The links to Swift have gone very quiet, but I’d like to see us bring him in for depth in midfield. Think he’d cost more like £8m though. We were also linked with McCarthy at Palace before, who’s another solid and inexpensive option.
In goal. Butland has been woeful for two years. Really poor. How quickly could his confidence be rebuilt and get his form back? Romero is the one for me, for the same money albeit he’s older.
Looking at Chelsea’s bloated squad, there must be players there we could target? They’ve got Loftus-Cheek as you say, or Barkley be an option? We should be pushing to get Tammy back too, it Edouard as a main striker, and play Watkins off the flank initially.

Just an idea for you lads.
Forget the idea of spending 45 million on 2 strikers and spend it on one. Celtic want 45 million for Edouard, let’s snap him up. We still have Wesley, Samatta, Davis and Barry ( potentially), to provide sufficient back up.
This would still allow sufficient funds to bring in Benrahma, Swift and a replacement goalkeeper in the form of Romero, Butland, Foster or somebody else.
If 100 million is truly the budget this is doable.

I think we can get Edouard for less than £45m. I think A little over £30m (plus significant add-ons) would do it. Celtic are out of the champions league, and that’d be £10m more than they got for Dembele. Bigger issue will be whether he’d come to us, sounds like he has loftier ambitions.

Ant, I would have thought if he was available at that price, he would have already left Celtic.
I think he would come to Villa if the salary was attractive enough.

I am not sure Edouard will come even if we come up with the cash his agent will know other premiership sides are interested Leicester for one and if we are honest they are currently a more attractive option than us, and similarly with Ollie Watkins he has an established working relationship with Brendan Rogers who signed him at Celtic. I think if we don’t get Watkins over the line then it will be another foreign signing or someone on loan. I read somewhere we were being linked with Moussa Marega again.
