I see that in certain quarters but not here as yet, the natives are getting restless and comments like Smith can't take us to the next level are already starting to surface. Unfortunately this is symptomatic of our fan base, and they need to take a bit of a reality check. Firstly our start whilst great was never likely to continue all season and yesterday Southampton had a day like we had against Liverpool in that every time they hit the target they scored and whilst I wouldn't say the performances against Leeds or Southampton were great if we look at where we are as a team compared to this time last season we are in a much stronger position, we have a stronger squad, a quality keeper, a centre forward who works hard and shown himself capable of scoring at this level, and even Matt Targett who I have always had my doubts about has over the last couple of games has been shown himself at least capable so let's keep things in perspective. I agree there is work that needs to be done defensively but despite letting in 7 over the last 2 games I would still argue we are better here than 12 months ago and we are not going to go from relegation candidates to Champions league contenders overnight progression will take time. In terms of Hourihane v McGinn I know McGinn wasn't great yesterday but he was good against Liverpool and Fulham and overall he is a better player than Conor like every other player he isn't going to be a 9 out of 10 every week we just need to bear with him.

John agree regarding Mcginn, however if there are too many 5 out 10, off any players questions need to asked and addressed.

Who were yesterday’s 5 out of 10s?

Yes Villa John. Its always the same old sh*t with Villa fans, and football fans in general. Win 2 games, get overexcited, lose 2 games and we're the worst team in the world and Smith should go. I believe in long term managerial appointments and Smith is absolutely the right man for the job. I'd love to see Mourinho try to manage a team that ISN'T a guaranteed champions league team for example. Then we'd get to see how good he really is. Smith has done well at Brentford and now Villa (not sure how he did at Walsall? ) but it's like you have to manage one of the top 6 clubs for anyone to take you seriously and it's stupid.

Said the same about our fan base for years, quality in numbers but in terms of actual support it doesn’t match the quantity. We have our moments, reading away a few years ago, Jordan Ayew last minute pen was one of the best moments as a fan base for the last probably decade. But for every one of them there are 10 where large portions of the fan base is just fickle, toxic and embarrassing.
