Sounds good value doesn’t it, until you consider his 15 million a year salary.

How much do you know about clement Grenier from Rennes ( markdavfrance ) another new name we are linked with?

He’s heading for 30 I can’t see this 1 happening not for a winger, I’d rather have snodgrass.

I remember him better when he played for Lyon Smithy.
He adds technical ability and stability to the midfield, he certainly doesn’t give the ball away cheaply that’s for sure. There’s no doubt he would be a useful player to have, especially with the experience he has. There’s been several discussions about game management on this site.
The feeling was that we threw a lot of points away last season because we lacked that. I think Grenier could help solve that problem, he comes across as an intelligent player and would I think help a lot when it comes to closing games out. If he could be acquired for a modest fee, I would say he’s definitely worth considering.

How does he compare to Swift Mark?

To be honest Dave, I haven’t seen a great deal of Swift mate, so I can’t really draw a comparison. What I forgot to say about Grenier is he gets his fair share of goals and is very good with free kicks. I wouldn’t compare him with Hourihane though, he gets far more involved in games than Conor does and is technically superior.
When he played for Lyon, I always thought he was one of their more consistent players.
However he is 29 now and Swift is 4 years younger, but if you’re looking for some quality experience Grenier would fit the bill I think.

Great insight into Grenier, cheers. Last year of his contract, turns 30 this season. could be a solid and economic option, then?

Does he have good energy levels? We need a proper box-to-box number 8 I think, and upgrade from Hourihane’s more limited all round game (tho he did well those last few games to be fair).

Consistency is key, so it’s good you identify that as a strength. And set pieces! Our new 8 and/ or one of the wingers/ forwards needs to be a dead-ball specialist as with Jack that represents a really effective tactic for us.
