One team took their chances, the other didn't. Both goals Taylor completely lost Mane for the first, and then Salah for the second, criminal defending, lost concentration for a split second on both occasions and was punished, that's what happens at the top level.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2020 18:38:43
Maybe he could have done better but expecting him to do everything is harsh. Taylor stopped several chances before that and both of those goals should have been stopped much earlier.
Reina should never have tried that lofted throw to Grealish leading to the free kick, there was no counter advantage to be gained.
Smith's major issue for me is his subs. It was difficult to drag someone off with how we performed for 60 minutes but as soon as they brought on the ringers we needed to do something.

05 Jul 2020 18:52:25
The commitment and fight was better than it usually is, and they created a reasonable of chances. Against arguably the best team in Europe, I thought they competed well.
We’re only one point off 17th place, so there’s still hope.

05 Jul 2020 19:05:38
That was a much better performance all round, but.
If you could not see that result coming, you are missing the big picture.
You could see the pattern of play taking that same familiar shape,
punt up, back it came.
To be honest, and no punches pulled, we don`t deserve to stay up, how many times do we want other results to go our way.
We have had chance, after chance, after chance, not good enough.

05 Jul 2020 19:16:58
You can't play open expansive football against Liverpool, it's suicide.
We did everything but finish our chances in the first half, the support up front was exemplary. Even the start of the second half we overloaded their defence but we're wasteful.
Our problem was that we did not replace tired players sooner. Grealish was playing half injured and still had a chance.
If we could have thrown the likes of Lansbury, Hourihane, Elmo and Samatta on around 65-70 minutes we could have had a chance.

05 Jul 2020 19:19:46
Weak team, weak substitutes, Liverpool tired us out then put quality on and we got Jota, says it all. We got what we deserved just as we have all season. How any here can see any positives is beyond me. Dave is right we do not deserve to stay up.

05 Jul 2020 19:37:54
Lots of positives to take, can’t throw the towel in when we’re one point adrift with 5 games to play, that would be cowardly.

When was the last time Liverpool lost at home? We were always going to be on the back foot, the tactics were spot on, we had 3 or 4 brilliant breaks where we out numbered them, we just didn’t take them, the better team won on the day, simple as that.

Talks of “we don’t deserve to stay up” is just self loathing, whoever finishes outside the bottom three deserves to stay up, and whilst we still have a chance to do that, support the team. Last time we were relegated Lescott said it was a weight of their shoulders, and he was crucified, but it seems like some have adopted that attitude already.

We were much better today we just were up against the best in the world. We have been more solid since the lock down, Played 4 games in which we have played 2 top 4 teams, one being the best in the world, And then another team fighting for European places. Let’s just not have the meltdown, for once.

05 Jul 2020 19:57:54
It’s always the same no improvement we are ok until the 70 mins+ Tottenham both Home and away arsenal the same we have had more than enough chances against these teams. I don’t want to stay up by the skin of my teeth as we did that for seasons before we went down. Go down rebuild the whole club. Some fresh English players would be a good start.

05 Jul 2020 20:01:03
We were much better Chris and I find it hard to believe that anybody thought we would get anything from this game, given the quality of their players compared to ours. Look at the table guys, how many points have Liverpool dropped this season.
Yet for 70 minutes Liverpool didn’t look like scoring, and we probably had the better chances to take the lead.
How often this season has our defense looked vulnerable from the off this season? Yet today we did actually look reasonably comfortable against the best there is.
So I think there were positives to take from this game and if they continue to play like that we could just survive, why not? Watford and Bournemouth don’t look any better than us.
Other positives were the performances of Luiz and McGinn, who played his best game since his return and Mings was an absolute rock at the back.
So come on guys, get behind your team. UTV.

05 Jul 2020 20:03:08
Chris, I will support my team through thick and thin mate, and self loathing is a dislike of oneself, so that`s off the mark a bit mate.
With all the chances of putting points between us, and failing to take them is not good enough, and that is my reason for saying we don`t deserve to stay up.
I like to say things as I honestly see them, that does not make you a bad supporter, I tell the truth, I was brought up that way.

05 Jul 2020 20:35:35
Never would even hint your a bad supporter Dave, you should know that. It’s not the truth though, it’s your opinion, and fair play for sticking to it.

05 Jul 2020 20:58:13
Sorry chris, not being pedantic mate, but we have failed to take the chance to close the gap, when other teams have lost.
That`s the truth is it not?
That`s what I am saying, its not an opinion, it happened.

05 Jul 2020 21:08:40
Chris, Truth, Opinion, Facts, look at the table, what else is there to judge. I go for facts look at the league table.

05 Jul 2020 21:31:56
Still 5 games to go though Scotty, I’ll take 17th at the end mate, wouldn’t you?
Despite the defeat, which let’s face it was expected, I saw a glimmer of hope today, fighting spirit and togetherness, qualities we’ve been lacking for most of the season.

05 Jul 2020 21:52:42
Hi Mark, I like your optimism mate, and 17th would be brilliant.
Today granted was a far better overall performance, and yet we failed to score again, we have to be realistic Mark, try this.
Out of our remaining 5 fixtures who do you really see us beating, don`t` let your heart rule your judgement.
Nobody has answered this question yet.

05 Jul 2020 22:16:07
Palace, Everton and Arsenal don’t really have a lot to play for and I think West Ham will be safe by the time we get to play them.
If we show the same level of fight and togetherness those games are winnable.
Yes, they need to start taking their chances but I think the goals will come. I also think Deano should give Louie Barry a chance if Davis and Samatta can’t find the back of the net maybe he could, well worth a try I think. He’s scored goals at every level he’s played at who’s to say he can’t do it at this level. Deano won’t know for sure until he gives him a chance.

05 Jul 2020 22:30:43
Your right Dave, we keep missing the chances to close the distance, that wasn’t what I was disputing. “We don’t deserve to stay up” is an opinion though, not a fact, that can’t be determined at this point in the season when we are 1 point a drift from equally hopeless teams with 5 games to play. Do I think we’ll stay up? No, to be honest, do I think we still have a chance, yes, it isn’t over till the fat lady sings, stranger things have happened.

05 Jul 2020 22:31:37
I see your thinking Mark, the problem with that is teams don`t let you win just because they have nothing to play for.
So you honestly think we are going to win 4 games out of the five.
Ok hope you are right, now is that your head or heart Mark.
We have been banging on about Barry for a few weeks now, its not going to happen until all is lost mate.

05 Jul 2020 22:44:51
No Dave, they won’t just let us win, but you would think teams in those mid-table positions would have one eye on finishing the season intact and therefore starting next season fully fit. Why risk playing with maximum intensity for nothing.
By contrast we have everything to play for and today the players showed what I was hoping to see before now, FIGHT and it may, or it may not make all the difference, let’s hope it’s the former.

05 Jul 2020 22:53:35
Come on guys get real, ten consecutive games without a win, are you really expecting a couple of wins out of the remaining five games. Let's just look at facts.

05 Jul 2020 23:06:31
Ok Mark, fingers crossed mate, a point would of been nice today.
