I did not see todays game but when we concede 4 goals after 3 last week then in simple terms we have a crap defence. Sorry to be totally blunt but that's what we had last season,
Konsa and Mings need someone to tie them together.
We have not had a leader at the back since Terry went of to retire.
First thing in January Deano should find an Iron man who will be strong and not back out. Someone who will own the ball in the box.
I don't study the available players but somewhere there is such a player.
Play Konsa on the right, whoever? in the middle and Mings on the left.
This would give us an old fashioned, but now new, 3 at the back.
Our two flying wing backs would operate as they do at the moment but have someone behind them.
This then maakes 5 across the middle and a choice of any 3 running the front line.
Deano must sort this problem or it will be goodbye.

It wasn’t as bad as all that old villian, they had 4 shots on target and scored 4 goals they didn’t run us ragged like Leeds last week we were very unlucky not to come away with at least a draw, their keeper made some great saves second half he kept them in it, we didn’t concede to many chances just those 2 free kicks killed us and we didn’t need to give them away not with WARD P on the pitch to bang them in. trez is better than traore imo he was unlucky today, hope traore not injured badly but he’s not going to do great things in the premier league I’d go as far as saying we paid double what he’s worth we should of went all out to get benerahma.

I think you have summed up today`s game very well Whacky, spot on mate, but I have to disagree about Traore.
He cannot be rated on his performances to date, and needs some play time to sort his game.
Personally I think he will be far more productive that Trez, without the reckless and fouling approach.
I do Like Trez and he works very hard for the team, but he does need to calm down, he is like a spring, and reminds me of my son at 10 yrs old running after the ball as if it was full of sweets.

Bang on whatattack! Pointless fouls to give away when both times the Saints player was running into bodies, just makes you question their intelligence, Luis had a complete mare today.

Don’t know how you can attempt to breakdown a performance, our downfalls or what we need when you start a post with “I did not see todays game”. Just completely wiped out everything follows of any credibility.

You say Luiz had a complete mare today Chris and yet I’ve just read Stuart Young’s ( A Villa fan ) player ratings . He gave Luiz a 7 and suggested that he was back to his best.
Personally I wonder which game he was watching, but it does go to show how differently we all interpret performances.

The first half performance today was extremely poor in terms of attitude and commitment - We were at 15% and that's the most frustrating thing! Southampton had 4 shots on target and scored all 4, that won't happen every week but if we turn up like we did in the first half against Arsenal we will be in massive trouble. Second half performance was much better, we need to take that performance in the Arsenal game. At the end of the day, if you'd offered me 4 wins from 6 at the start of the season, 11 points from the drop, I'd have bitten your hand off for it but today is as disappointing as we caused them a lot of problems when we decided to turn up and it seems like a missed opportunity!

Can’t believe that Mark, he looked like a lost puppy. Absolutely rasping in passes to people 8 yards away, always trying to over complicate things, running into bodies and losing the ball. Thought him and McGinn were awful, I’d be dropping one for Hourihane next game personally.

I agree Chris, and if Luiz continues to perform like that there’s one thing for sure, Man City won’t come knocking on the door.

Some pretty wild accusations there the old Villain! Our defence has been excellent this season. 3 of southampton's goals were unstoppable strikes and they only had 4 shots on target. Liverpool conceded 7 in just the one game but their defence certainly isn't crap either. Do you not see Mings as a leader in defence? He is very vocal and clearly a good defender.

Lol I won’t tar and feather traore yet Dave let’s see how he is by Xmas he just looks awkward to me and I don’t see much of a creative streak in him he’d rather pass backwards or sideways than take on a defender but maybe he’s still a little nervous he will get a chance to prove himself, I know what you mean about trez but he’s gets goals and I thought he was 1 of our better players yesterday he was in the right places and unlucky with his chances his diving header and his volleys were all very sweetly struck. the big thing for me was the fight back and we scored 3 goals in 36 mins against a team that’s doing well this year, imagine how glum we’d all feel if it had finished 4 nil or worse, onwards and upwards arsenal have talent but they are beatable💪💪.
