Watching the Leicester game hoping for a few injuries 🤞been thinking about Sunday's game and would it be an idea, with Cash out, to play Hayden right back with Elmo in front or would we go Elmo and Trez? It might be a good idea to play a 4-5-1 with Leicester being in good form and ours being sketchy, I'd go
Martinez
Hayden Konsa Mings Targett
Elmo Luiz Nakamba Sanson Grealish
Watkins
Thoughts?

Agree0 Disagree0

Unsure if that's for my suggested team or the 10 man comment Chris? 🤔😁.

I think you can make an educated guess moosey boy😉😂

I like the team you’ve put out, I probably wouldn’t drop Luiz and McGinn, just to try and keep some continuity, so drop one of them, keep the other.

With Hause and Cash injured, if we were ever going to see a young defender on the bench, now is the time. So even if not starting, I’d love to see Hayden on the bench. I probably wouldn’t go for a starting spot for him, just because it really is right in the deep end putting him in against Leicester right now. But off the bench last 20/ 30 minutes, would be brilliant experience.

Hayden was comfortable when up against Sadio Mane in the cup game, and he has the pace that Elmo lacks. Leicester have pacy players and I think Elmo will struggle, particularly against Barnes. I would have no qualms about putting Hayden in but I would be very surprised if Deano plays him.
I think Sanson and Nakamba would give our midfield more solidity and energy. Sanson loves to run at defenses with the ball and I think this would open things up for Jack a lot more. People say he’s been negated in recent games but I think it’s been more a case of lack of movement around him. Sanson’s work rate and energy would be a stark contrast to Barkley’s recent pedestrian type showings.

I have to agree Mark, the only difference is that I would start with Elmo and see how he fare`s against Barnes.
If speed is a problem for Elmo, get him off and give Hayden his chance, even if its only to track and distract Barnes.
Sanson would be a must for me, and I would start Nakamba as well.
Sanson has far more energy, drive and physicality than Barkley, and we will need that against a very quick Leicester side.

I know the U23’s did us proud against Liverpool but I think with time the performance has got better than it was. Hayden did ok against Mane, at times, but that’s about it. Elmo did us well at times last season, deserves his chance.

Elmo’s contract is up in June, can anybody see it being extended? If not then perhaps Guilbert will come back as back up/ competition for Matty, next season. If Fred doesn’t return, we could splash out for another right back or we could have a good look at Hayden and potentially save ourselves money. This is a golden chance to do just that, the kid did well last time out, give him another chance to prove he can do it again and let’s start looking towards the future.

The main difference this season is that any youth member promoted into the 1st team is coming into a very settled side, take Ramsey against wolves. I expect Hayden to at least be on the bench but wouldn't be against him starting as he's clearly got the pace to cope with the in form Barnes, something that Elmo may probably struggle with- hence my suggestion of doubling up down the right- very similar to West Ham with Coufal and Fredericks. Elmo's experience and Hayden's youthful exuberance may just negate Barnes's threat 🤔🤞.
