I think irrespective of what’s said, whether Jack’s at Man Utd or not won’t make any difference I don’t think the current England regime rate him, despite protestations to the contrary I think they see him more as an individual talent more than a team player which is why they won’t pick him. Re the drink driving charge hanging over him why should that be a reason not to pick him, when attempted bribery of a police officer (allegedly) incurs no penalty? Finally does anyone think Winks or Ward Prowse are better midfielders than Jack? The whole thing stinks and what makes it even worse is it’s an ex Villa man whose responsible.

But no one did get sacked Dave, and if that is the case then Southgate should have the decency to admit it and not build the player up when he has no intentions of playing him. Everyone is entitled to make a mistake or two and let’s not forget Mr Southgate was investigated for tax avoidance not too long ago so he isn’t the paragon of virtue the press paint him to be. If Jack wants to play international football sadly I think he will have to declare for the Republic of Ireland.

Dave I wasn’t trying to make grealish’s misdemeanours any less by mentioning someone else’s, or saying two wrongs make a right as you said. Just putting to bed the off field antics thing holding him back, quite literally can’t be when other members of the squad are brought into question. Do I think he was drunk or had drink in him - yes. Why else would he run? But I was just pointing out he didn’t have a charge for that.

I am fast losing whatever respect I had for Gareth Southgate, no consistency in terms of how selection are made ie needing premier league experience and then picking someone who doesn’t have any, and then before speaking to the press he says he won’t take questions re Jack, that’s very poor on two counts firstly it strikes me he isn’t confident that this rationale is sufficiently backed by evidence ie the stats and secondly it’s really weak leadership a good leader should be able to tell it as it is even if it’s as simple as I don’t rate the player. As Chris has said previously a cowardly response from the England manager.
