That's the difference between a top manager and Dean Smith, same tactics when winning, same tactics when losing, same tactics when trying to keep a lead and same tactics when chasing a win!

Ancelloti made tactical changes, granted with better players, and changed the game! Smith was a deer in the headlights! Typical!

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to agree with you BK, that is what annoys me with Deano, Ok yes I did support him initially, but he has proved nothing to me.

Look the recruitment has been poor, he can't really be blamed for that. At least not entirely. But I just feel his lack of ideas and total unwillingness to make changes has cost is this season.21 points dropped from winning positions is totally unforgivable, demonstrates his inability to see out games. Yes, players need to take responsibility, but the buck stops with Smith inevitably, we need a change of manager now. I don't think relegation is the death sentence it was previously, we have a good young team that may benefit from a season in the second tier.

Think your showing a bit of lack of knowledge here BK in the nicest way possible, first 15/ 20 minutes Everton was the better team and were breaking down the middle far to easily, working it out wide and overloading is with crosses. Following the drinks break our shape completely changed, you could see it coming with the way smith and O’kelly went to individual players and were speaking in depth at the time. From that McGinn switched to a 10 right behind Samatta and we began to take control, that followed in the second half and we were getting decent chances, grealish putting two wide, Samatta blasting a header over and McGinn doing the same inside the 6 yard box. Then we got the goal. From there ancelloti had to do something, he didn’t change system he went man for man, fresh legs. To begin with it didn’t help, we still had a few chances then the big one came with El Ghazi, Smith had gone man for man aswell, as why would you change a system that’s working, in that we were getting chances and pushing for a second? Unfortunately we didn’t take our chances and late on one of their crosses brought the equaliser, more down to Targetts marking more than anything else, you can’t plan for that. So saying ancelloti changed the game and that’s the difference, is a bit inept, been as Smith changing tactics without having to sub is what got us the lead and kept us competitive in the first place.

Smith can’t do right from doing wrong at the minute, look at the players individually, a large majority are barely top end championship players, Trezeguet have the ball away four times in a row yesterday, El Ghazis miss, Samatta in general, the fact we are in with a chance, no matter how small, with these players, is a minor miracle. Unfortunately this won’t be seen until Smith is long gone and the next bloke has got us fighting relegation with these players, this time in the championship, then maybe the penny may drop with some.
