Ed 02,
I don't know if you don't like Villa, Villa fans, Grealish or the entire AVFC
Yes FFP is around but why do you regard yourself as more knowledgeable
than AVFC fans? A lot of the people that chat on here are professional people with knowledge of football and finance.
Yes we value Jack above your estimates and that is not unusual.
Smith has said that Jack will not go for a penny less than £80m and I believe him. If a few of the present top teams want him then his price could rise beyond the stated figure.
We are not all silly Villa supporters but we do have a desire to see Villa develop into the team we want to see.
Our owners hold the same conviction that we, the supporters, want to achieve European football at VP.
I am in awe of pundits that have vast knowledge and are able to talk at length.
You will probably destroy this post
as rubbish but it is my reflection on the response you are able to give as an ED. to those posters with whom you disagree.

{Ed002's Note - I find this constant whining and the lack of an understanding of the situation to be almost unique in respect of the Aston Villa fans - in terms of the price of Grealish it was the idiotic suggestions that Aston Villa would get £120M to £140M for him. Perhaps you should have listened to what Smith and I said. So I really don't get why you are whining at me.}

Very good post Oldvillan, and nicely put mate.

Ed, I’m not whining here, just interested in your opinion.
Do you think any player in the premier league is worth 100 million +? because I don’t see any player currently impressing more so than Jack Grealish is.

{Ed002's Note - Apologies for thinking you were whining. I would think perhaps Sadio Mane and Harry Kane would be the most expensive if they were put up for sale and could potentially tip the £100M threshhold. I expect Manchester City to certainly look to Grealish next summer and perhaps Manchester United to do the same if thyey can sort out the mess they have and a way forward - and the sort of figure that they would look to would likely be in the region of £70M-£80M. Regardless of being a little Johnny Jerkoff when not on the pitch, there is no doubt Grealish is a very good player and selling him would provide the funds to buy his replacement in someone like Milot Rashica (if he can be persuaded to move), Ross Barkley (AM/CM) and a versatile defender such as Mohamed Simakan (RB/CB) perhaps with some change left over.}

Ed002 you're probably correct in your assumption that we don't understand the subtleties of FFP, that's left to people who are probably paid handsomely to do the nitty gritty. My take on this is that rules are in place, to stop clubs doing a Bolton, Wigan etc, to ensure that over a 3 year period clubs are only allowed a certain % loss on outgoings, wages, running costs, player fees etc. There's probably a few loopholes, which I'm sure the FA, whoever, are looking into, that means at the moment rules can be bent, rather than broken ie stadium sales, sponsorship.
Regarding the Grealish valuation, as I've mentioned before, he's only worth what someone is willing to pay. Was Maguire worth £80m, not a chance, but that's what Utd paid. If Grealish keeps gaining plaudits and produces high level performances regularly it may start a bidding war between the bigger clubs, all desperate to add him to their ranks. Will bids come in? Undoubtedly. Whether we sell or he wants to go is another discussion altogether, but if we can keep up recent performances and maybe sneak a European place, with the added financial incentive for said competition, we could be in a far stronger position in regards to where he'll be playing next season.

{Ed002's Note - There should not be too many loopholes but clubs do exploit opportunities to claw back what they can - like Aston Villa did when they sold the stadium.}

I think there’s no doubt we will have to brace ourselves for some serious interest in the Summer window, as you suggest. I do wonder if one of the Spanish giants might make a move for him or maybe even Juve.
The problem we will have if he goes, is persuading the quality players you mentioned to join us.
The one saving grace, I think we might have is the players coming through the revamped Academy, hopefully in a year or 4 😂we might have a few more of similar quality.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of interest from overseas and in most cases English players are not sought after by such clubs.

So why is it ridiculous that we think we should get £120 million for Jack but it’s not ridiculous that Dortmund should ask the same for Sancho? I know Ed doesn’t like the comparison but sorry it seems to be the going price for a wide midfielder which is what Jack is seen as and therefore I don’t think the comparison is totally unreasonable. Also Jack’s a more consistent player playing in a more competitive league it may be no one would pay the price that’s fair enough but ultimately market forces will determine what happens. Furthermore clubs are asking top dollar for players who have yet to prove themselves in a competitive European league for example Edouard at Celtic at £40 million yet again no one seems to bat an eyelid at that size of that fee for nothing more than potential but in Jack clubs would be getting one of the best players in the premier league, it’s not as if £120 million would be a record fee either so as I said before I think it’s a win win for us £120 million to re invest or keeping one of the best currently around.

{Ed002's Note - Because it is nothing whatsoever to do with Sancho or Dortmund John. £120M is hardly the "going price for a wide midfield player. You are completely delusional I am afraid.}

Lol tbf English talent has always sold higher than normal pricing so if grealish is worth 80 mil you can expect atleast 100-110 mil and teams like city will pay it because they can't be arsed to bring through their own talent to make up the homegrown players quota. They bought barry because they were lazy they bought milner because the were lazy and they bought the python because they were lazy and theyl attempt to buy the g man but now we are in a position to tell em to sod off 😂.

Interesting point re the stadium sale Ed002 think it was sold for £56m though I could be wrong. If anything I think it was undervalued and done more so to offset our debt at the time. Derby, I think, sold theirs for considerably more.

{Ed002's Note - And Derby got in to a great deal of trouble for it.}

17 Nov 2020 17:31:12
That`s two of us then Ed, I agree with everything John has said.

17 Nov 2020 18:04:38
And we would of too if we hadn't of been promoted. I could be wrong but premier league rules differ from lower leagues somewhat, which I have to say is ridiculous. One rule for all.

{Ed002's Note - The FFP rules differ between the PL and the Fl.

17 Nov 2020 18:12:59
Ed I guess we will see what will happen and you may very well be right if I am honest I don’t want us to sell but the player and the market will decide, however if United go back in for Sancho next summer which from what is being said seems likely then whilst Dortmund may not get the £120 million they are asking for I don’t think they will take less than a £100 million and if Utd pay that then that should be the benchmark we certainly shouldn’t be selling him below the market rate.

{Ed002's Note - Why do you think it relates to Sanchez at all?}

17 Nov 2020 19:15:45
Its the fact that he's english and a talent albeit no where near the sort of class grealish is ascending to so if he goes for 100 mill grealish is worth more simples 💪🏾.

How do clubs determine the fees they ask for players? I assume they don’t pluck figures out of the air they gauge the market and when a player goes for big money fees go up accordingly I also assume that fees will rise based on how much a club want a particular player we fell foul of that when we bought Watkins. Therefore my assumption which I fully accept may be flawed is that if Sancho goes his fee will be the benchmark, and if a club like City want Jack then Villa will try to up the ante and quite rightly so if City think he’s worth it they pay if not then they walk away.

{Ed002's Note - They allocate a value to each player based on the cost of the player to the club and what they think they could achieve in an open market. They don’t base it on the perceived value of Jadon Sancho. Only a handful of players have ever sold for the figures you are suggesting, and no such fee has ever been paid by an English side.}

Get ready for some history to be written 😆.

17 Nov 2020 20:15:21
I've read everybody's take on this and I can see both takes on this. We have to be realistic here Jack cost us nothing except for wages and bonuses so personally 80 million is more of a realistic price and the reason for this is Kevin De Bruyne cost Man C 55 million 5 years ago so with inflation and all that palava I would say that is his price. Look at Chelski and what they have paid for top top players and its let's than Jack's 80 million price tag. But every club has the right to put a price on a player like Dortmund did with Sancho afterall clubs don't want to lose their prize asset for peanuts. Mane 100 million Plus Ed? mmmm that's debatable Kane yes without a shadow of a doubt unless ManU come in for him we could sell him for 200 million and a packet of Park Drive after all they bought Maguire for 80 million just kidding by the way.

17 Nov 2020 20:59:55
You're obviously kidding Daz as smoking is bad for you especially unfiltered fags like Park Drive and Capstan Full Strength 😂😂😂.
