then as a coach. Left his ego at the door, fought our corner and by all available quotes and snippets he’s been willing to learn and apply himself with our best interests in mind. it seems as though when things are going wrong, he’s at fault, yet when things are going right, best defence we’ve had in nearly a decade, he doesn’t get a mention, something doesn’t quite sit right about that, seems very disrespectful.

Nothing you have said has changed my mind Chris, nor will it.
If you can`t understand what I am saying, sorry but I can`t help you.
I have given a reason and that is all I can do mate.

Totally agree Chris, I can understand a few minor frustrations with tactics, timing of subs etc every now and then, but how anyone can think Terry needs to be moved on is beyond me. We have a defensive unit that is the envy of many, players being linked with England call ups and some of the best stats in the league. unless anyone has any genuine inside info, insight or legitimate reasons to 'get rid', this just seems like aimless venting and looking for a problem that doesn't exist.

{Ed077's Note - how is it a good thing that your players can't get a call up ahead of Mediocre Maguire?}

05 Mar 2021 08:35:05
Just thought I’d give you some facts Dave to consider, instead of his “demeanour”, telling you his mind is elsewhere. You tell us all at every opportunity how straight down the line you are, fact based, no nonsense, find it fix it etc etc, but now on this one you don’t want the facts and your a body language expert, with which you also didn’t provide any further depth into other than “his demeanour”.

You didn’t like him last season and used the defence to back it up, fair enough. The defence improved, we stayed up, now you haven’t anything to back it up with, and you’ve gone with “his demeanour”, come on, do me a favour. Call it how it is.

Ed - My point was simply that the team have progressed from looking almost certain to go down to being in the top half and having various people calling for our players to be considered for the England team - a pretty good indicator that the coaching set up at Villa is doing at least a reasonable job.

{Ed077's Note - well my point is Maguire is very very average at best🤣🤣
