Well 2020 has been a terrible year for all of us losing loved ones and people self isolating for one reason or another let's hope 2021 will be a better year for us all. I am so so proud of the Football Club that I love and long may that continue Deano and all the staff have done a quite remarkable job including our fantastic chairmen who would have thought we would be where we are 4 years ago? On a special note I would just like to show my appreciation to every single ED on here who without them we would not have a site like this you my Sirs and Ladys are brilliant on that note I would just like to wish you all a Very Happy New Year and a prosperous one too GOD BLESS.

{Ed001's Note - happy new year to you dad and all the posters and lurkers as we enter the year pronounced 2020 won!}

Well said Daz, but hey I didn’t know Ed001 was your Dad 🤔😂.

31 Dec 2020 11:01:29
Or rather you were Ed’s Dad lol 😂.

{Ed001's Note - oh bugger! Bloody autocorrect. I just saw what happened there, was wondering what you meant then. Apologies, meant daz. That will teach me to check back through before clicking submit.}

No problem ed I mean son.

{Ed001's Note - well I am only young so it could be possible....}

31 Dec 2020 11:20:49
Ed it’s nice to know even you don’t get it right sometimes mate.

{Ed001's Note - sometimes? I think most of the time would be closer!}

31 Dec 2020 11:44:07
Easy mistake to make as I'm a young at heart 51 year old and I pass for a 25 year old I mean is it wrong for me to still party in Ibiza as I like doing although I must admit wearing a luminous yellow sweat band and matching leg warmers are a bit of a give away for my age.

31 Dec 2020 11:47:03
Happy New Year to you Ed, you’re doing a great job mate, it’s never going to be an easy job keeping us passionate supporters in check. Keep up the good work 👍.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, every day is still a learning experience though. There has not been one day across these sites where I have not done something I wished I hadn't or not done something and realised afterwards I should have done something. The Villa site is not too bad most of the time though, you are fairly easy, apart from when someone called markdavfrance called Stevie Nicol an average player, I did have to bite my lip then to stop from replying! Crap pundit, in fact probably the worst pundit as he makes a blown lightbulb seem bright, but he was an incredible player for Liverpool. One of the best in that 80s team. Not impressed with him as a guy though, he turned up to represent LFC at a charity gig my uncle was doing and just stood at the bar downing pints until the Carlsberg rep with him dragged him out.}

I must admit when I wrote it, I wondered if you might bite mate, knowing your allegiance to Liverpool. He was a good full back but I still think he would have struggled to have dealt with Jack as do most.

{Ed001's Note - he wasn't just a good full-back, he was a world class full-back, honestly. He was also a top class midfielder. In fact he could literally play anywhere and look like it was his natural position. I very much doubt he would have struggled to deal with Jack in his day as the diving and screaming for free kicks wouldn't have worked on refs back then.}

31 Dec 2020 13:19:24
Well there you go mate, that’s got that off your chest 😂.

{Ed001's Note - it's quiet so I thought I would say it now. When the conversation is flowing between you lot, there is no need for me to stick my oar in, so I prefer to leave you to it. I have to say though, I really do not like football without crowds, all the screaming from players makes me want to run on and kick them properly. I half expect me ma to run over like she used to do to me as a kid if I did something like that and give them a belt so they had something to cry for! The modern day player is such an embarrassment, and I am not just talking about Grealish in this, I am talking about in general, the way they fall over at the slightest touch. The worst though is the commentators and pundits with the way they jump on the back of any foreign player who does it, while lauding any English player who then does the same thing 20 seconds later and calling it clever play. Ah shoot, let me put my soap box away now!}

31 Dec 2020 14:37:51
Succinctly put Ed001 👍.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Moose and happy new year mate.}

31 Dec 2020 14:58:53
And to you and all the Ed's 👏👏.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate.}

31 Dec 2020 15:57:45
You're absolutely right about modern players being an embarrassment, Grealish included. The diving and cheating is an absolute joke. This alongside var are ruining the sport imo. However, whilst I can't currently get in to the ground I do prefer to hear the players and not some dodgy fake crowd noise. Even sitting front row of the Holte I hear less screaming and swearing from the players than I do now on tv, but it's interesting to hear.

{Ed001's Note - agreed on that Dave! It is the fake crowd noise I particularly dislike. It just feels like a horrible buzzing noise in the ears and bears no relation to the game most of the time. I hate it. I watch a lot of games for player profiles or research for articles, and a lot of them are behind closed door games etc anyway, I find I prefer to hear what is said. You learn so much. Like watching Everton you can hear that the person doing the shouting and giving tactical instructions from the sidelines is Ancelotti's son, not Carlo himself. When watching Arsenal a few months back you could hear Arteta constantly sniping at Lacazette until Lacazette lost his cool with him and started screaming back at him. You would never notice them with the fake crowd noise.}

31 Dec 2020 16:53:05
Yeah I agree. It's incredible how the referees allow so much direct swearing, even at the ref themselves. I now also hear how players from opposite teams interact, calling each other cheats and using the f word in every sentence. They're worse than us fans for the swearing! Watching Villa, I know hear Dean Smith more than any other voice or sound. I think having no fans has allowed us to be more directly managed from the touchline because the players can hear Smith so much clearer. Interesting point re Everton. I didn't know that.

{Ed001's Note - I think it has made clear how much we need to have officials mic'ed up for the future and to be able to listen in.}
