While I agree we are still in with a shout, and that possibility is simply there because the numbers are still possible, to achieve.
One statistic that I think is important in our run in is the Arsenal game, this is not a roll over game for Arsenal, they can still get 59pts, and will try and finish as high as they can.
last 13 games v Arsenal, W 1, D 1, L 11, goals F 10, goals A 34 = 4pt
last 38 games v Arsenal, W 3, D 9, L 26, goals F 30, goals A 79 = 18pt
I think that those stats are frightening enough on their own.
So personally I think we are down, and will be glad when it is all over to be honest.

Bloody hell Dave those figures are somewhat stark! We live in hope but fear the worst.

Dave I just love your stats 👍.

As with United we have a habit of playing against the history and expectations of Arsenal rather than the team on the pitch but play like we did in the first half the last time we played them but for 90 minutes then we have a chance.
I don't have high expectations for that game but anything can happen. It could also be that getting the 6 points from the other 2 games ends up being just enough if one of West Ham or Watford can't drum up more than 2 points.
There are still enough possibilities for there to be something to hang onto. We're not 100% at straw clutching territory yet.

Problem with stats like that is, they aren’t representative of this season or either of the two sides, baring obviously the last game. How many players from the arsenal sides them stats are based from are still there? Same with the Villa players, how many managers have come in that time? Even owners? You could check our record back to the 1950’s and it might even things up, doesn’t count for a fat lot though.

Point about them having something to play for is very relevant however, whilst they’ve still got the chance of finishing in European places they will be at full pace, even without the chance of Europe a lot of them are playing for their futures under Arteta, so whatever the case, it won’t be an on the beach already job. Still, live in hope and fight till the end, as we expect the players to.

Chris, stats are there because they have happened mate.
Most things in life are modeled on stats, and in the main stats will give excellent guidance to the chances of it happening again.
You can look at it any way you like, but Scientists, Doctors, any organisation will take into account statistics, when planning.
Look I hope the stats go out the window mate, and we stuff Arsenal.
I am just showing our record against them over 21 years.

15 Jul 2020 18:28:13
I was just pointing out that a result 21 years ago bares no relevance to a result today.

15 Jul 2020 20:20:22
That`s just it chris it does, that is why statistics are used.
21 years ago is a point of data, and it might be opposite to what you are looking for, but collectively it is significant in the make up of a static.
I use stats every day, if I ignored them I would have problems.
They are not guaranteed for sure, nothing is, and you can fall on your face, but they are very good pointers, and are usually close.
Chris, I admire your reasoning about this, but you are way short on facts about statistics, no offence meant.

{Ed001's Note - stats analysis requires thousands of points of data to rule out anomalies, that is why it is very difficult to use in football.}

Agreed Ed, but football traders use stats everyday.

{Ed001's Note - and that is why they get it wrong so often. Even a club like Brentford, who are owned by a man who owns a stats analysis company and bought the club (and Midtyjlland in Denmark) in part to prove that stats analysis is relevant in football, only use stats to identify players to scout. Stats on their own are impossible to use as there are just not enough data points. Teams are not playing enough games a season for there to be relevant data as the squads change from game to game, as well as season to season.}

Dave, Nyland in goal? interesting. I'd love to get a look at Barry but can't see it happening.

16 Jul 2020 15:10:28
No I can`t either SV, would be great though, and very interesting.

16 Jul 2020 15:28:58
Ed stats are used as a guide, not as a defining factor, and are used day in day out by all sorts of organisations, the world would fail without stats being used.
Football is a bit up and down agreed, but I use stats, and I have friends who use stats.
Ed, Stats are made up of several factors, mainly the the averages which are Mode, Median, and Mean, those are the three components used in football statistics.
The stats point to Arsenal winning at VP, and I would say that will be the case, the Mode factor of statistics are prominent in this case.

{Ed001's Note - none of it matters without context. Most football stats are used without context, like a result from 21 years ago which bears no relation to now.}

Ok that`s fine mate, better if we leave as it is, call it a draw.
