I have been reminiscing today about some of our strikers from the past.
Although we never got to witness and benefit from this mans obvious talent, Luc Nilis has to be the best forward/ striker we have had at Villa Park in the last 50 years.
What a player he was, he had it all, and I have no doubt that if it were not for the cruel injury he suffered, he would have become a real legend and adored by the fans.
He is a legend in my eyes anyway.

Gray, Yorke Dublin, Saunders and Angel to name but a few and whilst I agree that based on his overall record Nilis is up there even though he only had 5 appearances in a Villa shirt his overall play and record merits recognition I am not sure I would call him our best although I guess it depends on the criteria you use to assess the players but for me if I had to choose it would be between Saunders and Angel and if pushed I would probably opt for Angel.

No criteria John, its just my view, and the basis of my theory, is that the man oozed class.
He had everything, the players you have mentioned were great for us agreed, and was a fan of all of them, but class is a a rare trait.
He was also more prolific.
Its only my opinion mate, and welcome the debate.

Alan McInally should be in the mix, I have fond memories of his powerful runs, never shirked a challenge and scored some great goals. I remember thinking at the time he was worth the entrance money just to watch him.

The Gray/ Little period mid to late seventies were a joy to watch with those 2 up top.

Mark’s post re Balaban got me thinking as to who was our worst striker in the last 50 years. As Balaban has gone my vote for our worst striker would be Ormondroyd and that might be down to how ungainly he looked but I could never get over how a man who was so tall could be so poor in the air.
I will always remember being at a game against Man Utd we were behind as usual and a through ball was passed through the centre of the defence leaving Ormondroyd supposedly in the clear the ball got stuck between his feet and the chance was lost. The chap next to me shouted ‘“Ormondroyd you w***** I have seen better legs on Douglas Bader†probably only means something for the older posters on this site but it had the crowd next to me in stitches🤣🤣.

If we want some more recent ones we could add in Jordan Bowery who we should have left in League 1.
Habib Beye wasn't all that bad, just that we've had a good record in that position over the years. Surely Antonio Luna should pip him to the post in that position.

Dave, you mentioning Nilis and how his career was tragically cut short for us, made me start thinking of some of the players we signed at the end of their careers who would of been excellent if we'd had them in their prime, Schmeichel, Pires and Ginola to name just 3. Oh what could of been 🤔.
